Chapter 11: Next Trial!
Chapter 11: Next Trial!
“These two crystal balls are known as Energy Evaluation device and Ability Affinity device. I’ll use the two crystal balls to check your Magic Energy Capacity and your Affinity to Ability. They will reveal the total amount of magic energy your body can contain and the supernatural cells you can contain in your bloodstream once you place your hands on top of them. Do you understand?”
Nina Olsen spoke softly, but her crystal clear voice sounded in the ears of everyone present inside this examination room.
“We understand, ma’am!” The examinees exclaimed as they looked at Nina Olsen with gazes of respect, awe, admiration, and love.
“With that said, let’s start assessing your magic energy capacity and affinity to abilities.” Nina Olsen looked at the students seated in the front row before she continued speaking,
“Just announce your name and come up to the table to get tested.”
As soon as she said those words, a black screen with golden words popped in front of Elliot’s eyes.
<Trial “Champion’s Name Ring a Bell” has started>
<Shock, surprise, or amaze fifty people>
<Completed: 0/50>
<Rewards: 50 essences of life, God’s Breath Manipulation Ability>
<Time Limit: 6 hours>
<Failure to complete the trial will result in a penalty. You’ll gain one strike on your rights as a champion. Three strikes in a row, and you’ll lose your authority and your status as a Champion>
Elliot started thinking about ways to surprise the magicians present in this examination room, and a moment later, realizing that there are far too many ways for him to complete this trial, the worries that have crept up his heart after reading the penalty dissipated.
“My name’s Theo Rose. And I would like to go first.”
Just when Elliot finished making up his mind, Theo Rose stood up from his seat and walked towards the crystal table.
Theo was a young boy with a slender build and silky white hair, very pale skin, wearing a pair of eyeglasses with black shade to cover his eyes. He wore a white shirt and black jacket over his upper body, and black jeans covered his slender, long legs.
“I’m sure he looks pretty good.”
The girl identified that he looks handsome from his narrow jaw-line and pimples-free face.
“Just place your hand on the Energy Evaluation Device before placing it on the Ability Affinity Device.” Nina Olsen said with an amiable smile once Theo stood next to the table.
“I understand,” Theo said as he placed his hand on the Energy Evaluation Device.
The orb trembled before blue dots started to appear on its surface, combining with each other, condensing into a form of numbers.
“Your magic energy capacity is 98.” Nina Olsen said with a surprised expression on her pretty face after she saw the number that has appeared on the device.
“How could this be possible?”
“He is only sixteen years old but already a few steps away from the Channel Opening Realm.”
“This is inconceivable!”
Elliot and the students looked at Theo Rose with an expression of bewilderment, awe rising in their hearts as they heard the announcement of his result.
Everyone knew that the magic energy capacity determined the evolutionary stage of magicians.
For example, a magician that can contain one to ten units of magic energy in his body is classified to be at level one of the magical realm.
Theo Rose, whose body could store 98 units of magic energy, was at the 9.8 level of the magical realm evolutionary stage!
“I’ve never heard about him before this day. The surname Rose doesn’t belong to any of the famous magician’s families either. Just who in the world is he?” Nina Olsen thought as she looked at Theo.
Theo acted as if he didn’t notice the commotion he has caused in the examination room and proceeded to place his hand on the Ability Affinity Device.
It didn’t take more than a few seconds for the dark crystal ball to release a blinding purple and green color, signifying Theo’s affinity to Wood and Space Abilities.
Not just Nina Olsen, but even the students felt like they were losing their shit as they gazed at the blinding lights shooting out of the crystal ball. What the hell is going on? Is he a human beloved by the divine? How come he not only possesses extreme talent as a magician but also has an affinity to the rarest abilities?!
“You can contain both spatial and wood ability cells in your body?!” Instructor Nina asked as she gulped her saliva, feeling perplexed at the present situation and awed by the youngster in front of her.
“Yes, instructor,” Theo replied in a calm tone.
“Have you awakened?” She asked, trying to look at him with a calm expression but unable to hide the astonishment she held for Theo presented in her eyes.
Awakening was a term used for Magician who possess a ability.
There were two ways a magician awakens an ability.
The first and the most followed method was to slay monsters, obtaining evolution material from their bodies, purify it into a state where it can be consumed without harmful side effects such as monstrous mutation, and consume it to gain supernatural cells in their bloodstream.
The magician will awaken an ability once enough supernatural cells are present in their bloodstream.
Of course, they could only contain supernatural cells they have an affinity to in their bloodstream.
The second method only worked for talented magician.
Some extremely talented magicians awaken an ability when they’re feeling happy, sad, or stressed, less talented ones need to face life-threatening situations or extreme emotions to awaken an ability.
“Why do you ask?” Theo Rose asked with a questioning look in his eyes as he looked at her.
“Ah, it isn’t for something personal.” Instructor Nina Olsen said, “If you don’t have an ability related to your affinities, then we will provide you with the necessary resources to awaken one.”
“I possess abilities related to my affinities, so I don’t need the academy’s favor,” Theo said in a calm tone.
“Okay.” Nina tapped away at a holographic panel that suddenly popped up in front of her, registering Theo’s information into the Magician Association database.
“Can I go now?” Theo asked.
“Yes,” Nina replied.
Theo walked away from her, approaching Elliot and sitting in an empty chair beside him.
His actions caused everyone’s eyes to widen in surprise!
