Chapter 70: Meeting the smithy warden
Chapter 70: Meeting the smithy warden
Going back to the smithy area isn't a hard task for me. Maybe thanks to my improved inteligence stat, recalling the road that I took previously to get there was just a walk in the park for me.
Thank God, while I go through the streets in the open, I don't see any curious stares on me. It seems that the information about the duel didn't spread wide within the sect. Well, only Stella, Eve and I know what is really at the stake in this fight, so it's no wonder no one is really interested in just a small quarrel of two fellow sect members.
In just a few minutes long walk, I arrive at the doorsteps of the smithy. Who could've guessed, but by the time that passed since I was here for the last time, there were literally no changes to the building! It stood just the way it did before, ignoring the fact that such a legendary weapon like windslord was created there! What a disgrace for their organisational skill!
Crossing the doors, I appear in the familiar corridor with doors on both sides and a warden office right at the end. Walking through it confidently, I arrive at the desk, throw my new identification token in front of the warden and introduce myself.
"Cultivator Bart from the core sect. Since the process of moving from the inner part didn't finish for me yet, I would like to use one of the rooms. Would Senior be so kind as to help me out?"
As everywhere else in the sect, all kinds of positions were manned by either exceptional cultivators of the respective area of the sect or a delegated experts from the upper level. Just like inner disciples were working in the outer sect as a teachers, wardens, guards or profession masters, so did core disciples here. Only the core of the sect employed real top-notch experts from the outside or from within the graduated disciples that returned back to their former home.
Thanks to this system, diligent cultivators who couldn't afford giving up on everything to train, could use their position to earn some merit points exchangeable for various techniques, resources or just plain money.
"Didn't you destroy half of the room the last time you were here? You really have no shame! And to show up with a fake identification token, are you courting death?"
Rising his face from the scroll that he was reading, the man sitting behind the desk looked at me and instantly flared up. All in all, forging any kind of token without authorisation from the teacher was a grave insult to the sect master's face. If he really believed I dared to do something like that, I couldn't blame him for bursting in wrath!
"Senior, please do not misunderstand! This token is absolutely legit! Check it however you want! As an overseer of the smithy, you ought to be able to check its validity!"
I came here to forge some mediocre weapon, not to join in some petty drama! To be perfectly honest, with my new identity as core sect disciple and direct student of Sect Master, I far outclassed this guy in social ranking. But if I start to flaunt my standing here, the rumours will spread around the sect in a flash. Only when the duel will be over I can make use of it!
"You sure have guts! Okay, I will check it! But if I see anything wrong with it, be ready to fight for your life!"
Unsheathing his sword, this damn guy placed in on the desk before turning his attention to inspect the token.
As if this kind of action would stop me if I were to attempt a murder here! He said I have guts to act the way I do? I would rather say that this guy doesn't fear death by making things hard for me!
Ah, I need to calm myself! I came here to fucking forge a simple sword, not to bring justice to a random guy who rightfully wants to defend the sect rules and his master honour!
Thankfully, after wasting more than ten minutes of my life, warden finally lifted his head with a complicated expression on his face. Putting his sword back into the scabbard, he passed the token back to me.
"Fourth room on my left is free for the next three hours. Feel free to use it to your heart desire. I'm sorry for my wild assumptions, I hope senior won't hold a grudge with lowly me!"
Oh, it seems that this token isn't as great as I hoped. If my predictions were right, a plain core cultivator would be unable to decipher the meaning behind it except for the fact that I officially belong to the core sect.
"I don't really mind it, you just tried to stay true to our sect rules. Can I assume that no one will be any wiser about my identity before it will get officially announced? I bet Stella would erupt in wrath if someone were to foil her plans!"
Even if I try to act like a nice and kind person, if this guy understood the importance of my identity, I need to threaten him a bit. If rumours were to spread about some sort of connections between me and sect master, Baxhar would be sure to put the validity of our duel into question. By referring to the master by her name, not only I proved that I don't fear any retaliation for such action, but I also informed this guy about the potential consequences of crossing the line!
"Of course, Senior doesn't have to worry about it! This information will be sealed as tightly as my mother's grave!"
Noticing the fear in his eyes, I only nodded in satisfaction and turned around. While the sword that I have in mind has a basic structure, I need to be really careful as to not overdo it. Additionally, I still hope that I will have some time left to train and enjoy my meal with Eve! If I want to finish all of that in time, I need to hurry!
