Chapter 87: Ant Queen
Chapter 87: Ant Queen
Sol had been searching for the Ant queen for a long time but he could not find it, his sense could not pick up any presence of a Demigod.
He even doubts whether there really was a Demigod, but the number heir they had was clear proof that the ant queen had reach Demigod so he need to find it and or else it would bring more trouble in the future.
Nyx had brought him to the area, she told him that her people had spotted the Demigod around there, "It may have hidden itself under the ground, their bloodline ability allows it to hide under the ground."
Sol nodded and keep searching as what she said was similar to his own analysis, the Ant Demigod most probably was hiding to catch them by surprise.
Looking all around him, Sol felt something was strange, the snow had been cleaned around the area of a few kilometers that he could not pick up the Demigod's approximate location, it was as if the ant queen knew that they would come after it.
"hmm... Is it me or all this situation seem fishy?" Sol muttered to himself.
The situation indeed was fishy, first, the ant decides to attack when the firebird was weakened, unless it knows the situation then it would be too much of a coincidence.
Second, according to Jacob, the ant queen never join the attack, then why would it come to the city but not going to the front line with the other ant.
Let's say that it was breeding more ant to supply more ant for the frontline, then why it didn't attack after it has more ant as it could just accumulate more soldier.
Third, how did they got spotted, couldn't they just hid underground before the attack, it was too convenient for the patrol to suddenly find them and the patrol was conveniently also an heir so he could identify the army as heirs.
"Were we just lucky that we found out before the attack?" Sol muttered as he was not able to pinpoint the source.
Sol decides to try his luck by conjuring dozen ice spears and threw them into the ground, it could travel by tens of meters underground and he would sense it if it pierces something other than ice and soil.
He didn't hit anything other than rock and soil as the area was too large, he had been trying his luck blindly.
"I will try to find it from the sky," Nyx said and fire wings sprout from her back, with a light flap it brought her up in the sky.
Sol didn't stop her as he had not better plan than trying to find the ant queen, he might be strong but he was not omnipotent.
As soon as the firebird gets into the sky, Sol sense danger coming from all around him, withing second, a giant mandible sprout from the ground and bite him.
Sol reflexively conjures a giant ball of ice around him, it was shattered to pieces by the giant mandible but it had given Sol enough time to survive a certain fatal attack.
Instead of bitting and crush him to a bloody paste, the mandible missed him by a millimeter, it was thanks to his exceptional reflex that Sol could survive.
He jumped back to gain some distance and assessed the situation, in that second before the mandible sunk back to the ground, Sol had seen a giant ant head, the head was easily ten meters in diameter.
"What the fuck?" Sol cursed as that thing was easily the biggest creature he had seen after the evil spirit.
Even though size didn't deter him like before he became a Demigod, it still shows how strong the creature's physical ability was, after Sol become a Demigod he could theoretically kill a giant creature regardless of size as long as it was on the same level as him.
Sol looked around but he could not detect the ant queen location, its ability to submerge under the ground was stronger than its lesser counterpart, there was no shaking on the ground when it moves, if not for Sol's intuition and reflex then he would not survive such an ambush.
To his surprise, the ice ball was destroyed easily, normally it would absorb heat from its target to strengthen its structure but it hardly could absorb heat from the creature.
It was as if the creature was encased by isolating material that inhibits the heat absorption, "Is this a coincidence?" Sol lamented.
Other than a coincidence there was two other option, one the ant was not a Lesser Demigod but a Minor Demigod so it has resistance against his ability or it knew about his ability and prepared against it.
Sol was vigilant for another attack from the ant queen, he looked around but found nothing in the silent plains.
It was then that his intuition told him that he was in danger, Sol rolled forward in a hurry which saved him from another attack from the ant queen.
While at it, he shot a dozen ice projectile at it, the ice shattered harmlessly oh its hard chitin armor hard surface as it could not accumulate strength.
Nyx who saw Sol survive the attack, shot fire projectiles at the ant queen as well which result in the same manner as Sol's Ice projectile.
Sol was confused as the Ant chitin armor was immune to both ice and fire ability, logically it should not be immune t both abilities unless it's way stronger than both Sol and Nyx.
What he did not know was the fired projectile was not harmful in any way, it was the firebird healing fire which was used to aid the ant queen.
Ant queen was not inherently immune to Sol's sun ice ability, its chitin armor was covered by the firebird ashes which help it resist the absorption.
Every time Sol hit it with his attack, the ashes would be scraped off but Nyx would secretly use her fire to reapply this ashes coating.
"Fuck!" Sol cursed as he keeps dodging the ant's attack, he purely relying on his gut feeling to dodge which saved him multiple times.
He had tried to use his healing dome ability to strengthen his ice projectiles but it only helps him pierce no more than an inch of the chitin armor.
He could sense his absorption become effective once the ice pierced the armor but it would be pulled out once the ant queen dives back to the ground.
Sol was contemplating whether to use his other ability when Nyx land next to him, she reaches out her hand toward him and said, "Take my hand, I will carry you to the sky so you can attack it from the sky,"
Sol looked suspiciously at the firebird but he still takes her hand, "you better hold me tight or you might fall," she warned.
Nyx pulled him high in the sky which gave him a goosebump, "Hey, aren't we a bit too high? Let's stop here," Sol said.
"No, it might be jumping to us, just look at how big it is, with its body, it could easily reach 50 meters tall, if it jumps then it might reach more than a hundred meter," Nyx reasoned with him.
"Ugh... fine, Don't let me go," Sol said while tightening his grip on the girl's arm.
Being high in the sky, Sol looked down to find the ant queen, but it was not visible as it was underground, but to his surprise, it went out of the ground to show its full majesty.
A giant ant easily sixty meters long emerge from the snowy ground and looked at the pair in the air.
It was then that Sol saw the city, he was high enough to see them from there, the fortification was swarmed with an ant which easily reaches eight hundred body in number.
The defender was losing and the two giant canines were outnumbered too much to make a difference.
"What the fuck? How is there so much ant?" Sol wondered in shock.
His mind was still processing the information and all the clue he had to pick up when Nyx suddenly let go of his arm and send a fire projectile behind his back and head.
It sent him shooting to the ground without the ability to slow himself down, he could hear his ears ringing and his back aching from the hit.
Sol had used his ice armor but being hit by a concentrated attack on the point-blank range while he was off guard still deal a lot of damage. Sol did not use his ice armor to absorb heat from the flaming bird so it can fly which weaken his defense against its attack.
On the ground the ant queen had been waiting for him, to come toward its mouth, Sol was free-falling into its deadly maw.
"Damn it! that fucking bird betray us!" Sol finally realized his mistake.
