Chapter 516: 515 Her Concern
Chapter 516: 515 Her Concern
“Ranran, I’ve sent you a video.”
That night, after taking her medicine, Wen Ran received a call from Bai Xiaoxiao. She asked in confusion, “What kind of video?”
“It’s Cheng Jia, attempting to seduce Mo Xiuchen at the company during lunch today. You should watch it.”
Earlier, she had heard her phone’s notification sound but hadn’t paid much attention. Now hearing Xiaoxiao’s words, she opened WeChat and saw a video sent by Xiaoxiao indeed. But she had no idea what the content was.
“You watch it first. I’m going to take a shower.”
Without any further conversation, Xiaoxiao hung up the phone.
“Ranran, what video did Xiaoxiao send you?” Sitting on the sofa next to her, Wen Jin wore a smile. He had been too busy during daytime. Once he heard Ranran had visited Mo Xiuchen, he hadn’t had time to come home. In the evening, he turned down a dinner invitation to have a meal with her.
Wen Ran gave a slight smile and said: “I’m not sure yet, brother. Come sit with me and watch.”
Wen Jin moved closer to her. Wen Ran then opened the video. The scene was Mo Xiuchen’s office, which she recognized at the first glance.
“Cheng Jia?”
Wen Jin uttered her name softly, his eyes filled with worry as they fell upon Wen Ran.
Feeling his gaze, Wen Ran tilted up the corner of her mouth and remained silent. Her stern gaze fixed on the man in the video. His handsome and clear-cut face shrouded in a layer of cold indifference, with an icy penetrating gaze towards Cheng Jia, merciless as a blade.
However, Cheng Jia did not retreat. Carrying lunch to him, she made Wen Jin slightly frown. Unconsciously, Wen Ran’s hand, holding the phone had tightened.
Cheng Jia placed the lunch on the coffee table in front of Mo Xiuchen, her voice was gentle and alluring. However, within two seconds, Wen Ran had opened her eyes wide in shock. Fear flashed in her eyes.
Mo Xiuchen brushed away Cheng Jia’s lunchbox with the hand that had been scalded while fetching water in the morning.
Wen Ran seemed to not notice Cheng Jia’s shriek when Mo Xiuchen’s action resulted in her getting scalded too. All her attention was on Mo Xiuchen’s hand, trying to perceive whether he had hurt his hand.
He quickly left the office and Luo Haofeng walked in.
Wen Ran watched the scenes that followed with a distracted gaze, regardless of Cheng Jia limping or her crouching on the floor to clean up the mess of food and then wiping the floor, she didn’t pay them any mind.
The only thing on her mind was Mo Xiuchen’s hand.
“This Cheng Jia totally deserves it.”
Wen Jin commented somewhat angrily. Wen Ran gathered her thoughts, looked at Wen Jin, and said softly: “Brother, I’m going to bed first.”
“Good, get some rest. I will wait for you to have breakfast tomorrow.”
“Alright, good night brother!”
After Wen Ran finished her words, she took her phone upstairs. Back in her room, she watched the video again. When she saw Mo Xiuchen sweeping away the food with his hand, she paused the video.
Considering how Cheng Jia limped earlier, the food must have been very hot, especially the soup.
After some thought, she dialed Gu Kai’s number.
The phone rang twice before Gu Kai answered, his voice deep and warm over the line: “Hello, Ranran!”
“Older Brother Gu, Are you free at the moment?”
“I just got off work and am heading home. Ranran, what’s up?”
There was the sound of a door being closed from the other side of the call. Gu Kai had just left his office and was leisurely walking towards the elevator.
“Well, Mo Xiuchen scalded his hand during lunch today. Could you perhaps send him some ointment?”
Wen Ran went to the French window and pulled back the curtains. Through the glass, she looked outside. Originally, she just wanted to look at the tranquil night scene. However, when her eyes landed on a dark car parked not too far away under the dim night light, her heart jolted unexpectedly.
In her ear, Gu Kai’s voice came, tinged with confusion: “Send ointment? Ranran, Mo Xiuchen came to the hospital this afternoon but I didn’t hear anything about a burnt hand, when did this happen?”
The grip on her phone tightened fiercely and she took a step back.
Downstairs, in the driver’s seat of the Aston Martin, it seemed like Mo Xiuchen sensed the gaze from the second floor. He looked up, his deep eyes staring at her window.
He didn’t see a person, just the curtain swaying slightly.
Leaning against the wall, her heart was pounding, as if about to jump out of her chest. She raised a hand to her chest, forgetting to answer Gu Kai.
“Ranran, are you listening?”
There was no answer from Wen Ran on the phone, which caused worry to seep into Gu Kai’s voice.
“I’m here. Mo Xiuchen scalded his hand while fetching hot water this morning. At noon, when Cheng Jia brought him lunch, He spilled it. It seemed like there was soup too, and he used the burnt hand.”
After hearing this, Gu Kai didn’t ask further but agreed readily: “Alright, I’ll call Mo Xiuchen now to see where he is, I’ll take him some ointment and also see if he has eaten dinner.”
“Okay.”
Wen Ran didn’t tell Gu Kai that Mo Xiuchen was right downstairs at her house.
**
When his phone ringed, Mo Xiuchen retracted his gaze and pulled out his cellphone. He glanced at the call ID before answering with a simple ‘Hello’.
“Mo Xiuchen, are you still working overtime?”
Gu Kai’s voice was teasing; Mo Xiuchen’s brow furrowed slightly as he replied indifferently, “No.”
“Then where are you now, I’ll come find you.”
“I’m busy now.” Mo Xiuchen looked up at the lit window on the second floor and suspected if it was Wen Ran who called Gu Kai to drive away from there.
“What are you busy with, you’re not with Cheng Jia, are you? Oh well, I’ll just tell you the truth. Ranran said that your hand got burnt and asked me to send you some ointment.”
“Ranran?”
At those words, a touch of self-mockery spread across Mo Xiuchen’s lips. Did she dislike him so much that she couldn’t stand even his silent presence downstairs? Was she afraid that he would disturb her again?
“Where are you? I’ll come to you.”
Without waiting for Gu Kai to speak, he asked instead.
After he finished speaking, he started the car.
Twenty minutes later, Mo Xiuchen found Gu Kai at a restaurant. Gu Kai had ordered a tableful of dishes and was enjoying them alone.
“Mo Xiuchen, come. Have dinner with me first. I haven’t eaten anything since the afternoon surgery. I’m starving.”
Gu Kai saw Mo Xiuchen coming over and waved him over with a smile. After swallowing the food in his mouth, he began to grumble.
Mo Xiuchen didn’t say anything. After he sat down, he picked up the chopsticks and began to eat attentively.
“Haven’t you had dinner too? Isn’t it true that Cheng Jia brought you lunch at noon? You and Ranran aren’t even divorced, and Cheng Jia is already showing her affection for you. She really is infatuated with you.”
Gu Kai saw that Mo Xiuchen, completely focused on eating and not saying a word had a gaze full of displeasure. Cheng Jia had been unsettled all day at the MS Group.
“How do you know about that?”
Mo Xiuchen narrowed his eyes. The action of picking up the food stopped momentarily.
“Ranran told me. She said you got burned while fetching hot water in the morning. At noon, Cheng Jia brought you food. You spilled it and it seemed like there was soup too. You used the burned hand. But seeing as you can still use chopsticks, it shouldn’t be too serious.”
Gu Kai glanced at the hand Mo Xiuchen was holding chopsticks with. Mo Xiuchen had visited the hospital in the afternoon, but he hadn’t noticed the burn on his hand. He just noticed it now.
