CH.473 Second Prototype Skill and New Races
CH.473 Second Prototype Skill and New Races
“Okay kid.” Coby began.
“Can you not call me a kid, please. I know I’m young compared to immortal System agents, but still.”
“Don’t be like that, kid. Until you beat or at least match me in a fight, I’ll call you a kid.”
“... we’ve never had a match, I might win.” I pointed out. “And if my monsters are allowed, I’ll destroy you.”
“Fist fight is the only real fight.”
“Says the multi-armed bear man with giant claws.”
“Fine. Call it a brawl then.”
“Was your master a brawler?” I asked, mostly out of curiosity.
“He was. Evolved three times during his life. Ended his life as a Multi-Armed Berserker Black-Bear-folk.”
“Berserker? An upgraded form of Brawler I assume?”
“Yeah. Don’t be surprised if your slave evolves into one. I wouldn’t be.”
“... I feel like Ria won’t, but that might be just me. Like, I know there is a chance, but … she isn’t like she used to be. Her fighting style is a bit too strategic for a berserker nowadays.”
“Not everyone of you will have a unique race.”
“Is that a challenge, because I’ll find a way.”
“I would say don’t because it is more work for us, but I don’t deal with that garbage, so I don’t care.”
“... sorry. But still. Is it really my fault? At least I’m evolving the System.”
“Yeah, you are.” Coby agreed. “But back to business. The second prototype skill is ready. Should be in your status now.”
I quickly checked my status and spotted Mana Coated Body Modification in the unique skill tab. Like Magical Arms, it was classified as a prototype skill and its level was N/A.
“Still don’t like the name.” I said mostly to myself. While yes it does describe what the skill does, the name is just kind of long. Sure it isn’t that much longer than Vampiric Body Modification, the skill I largely used as the base, but for some reason, I just prefer one over the other.
“I already told you, just come up with a better one and we’ll change it.” Coby said, before we both left the Factory.
I then headed straight for one of the training rooms to test out the prototype skill. My goal with it was simple, emulate as many of my racial skills as I can.
I started off with something simple, Hardened Scales. For it, I first formed a coating of mana around my body, which was quite easy because of the skill, before I then turned that coating into scales. I then tested the durability of the scales, confirming that they were indeed boosted by Hardened Scales.
Next were Tough Claws and Rending Claws. For them, all I needed to do was form claws of some kind, and because this is me, you know I had to make myself Wolverine style claws.
But the claws were also where I ran into the first problem. While Tough Claws worked with them just fine, Rending Claws didn’t. I think that might be because Rending Claws relies on coating the claws in mana to form a Mana Blade on them, but since my Mana Coated Body Modification claws are already made of mana, there was some issue with it and I couldn’t actually form a Mana Blade on the claws.
I’ll be sure to record and report that little issue.
Next came the skill that kind of started this entire process, Swift Swimming. And it worked perfectly well with the mer-folk tail I formed with Mana Coated Body Modification.
The last of my racial skill I tested was actually Multi-Armed. I know it might be a bit redundant with Magical Arms, but I wanted to see if it would work. And the answer is yes. I could form myself an extra pair of arms with Mana Coated Body Modification, but they were more limited than the arms I could make with Magical Arms, mainly because I couldn’t actually detach them from my body.
But still good to know that it can be done.
Then it was time to move onto racial skills I don’t have. Starting off with Winged Flight. I used Mana Coated Body Modification to form myself a pair of wings and tried to fly with them, using what Lua and Ria have told me about Winged Flight as a base.
Sadly I failed, but I do think you could do it, if you trained more with Winged Flight, so I think the integration is correct, I just suck.
I then tried focusing Mana Coated Body Modification around my eyes and ears, in attempts of getting/emulating some sort of vision or hearing enhancing racial skill, but that didn’t seem to do anything. I just ended up activating Mana Vision by accident.
I then tried something else, which was forming a pair of bunny ears on the top of my head with Mana Coated Body Modification, and tried to listen with them, and that felt a lot more correct. And because of that correct feeling, I decided to go a step further and coated some other areas of my body, adding a small little rabbit tail and changing my feet to be more akin to those of rabbit-folk.
