Chapter 517: There are still reasons that he doesn’t know about 516.
Upon hearing the news, Mo Xiuchen’s eyes flashed with something strange.
He gently pursed his thin lips, looking down at the burn on his right hand, and the memory of Wen Ran’s worried look surfaced again.
She held his hand, turned on the cold water tap, and washed the area where he was burned. Then, she gently applied the ointment to the wound. Her actions were all instinctual and gentle…
“Actually, Ranran didn’t want me to tell you it was her who told me this. But I know, it’s impossible to hide it from you, so I told you honestly. Mo Xiuchen, don’t look like that, it makes me feel guilty,” Gu Kai said.
Gu Kai looked at the silent Mo Xiuchen, whose handsome brows furrowed slightly.
Mo Xiuchen was about to say something, but he was interrupted by the sudden ringing of his cell phone.
He pulled out his phone, narrowed his eyes at the incoming call, pressed the answer key, and calmly answered, “Hello.”
“Young Master Mo, it’s me, Qing Feng,” the voice came through the phone, hesitant. Mo Xiuchen felt a knot in his chest and blurted out, “Is something wrong?”
Qing Feng and Qing Yang had always been protecting Wen Ran at the Wen’s house. Seeing Qing Feng’s hesitation over the phone, he immediately thought that something had happened to Wen Ran again.
“There’s something, I don’t know if I should tell you,” Qing Feng answered.
“Tell me.”
In response, Mo Xiuchen furrowed his brows, his voice filled with an unyielding authority, leaving Qing Feng no room for hesitation and so he answered truthfully, “This afternoon, Miss Shen came to see Miss Wen. They were chatting in the yard. I saw Miss Wen crying very badly, and it seemed like Miss Shen was crying too…”
Mo Xiuchen gripped the phone tighter, his deep, profound eyes darkened like ink, “Alright, I got it.”
His voice was low, filled with restrained emotions. After speaking, he hung up the phone.
After they had finished eating, Gu Kai handed him the ointment. Mo Xiuchen didn’t refuse, instead he applied it in front of him. After which, with a slight smile, he said, ” Now you can go back and report.”
Gu Kai raised an eyebrow at him, a probing look went through Mo Xiuchen’s eyes, “Of course, I’ve completed my mission, it’s time for me to go home and sleep.”
Leaving the restaurant, both of them went their separate ways.
Mo Xiuchen didn’t go back to the Wen’s house, but returned to his and Wen Ran’s home. He lit a cigarette, picked up his phone, and discussed the divorce agreement with his lawyer.
After ending the call, he looked at the time and dialed Shen Yuting’s number.
The call rang several times, but Shen Yuting didn’t pick up.
Sitting alone in his massive master bedroom, Mo Xiuchen, his gaze clouded by smoke, stared at the expansive bed. The happiness and fulfillment of the past were gone, leaving only an endless emptiness.
When he finished smoking, he got up to take a shower.
At half past eleven in the evening, after his shower, his phone rang. It was a call back from Shen Yuting.
“Mo Xiuchen, I was a bit busy earlier and didn’t hear the phone ring. I just noticed,” Shen Yuting explained softly. Mo Xiuchen cut to the chase, “I heard you went to see Ranran in the afternoon.”
She had wanted to find Wen Ran when they were in the hospital.
His voice was low, carrying a hint of undisguised displeasure and accusation, making Shen Yuting feel bit uncomfortable.
“Yes, I went to see Ranran this afternoon. She’s my cousin, I was just checking in on her,” She explained, removing Jiang Liu’s arm from her shoulder, and walking to the window.
“What did you talk about?”
Mo Xiuchen’s eyes squinted.
“We talked about a lot. I’ve been so busy with my own relationship lately and you’ve been monopolizing her all the time, I haven’t had time to see her. Yesterday, I finally got to see her, so naturally we had a lot to talk about,” Shen Yuting responded, her tone showing clear signs of resentment.
Mo Xiuchen, shrewd as he is, heard the resentment in her tone. His gaze shifted slightly, his tone gentler, as he said sincerely, “Yuting, Qing Feng told me, Ranran was crying miserably. I want to know what you talked about.”
The moment he said that, Shen Yuting’s resentment dissipated. He was the man she had loved so deeply; she couldn’t bear to see him distressed or hear the sadness in his voice.
A cup of milk was handed to her from the side, Shen Yuting looked up to meet Jiang Liu’s gentle gaze. She gave him a small smile, took the milk, took a sip, then spoke, “Ranran did cry, but it wasn’t because of me, she cried for you.”
“What did she say to you?”
There was a brief silence on the other side of the phone.
Only after Shen Yuting finished her cup of milk did Mo Xiuchen’s voice come through again, low and suppressed.
“Mo Xiuchen, don’t you know everything already? Ranran divorced you because of her illness. I was just comforting her, telling her to recover soon so she can start over with you,” Shen Yuting looked at Jiang Liu sitting across her, thinking about Mo Xiuchen’s eyes filled with pain. Her brows furrowed slightly.
“There isn’t anything else?”
Mo Xiuchen wasn’t satisfied with Shen Yuting’s answer.
Perhaps he was still harboring doubts. Gu Kai, Gu Yan, even Shen Yuting was able to come to the same conclusion. Even though Mo Xiuchen wasn’t a doctor, he was in love with Wen Ran.
Their hearts often beat as one.
Gu Kai told him to go to the hospital for a check-up, on the grounds that he had been taking the same medicine as Wen Ran for a long time, and that all medicines were toxic to some degree.
On the same day, he told him that he supported Wen Ran’s decision and urged him to let go.
Mo Xiuchen had known Gu Kai for over twenty years, and had spent over twenty years with him searching for his little sister. Gu Kai’s heart ached not only for his sister’s troubles but also out of guilt.
A few days ago, he said he didn’t want Ranran to divorce him, because he knew privately that Wen Ran would be unhappy without him.
In just a matter of days, his stance had changed.
There must be something more behind it that he didn’t know.
“There’s nothing else, Mo Xiuchen. I think even after your divorce with Ranran, it doesn’t stop you from continuing to love her and being good to her. By being there for her in another role, with less pressure, she can recover faster,” Shen Yuting’s words echoed the promise she made to Wen Ran – not to tell Mo Xiuchen. Even if he kept asking, it would be futile.
“Alright then!”
Mo Xiuchen didn’t press further, but ended the call.

“Yuting, it’s cold standing down there. Come up to bed and sleep,” in the apartment, Jiang Liu, seeing Shen Yuting hanging up the phone and falling into deep thought, wrapped his arm around her shoulder tenderly.
Shen Yuting knitted her brows and said hesitantly, “Should I have told Mo Xiuchen the truth just now?”
Jiang Liu was taken aback, followed by a soothing smile, “Weren’t you telling the truth just now? What are you hiding from him?”
Shen Yuting returned to bed with him, conflictingly saying: “I promised Ranran that I wouldn’t tell Mo Xiuchen, but I don’t know whether I should tell him the truth or not.”
“I’m a bit confused, aren’t Mo Xiuchen and Wen Ran in a great relationship? Is there a problem between them?” Jiang Liu asked, puzzled.
