Chapter 443 - Living Corpse
Years passed, along with my love, my fear to express my feelings to Leena elevated to Everest. At first, I planned to talk with her after I became famous. I did become famous, but dropped the idea out of fear. I thought of directly confessing my feelings on my company's inauguration. I started my company on her birthday to remember.
Is it because of the pent-up feelings I suppressed for years that pushing me back or is it because I was scared of rejection? I don't know. But I get damn nervous just by the thought of confession.
Leena joined the college. At the same time, I went to Seattle for a small fashion show to which I was invited as a guest. Although the show doesn't stand for my reputation, I liked the theme.
I can't believe I crossed paths with Leena there. Instead of the guest, I turned into one of the contestants.. Maybe I was disguised in a rabbit costume, or I badly wanted to talk to her...I did initiate the conversation with her. The loud music has saved my day. If not, she would have heard my heart beating like I had gone crazy. I even took a bold step and asked for her number. I know she is one kind of crazy nut, but she happens to prove on the first day.
She demanded me to solve the fucking Avogadro's number to get her number. Like hell, why would I even attempt her fake theories when I have her number already. To provoke her, I texted her on the same day. It started with silly banter, and slowly our friendship blossomed.
All the time we do is play some games or text some funny stuff. Sometimes she complains about her friends not keeping the room clean or sometimes about her brother or Francy. I thoroughly enjoyed it when it comes to Francis stuff. He is the monster of my love life. I will make him lock him in a cellar if he does not agree to our marriage.
The four years I spent my time with Leena were the best of my life. I finally mustered up my courage to confront her. When the day I wanted to confess the truth, she gave me the biggest surprise. My heart broke when I learned she got a boyfriend for herself.
I know it's not her fault, but I have ignored her texts since that day. I didnot text her for a week. I shut down myself from work. If I had the ability, I wished to travel back in time and profess my feelings. If she had given Ethan a chance, there is no way she would have rejected me. At least the narcissist would consider my handsome face.
Happiness flooded in my little one's life. A boyfriend, dozens of job offers in her hands, graduation certificate in another month. What I didnot know was a scandal was waiting to tear her. Her tears broke my heart completely. My investigation didn't yield any result either.
I didnot plan to disturb her peace, but I felt she needed a distraction and a little motivation. I went to Seattle to meet her. With the recent ominous incidents happening around her, I have been keeping an eye on her. My suspicion was raised when she went to the cliff to meet a friend. My instincts raised a red signal. I went in search of her.
Fear seethed like a terrible monster as I saw her mobile on the muddy ground. ''Leena!'' I screamed.
''Leena! If you can hear my voice, can you respond, please?'' I lost the path once I stepped down the cliff, but I continued searching. At last, I found her injured body down the cliff, barely breathing. ''God damn it! How did this happen!'' Tears started to stream down my face as I dropped to the ground. ''I am here, little one. Don't panic.'' Discarding the creepers that shrouded her body.
''W..ho.. a,..re..you.'' She managed a whisper.
''Don't close you eyes. I am here.'' I gently lifted her and carried her to the car. On the way to the hospital, I motivated her to stay awake. But all of a sudden, she gave me the motivation by kissing me. I don't know what exactly I had to feel in that situation. I didnot have the time to think of it as we reached the hospital.
.....
''Her fall has implicated major organs in the body. We are sorry. Prepare for the worst.'' The doctor's words devasted me, like a sharp-toothed creature eating me alive.
''Nothing will happen to you.''
''I promised to keep you safe. I will not let anything happen to you.'' I fished out my mobile, and called a number. ''Are you in Russia?''
''Yes. Why_'' I cut off the call. I started to meet my last savior.
....
The moment she opened the door, my week collapsed to the floor. The pain in my heart started to pull back like the tide going out every passing second. ''I don't need to explain to you what happened there. Please...save her, Morvena. She is just a little girl."
''She is going to die, Devin.'' Morvena closed her eyes, looking at a girl's state on the hospital bed. ''Her organs are slowly shutting down. She doesn't have much time left. I can smell her death."
''Don't say that, please. She has many aspirations in her life." I begged, holding her hands. ''You saved me once from the accident.''
''That's different_''
''I trust you.'' My own voice sounded different to my ears. ''Didn't your mother bring the fetus back to life? Please bring back my Leena to life."
''Have you gone crazy? You are asking for life.'' She yelled. ''Remember a life comes at a bigger price.''
''I am willing to pay the price,'' I said in determination. ''Take my life in exchange.''
''You are offering your life for her sake!'' She chuckled, unable to believe that he was sacrificing like his life didn't matter to him.
''My life is meaningless if there is no her in this world.''
''Taking a life is a matter of seconds.'' Morvena exhaled a deep breath. ''The life you are asking is her lifelong happiness. Universe comes in balance. Her lifetime happiness has to be someone's lifelong grievance. Do you have such a lifetime grievance? Bring me that, I will save her life."
"I have." wallowing hard, I closed my eyes. Never I thought I would have to make this tough decision. ''My twenty-three years of her memories. Nothing is precious than the memories I hold of her."
"I am a living corpse without her memories. It's my lifelong grievance."