And as I did so, I heard a little ding and a System screen popped up.
New race: Rabbit-folk unlocked in One of Every Race. |
New skill: Enhanced Hearing, unlocked. |
So yeah. Because I was emulating a rabbit-folk, I accidentally unlocked it and it came with a new racial skill.
But I wasn’t quite happy yet. If I can get Enhanced Hearing, surely I can get some sort of enhanced jumping skill as well. I mean, what are rabbits known for? Hearing well or jumping well?
I tried jumping around with my Mana Coated Body Modification rabbit feet, but it didn’t seem to do anything, so either my rabbit feet are wrong, or the enhanced jumping skill is rabbit-kin limited, and since I got the rabbit-folk variant, I can’t get that skill. Or maybe I just need more time. I'll play around as a Rabbit-folk later to see if I can get something else.
I then got one more dumb idea, and returned back to working on Winged Flight. I think I did it wrong earlier, because I made a new set of wings on my back. I don’t think I should have done that.
Instead, what I should do is coat my existing arms in mana, turning them into wings, like what the Bird-folk have. Basically, I was trying to turn myself into a harpie. Well, harpies of this world are evolved Bird-folk, so not quite, but you get the point.
With my arms now wings, I again attempted to use them to fly, and this time, it worked out somewhat better. My flight was still unsteady as anything, like a newborn bird learning to fly, but I did manage to catch some air under my artificial wings.
And because of that, I got a nice reward.
New race: Bird-folk unlocked in One of Every Race. |
New skill: Winged Flight, unlocked. |
Yeah. I think with that I can definitely confirm that Mana Coated Body Modification is working as advertised. This skill is fricking broken and I love it.
I then quickly tested out my two new races, just to get a feel for them. Also so that I could get a feel how they both interact with Multi-Armed.
Multi-Armed and Rabbit-folk really didn’t do anything crazy, but Bird-folk and Multi-Armed did. As Bird-folk, my arms are wings, so growing another pair of arms gave me another pair of wings. With the extra wings, I can probably fly faster, do tighter turns and so on. I just need to get used to the skill.

I guess I should mention a few things about my status. Naturally I got the three new skill already mentioned, but as you may have noticed, I got Sword Master! Been waiting for that skill for so long. It is the racial skill of the Swordsman class race. I just got it yesterday, after sword practice.
Also, new title. The Sky isn’t the Limit is a title given to someone who has at least two Flight skills. I now have Mana Flight and Winged Flight, so I got the skill. It just improves the mana efficiency of all Flight skills a bit, and allows for easier simultaneous use of all of your Flight skills for faster flying speeds.
I naturally showed the girls my new races. Lua was somewhat of a fan of Bird-folk, mainly because I had wings. Alice also liked it because l reminded Mana of Horus. Alice also liked my rabbit-folk form, because I was, and I quote ‘cute’. I personally think my cat-folk self is cuter, but whatever.
… sadly not all was good, because I swear to the Goddess, when Unika saw me in my Rabbit-folk form, she looked like she was ready to chase me down. It honestly sent some shivers down my back.
I’ll probably have to avoid that race when around her, before she actually thinks I’m prey.
After the show and tell, I had one more test I wanted to run. This time with a spirit, and specifically Pan.
She was happy to see that I was ‘embracing’ my bestial side, but what I actually wanted to see was what happens when she Synchroes with me when I’m a Beast-folk, other than Cat-folk.
Because if you remember, when Pan first Synchroed with me, I ended up unlocking the Cat-folk race. So if Pan’s Synchro is usually shown by cat-ears and a tail, if I already have rabbit-ears, a tail and rabbit-like feet, will I become some sort of cat-rabbit hybrid.
Sadly, or maybe it is a good thing, the answer was no. During the Synchro, my rabbit features just became a bit more pronounced. My ears grew a bit longer, my tail got bigger and puffier and my legs grew a bit longer, and the soles became a bit larger.
So yeah. Sadly no cheaty combined races. At least not yet. Maybe I can get some as I level up the racial skills.
