CH.441 Rending Claws
After our little trip in the last chapter, and my goal of unlocking as many racial skills as I can, I found myself training with Einar, Eline and Maya.
Maya was important, as she has the Enhanced Reflexes racial skill. So I wanted to see if I could learn that skill from her, as I still don’t know what my cat-folk racial skill is.
And while I was working on that, I decided to double up and also learn how to use a whip. It was not really anything I was ever going to use in battle, but my Dark Chains are almost like whips, and Whip Technique is the closest weapon skill the System has to chains. And since I telepathically control the entire Dark Chain, it isn’t like how chains usually work will limit how I can use them.
I ended up breaking three whips, because I was just using too much force at the start. … and I mean, I do have a Strength stat of almost 3000, so I suppose that it is understandable, but I’m pretty good at holding back in day to day life.
But apparently combat practice is different, because I actually try to use some force. And a whip made of C-rank monster’s leather just doesn’t hold up.
So I had to have Wilma make me a better one, and Stina even enchanted it to be as durable as possible. That did also mean I needed more durable targets, but luckily I can easily make boulders or anything else similar with Earth Spirit Magic.
On one of the breaks from whip practice, I decided to test something else I had in mind. That was testing if I can get the Tough Claws racial skill. So while in my cat-folk form, I just kept scratching and scratching at a rock I previously used as a target for my whip.
It hurt a bit, but not too bad, and my claws did leave some nice marks on the rock, but it didn’t seem like I was getting any skills from this.
That was, until I decided to focus some mana into my cat claws. After I did so, my claws began to cut through the rock with relative ease. It wasn’t like there was no resistance, but there wasn’t much.
As I pulled my claws out of the rock and looked at them with Mana Vision active, I quickly realized what happened. My claws were coated in a thin layer of highly condensed mana. The coating was much concentrated that the mana coating that came from a skill like Telekinesis, so I was interested in if this was a skill, or just something you can regularly do with Mana Control.
My answer came when I opened my status, and noticed not one, not two, but three new skills added to my status.

Not only did I unlock the Tough Claws skill, which will be nice as I should also be able to use that skill while in my draconic form, I also got Rending Claws and Mana Blade.
Tough Claws is just that, Tough Claws. My claws are tougher and do more damage. Nothing special about it. It did make my cat-folk claws a bit more pronounced, so it did have that effect.
Mana Blade is generally a sword skill. Technically it can be done with any bladed weapon, be it a spear, halberg, or yes, even claws. It is done by forming a secondary blade of mana around the sword you are using. And because of the secondary blade of magic around the original sword, your sword swings will do both physical and magical damage, allowing them to hit monsters that are normally unaffected by physical attacks.
I could already use something similar to the skill with Errelitea, as that sword basically forms a Mana Blade by itself, as long as you put enough mana into it, but I hadn’t gotten the skill yet.
But now I got the skill, so that is nice.
Last is Rending Claws. It is basically a combination of Mana Blade and Tough Claws, forming claw shaped Mana Blades over my regular claws. It looked really cool and seemed quite effective. And I think I can use this skill at the same time as Beast Union.
Just imagine Nir coming at you with magic enhanced claws. … wait! He already does that! He could use Rending Claws before I could.
I lost to my summon. … well, I suppose he is a Fenrir so it should have been a given, but still. And I lose to Himeśaila when it comes to draconic skills. … I don’t know if I should be happy that I have top tier summons, or disappointed in myself because my skills suck.
I know, I know. I’m being pessimistic. But it does piss me off when I realize that I could have had these skills this easily, but for some reason, my usual training just wasn’t enough.
I just shook my head and decided to teleport away from the training grounds. I just can’t focus on this now, so let’s do something else instead.
And you all should know what that something else is. When I want my mind off of things, there is only one thing that will get me there.
Opening packs. Phantom Darkness packs to be specific. I still don’t have a Yubel, and I do want one.
And because I have most of the cards from the set already, I’ll do this speedrun style. Starting off with 30 packs.

Okay. Well, let’s go over the new stuff.
Starting off, Super Polymerization! And it is freaking awesome. For me. Because with Super Poly, I can just fuse together whatever I want, no need for permission. So I can just grab a few wild monsters and fuse them together. If I want to. And I might just do so. I mean, some time ago, I did try to fuse one of my cards with a local monster, but it didn’t work, because the monster wasn’t under my control. But with Super Poly, that won’t matter. So yeah. Super Poly is nice.
Cry Havoc is also new, but I don’t need additional summons, so it is useless.
Dark Illusion is okay, but I have more versatile traps.
Dark Grepher is good in the TCG, but for me, not really all that great.
Prime Material Dragon is actually really nice, as it can turn any damaging effect into healing instead. Like if someone gets poisoned, just summon Prime Material Dragon and they are healed instead.
Field-Commander Rahz is just your average warrior monster, nothing that special about him.
Dark Horus is good, nothing else to say about that. … I guess I could say that he looks awesome.
Allure of Darkness is decent for producing Pack tokens, but because it needs banishment, I have better options.
And Metal Reflect Slime is a trap, so I can set it on people, and then they can be defended by a giant metallic slime. So yes, it is good.
But no Yubel, other than Terror Incarnate, which sadly is the one version of Yubel I already had, so I’ll do another 30 packs.

Okay, technically I didn’t yet have an ultimate rare Darknight Parshath, so technically it is new. But I did have the ultra rare variant, so it doesn’t count. … it half counts.
I’ll pull open another 40 packs, just so I get to an even 100. And if I don’t get a Yubel from them, I should at least get more super rares I can use with Card Trader.

Okay. A few new cards.
Doomsday Horror is … a bit too specific. Sure gaining attack and defense for each banished Dark monster is nice, but I have cards that do more for less. I think the better effect is actually returning all of the banished Dark monsters to the GY, as that will allow me to use some of the banishing cards without having to worry about losing the cards permanently.
Dark Eruption is a simple graveyard recovery card, and not even all that good. Sure it isn’t terrible either, just very specific.
Zoma the Spirit is one of the better trap monsters. Sure it has to first be in defense mode, so it cannot attack as quickly as some of the other trap monsters, but the effect to damage whoever kills it is nice.
The Beginning of the End is decent Pack token production, mostly because of Doomsday Horror’s ability to recover the banished Dark monsters.
And last, Rainbow Neos! I don’t think I need to tell you this, but Rainbow Neos is amazing!
So yeah. Great opening as a whole, and I still have a few cards to Card Trader.

It is something I didn’t have, so that is good. But I can do a few more spins, so next I traded in Golden Flying Fish.
In return, I was given Cyber Valley.

Again, I didn’t yet have Cyber Valley, so I’ll take it.
And I think that will be all for today. No Yubel today, but Rainbow Neos is a pretty nice, so I’m not too salty.
I’ll just open even more packs next time, and then I’ll be sure to get that Yubel.
