Chapter 677: How To Deal With Giant Slimes
Oh god… There's even more of them now… And that giant blob is still slowly meandering towards us.
Ok girls, I think all of you should stop holding back. Just go ahead and start smashing them up.
Eins immediately buffed Shadow Odeta with [Strength], prompting her to smash her fist into the closest monster that was reaching towards her.
The punch generated a shockwave that blew away the monsters that were also close to the one she punched as well.
That gave us a bit of space for now so I got Shadow Katsuki to leap over the horde and attack the giant blob directly.
Her leap brought her sailing over the blob and she slashed her daggers out, leaving two slashes across the surface of the blob.
It was nothing more than a flesh wound on the blob and the wounds quickly closed up without even leaving a mark.
Seeing that it at least left a mark, it meant the blob wasn't immune to physical damage like how it shrugged off the magic spells.
But I don't think I could just kill it by slicing it over and over again since it was healing from the wounds almost instantly.
Hmm… Maybe it's immune to specific elements?
I then directed Shadow Katsuki to use [Fire Blast] on it while she was hanging on the ceiling.
The gout of flames bathed the giant blob but the fire barely did anything to it, though it did burn a few of the monsters near the blob.
But aside from that, there wasn't any effect on the giant blob.
How are we supposed to deal with this?
Wait… They're basically slimes right? So they should have a slime core in the centre right?
I narrowed my eyes at the blob and…. Oh, there it is! There's a small marble floating in the centre of the blob that must be its core! That means if I can destroy that, the monster should be defeated too!
But… Err… How do we cut through like… I'm guessing about five feet or more than a hundred and fifty centimetres of slime to reach that core?
I had Shadow Delmare conjure a bow made out of shadows before shooting it at the slime.
The arrow flew through the air and pierced about two inches into the slime before stopping, staying stuck in the gelatinous body of the giant blob.
The arrow that had been stuck in the giant slime melted away and the shaft plopped onto the ground.
Should have known that they had acidic bodies…
Alright… I need something that can pierce through the thick slime body and also survive long enough in the acid to reach the slime core.
My first thought was to use [Laser] on the slime but this thing seemed to be immune to magic attacks. It was like there was some kind of protective layer over its surface that dispels magic away.
Physical strikes would leave a mark on the slime but they would be able to rapidly heal from it but at least it had an effect on them.
So I need a strong enough physical attack that can get through all of that while fending off the horde of other slime monsters and also not letting the giant blob consume us.
…
What the crap can I do?
I guess I can use Hiandoca's escape marble thingy to get out of here but it feels rather lame to use it right after I got it.
There's also the possibility that the goddess gave me this exact thing knowing that I would find myself in this position in the first place and intended for me to make use of it to escape…
But it's not like I was truly backed up against the wall since I do have ways to deal with it if I really wanted to.
For example… I could just have one of my Shadow Guards jump in it and get the others to buff her until she explodes, which would definitely destroy its core from that.
So… Oh wait! I got it! Why didn't I think of that?!
I just need to have something pierce through it and then set off a big enough explosion to destroy the slime core!
I pulled out my Pack of Folding and dug through it until I found the satchel that held my Mana Crystals.
I then handed it over to Shadow Delmare who tied it right behind the arrowhead before channelling her mana into the stone itself.
I already knew roughly how much mana was needed so I had her stop when I felt the stone start to shake a little and had her pull back on the bow.
Eins then took over channelling the mana while the others focused on keeping the horde of zombie-slime monsters away.
I watched as the arrow was released and it penetrated the blob the same way the first arrow had, though this time sinking a little deeper because of the weight.
Then, right as the arrowhead started dissolving, there was an explosion from the Mana Crystal that blew off a significant chunk of the giant slime.
Unfortunately, the blast radius just fell short of the slime core, leaving it unharmed.
The slime wobbled and tried to reform itself to protect its core, only for Shadow Katsuki to drop down from the ceiling and propel herself towards the still vulnerable slime core with a [Fire Blast] fired behind her.
Her daggers slashed out and sliced into the slime core, splitting it into two before the slime could fully wrap itself around it.
There was the sound of glass shattering and the pole that the slime monster had been dancing on earlier before it transformed suddenly shattered into pieces.
The blob then started stretching and squeezing on itself before it lost its consistency and melted into a puddle on the floor.
The moment that happened, a number of the zombie-slimes also melted into puddles.
I'm assuming those monsters that melted away were those that were summoned by this one that Shadow Katsuki just killed.
Oh, that's nice. At least we know that by killing the main summoner, the summons would also be killed.
But seeing that the stripper poles also shattered when the big slime died… Could they be somehow linked?
There were five other monsters still dancing on the poles and I also just noticed that there were also four empty ones for some reason.
Oh wait… Was that the actual way that we were supposed to get through this trap? Where a few members of a party would have to also start dancing on the poles to create their own summons just to fight against the slime horde?
…
Should I try?
Ok before that… I want to try out another hypothesis.
I gave a mental command to Shadow Katsuki and she leapt towards another of the slime monsters that was currently doing a spin around the pole.
She slashed her daggers at the pole in an attempt to cut it into two while ignoring the woman still dancing on it.
Not gonna lie, I was expecting the pole to be indestructible and for that strike to be deflected. So imagine my surprise when the blow actually cut through the pole which somehow caused it to shatter into pieces.
The monster fell onto the ground after the pole shattered, looking quite confused when she realised she had fallen on her butt.
She was even looking around for a good few seconds before finally standing up on her feet.
I thought she might even attack Shadow Katsuki who I had instructed to remain there to see what she would do or even just transform into a giant blob like the first one.
She did neither of those and went towards one of the empty poles and started to dance on it instead.
Somehow… This kind of felt like some NPC character going through its programming routines before they manage to path find their way to their next task.
Now I'm quite convinced that Tyler was the one who came up with a trap like this and either the demoness or Hiandoca just left it as it is.
When I instructed Katsuki to deal with the monster herself, she used her dagger to stab into the monster's chest, right at where her heart should have been since I was assuming that would be where her core was.
The monster let out a scream and her face contorted before shifting like liquid was melting off her face, right before she collapsed into a puddle on the ground.
Well… That was easy…
I'll just need Shadow Katsuki to do the same to the remaining four monsters and we should be set.
Just as I thought of that, two of the four remaining dancers suddenly jumped off the stage and voluntarily transformed themselves into the giant blob version of themselves.
Even after they formed into the giant blobs, they were not finished as they then merged together into a single giant blob but with two slime cores that seemed to keep shifting around inside their bodies.
Great… So it seemed like Tyler had implemented a phase two in this boss fight as well…
This is so annoying…
