The Devil's Sweetheart

Million feelings, thousand thoughts, infinite memories of hers he holds dear to my heart. If my lifetime grievance brings her back to life, I am willing to sacrifice my memories. ''I am willing to pay any price. Please treat her fast.''

''What about my price?'' 

''I have nothing to offer except for wealth.''

''You have one.'' Morvena lifted my hands and held them together. ''I confessed my feelings twice, and you rejected twice for her. I understood you would never look at me in this lifetime. If you can't give me your love, give me one passionate night. I will hold on to the fact that I had sex with the most handsome eligible man.''

''Are you..are you testing me?'' I yanked my hands forcefully with a look of disgust. The thought of touching some other woman sickened my body. 

''I am an opportunist, Devin. I don't care if you think of me as a bitch. That's the craze I have for you.'' Morvena got up to leave. ''Tell me your answer after coming to a decision.'' Not before she walked a couple of steps, she felt his touch on her wrists. ''Will you treat her if I say yes?''

''Ofcourse_'' Morvena didnot yet complete her thoughts, she was dragged to her room. She has to run alongside Devin to match his pace. ''Devin, wait! Where are you taking_'' She was thrown onto the bed like she was nothing to him. She could not see an ounce of feelings for her in his eyes. Eyes lifeless, with no passion, he ripped her clothes, shredding the last dignity she owned.

''What the hell are you doing, Devin!'' Morvena pushed his body off to the ground. She grabbed the blanket and covered her body. ''Are you crazy?''

''Is it what you asked for?''

''I never asked you to behave like a rabid dog.'' She yelled. Her eyes welled up in tears ''I want one passionate night with you to remember this lifetime. Can't you give me that?''

''My love and fiery passion are for her alone. You know that.'' Morvena watched his eyes, not gazing at her for a moment. What is the uniqueness he finds in Leena that he can't find in me? 

''I hate you. Get lost from here.'' Devin did not leave. Morvena fiercely grabbed the mobile from the stand and called the hospital Dean she mentally picked the number from the database of the hospital. ''Mr. Finn. I heard you are looking for a doctor to treat Leena..yes..yes..I heard....Allow me to look her injuries to determine if we can save her...well, I will start tonight...sure..thank you.''

Ending the call, Morvena gazed at Devin. ''You got what you want. Now get out of my room.'' Morvena yelled. ''Also, prepare yourself.''

''Keep my memories a secret.'' I whispered and left the house. I didnot care if she yelled or screamed at me. My mind was too occupied to give a damn to her feelings.

Just when Devin left, the doorbell rang again. Morvena quickly changed her dress and opened the door, thinking it was Devin again, but the living nightmare stood in front of her. Winter stood behind him.

''Aren't you welcoming your new brother-in-law?''

''Sorry?'' She stared at him in confusion. ''Brother-in-law?''

''Winter will explain in detail. Before that, let's talk.'' Enger walked past Morvena into the living room. ''I heard from your security guard that something happened inside."

"You are prying on me, bastard!"

"Quiet woman." Enger let out a deep sigh. "I don't have time. Hear me clearly. Erase my memories from Devin's brain along with Leena's memories. Along with it, I need his mobile."

''What!'' Morvena screamed in horror.

''You heard me right.'' Devin should never get a trigger from Leena's memories in his lifetime. Getting rid of Winter is easy. He has to lay a well trap for this dumbhead.

''I am not doing any favor to you. Get out of my house, Enger. Now.'' Morvena turned to Winter. ''Why did you bring this trouble to my house?''

''Enger promised to marry me if you agree to his wishes.'' Winter squeezed Morvena's hands to grab her attention. ''I never asked anything from you. Can you please do this favor?''

Morvena gnashed her teeth as her eyes darted to Enger's face. A cunning fox! ''He is using you, Winter. Why can't you see his ploys? With Devin aside, he will not have any threat. Don't you know that he still loves Leena?''

''Things can change. He promised me that he would treat me well after our marri_''

''Empty promises.'' Morvena cut her off. She tried hinting Enger's ploys to her sister, but she has turned into an airhead. When she didnot comply with his wishes, Enger threatened to leak her secret to the world. She has no way except to accept his forceful orders.

Tears streamed down from her closed eyes uncontrollably. She felt someone squeeze her heart, restricting the blood flow. My friend, my savior is Devin? I am his childhood sweetheart! Leena clasped her mouth shut, sinking the thoughts into her brain. ''Why did he do that? Twenty-three years of memories, he sacrificed to save me.'' Doctors said it was a miracle that she survived, but it was his sacrifice. 

''His love for you is unconditional.'' Morvena's throat squeezed, stopping her thoughts. ''The more you recovered physically from the injuries, he suffered a ten folded pain, physically, emotionally, mentally. I operated on his brain for six months. I wonder how he endured the pain. At one point in time, I couldn't recognize him. He went into depression, lost weight, addicted to drink to ease the pain. There is not a day he stopped crying, screaming your name at night. He was a living corpse for the display, better off dead.''

Leena squeezed her eyelids shut in the hope her tears would stop, but the pressure intensified. ''I want to see him.'' Leena got up to leave.

''Wait a second.'' Morvena left the room and came back in an instant with a pouch. ''My sixth sense says you need this. You know..in case something happens. Use this wisely.''

''What is it?'' Leena opened the pouch. There was a key, along with a paper, and in it, a handwritten address.

''It's Devin's. He buried the things related to you in a house before he lost the memories. The key and the address are in the pouch."

''Thank you.'' Leena placed the things back into the bag. "How did he come back to New York? He has no recollection of memories?"

"I wiped his memories of one year, and personally sent him. Whatever he remembers after, you should ask him."

"I will." Before leaving, she gave a hug to Morvena. Although Leena didnot speak a word, Morvena picked her emotions. 

''Even his lost memories couldn't restrict him from falling in love with you again. You are destined to be together. I am sorry for acting like a bitch in the middle.'' Morvena patted Leena's shoulder. After his memory loss, Morvena thought of starting a new life with Devin by entering into his life, but Enger stood like a barrier. She doubted Devin would have fallen for her even she approached after he lost memories. With or without memories, no one can replace Leena from his heart.

''Your apology is accepted.'' Long back, Leena narrated a movie story to Devin. The male lead falls in love with another girl after he loses his memories. He ducked the theory, stating that the male lead wouldn't have fallen for the second girl if he had really loved the first girl. He was right all along!

 ''At least, he confronted his feelings overcoming his nervousness this time."

Nervous? May be yes in the last. Pulling herself back to the present, Leena mentally began to prepare the list of things to talk when she meets him. Will he believe that I am the girl he saved? How to explain this to him dramatically?
