Chapter 26 26. Pride Of A Dragon
“Marvelous isn’t it? Can you believe that wolves were the ancestors of this creature that we’re seeing right now? If we were to inspect closely we would find so many resemblances.”
The bald professor kept on babbling. Half of the class was already asleep by this point.
In front of him on the table was a wolf-like creature. The creature although resembled a wolf but was very different too.
For starters, this creature was humanoid in shape. Meaning instead of all four, its body was developed to move on the hind legs.
The second feature was that the creature had winds on its back.
With a height of 8 feet and black fur along with its crow-like wings, and a wolf’s head, the creature was a nightmare out of fantasy books.
However, right now it was nothing but a dead two-legged dog with a pair of wings. Only being used as a dissection subject for a bunch of human kids to watch like a lab rat.
“Professor Rick, we understand how marvelous that creature is now. You can move on. Besides, it is not like a mindless overgrown animal would be a threat to us, Ability Users, anyway.” One of the students stood up and spoke after reaching the end of his rope.
It’s been 15 minutes since the bald professor started his lecture but he has yet to talk about anything useful.
“Ahh, is that so? Youngsters these days… tsk tsk”
Clicking his tongue in frustration and disappointment, the professor stepped back and took off his lab coat.
“Do you all believe that you would be able to hold your own against these mutated beasts?”
He said as he surveyed the whole class.
“Of course, we can!”
“I’m the strongest one here so yeah”
“Is this a joke?”
The reactions were exactly like what professor Rick had expected.
“Since you all belong to the Warrior class and you all are so confident in dealing with these beasts, why don’t you guys give it a go?” Professor Rick said with a smug look.
“Give what a go?” One of the female students asked with a confused frown on her face..
“Come here and try to destroy it, cut it open, split it in two, burn it off, anything! But only use your abilities.”
The professor had a smirk on his face by this point. He gestured students to come forth and some of them took it as a challenge.
How can they not?!
It’s a dead beast and most of them all belonged to noble families. They were raised like royalties, they had their pride. And right now that pride is being threatened by a bald old man!
The first one to accept the challenge was the red-haired boy sitting beside Sam.
“This mothafaka! Is he challenging me?! Fine!” Drake got up from his seat as he said that.
“Woah woah, are you sure?” Sam held him back by grabbing his hand,
“That is a [HellWolf]. A rank [A] no less, you won’t be able to cut its hard skin easily with just your [Pyrokinesis]” he added.
“Ha! Just watch me bro, it won’t even take me a minute, besides it’s about the pride of a dragon now!”
Completely ignoring what Sam said, Drake walked towards the table on which the creature was lying lifeless.
“Drake Dragonheart!” Drake flipped his neck long hair and introduced himself to the professor with an arrogant look.
The professor scoffed internally and signaled him to proceed.
“Ahh boy…” The blond girl who was sitting beside Drake sighed lightly.
“Maybe he can do it” Kiara, who was sitting just a seat in front of the couple spoke while shrugging her shoulder.
“An [A] rank… I’m not underestimating Drake’s ability but that’s way out of his league, dead or alive it will be hard for him to burn that corpse with just basic moves.” Anthony, who was sitting beside Kiara, commented.
“True…” Robin replied with a wary voice.
(You think she remembers?)
‘No’ Sam replied to the voice in his head as he stole a glance at Kiara.
He then shortly eyed Rebekah, who was sitting far away from their group, before quickly returning his eyes to Drake.
‘I think she made her forget’
(She can do that?!)
‘Who knows? There’s so much I have yet to know about this fuckin family…’
“Ablaze” as soon as Drake spoke, tendrils of fire started emerging from his hand.
Like a karate chop, the red-haired boy struck the lifeless body of the wolf-like creature.
However, contrary to what he had imagined, which was the creature getting split in half, nothing happened.
“Fufufu”
“Hehehe”
The whole class tried their best to suppress the laughs but it was impossible for them to do so.
Mighty Dragonheart family. Their fire can even split oceans in half. And here he was, the next generation master of the family of dragons. Unable to even cut open a dead beast with his fire.
Drake’s face turned red. In embarrassment or in anger, no one knew.
“Elderfire!” He shouted as he stretched his hand over the dead creature.
A fireball manifested over his open palm before its shape turned into something else. A dragon.
A small one though, not as big as on the day of the entrance exam. With a wingspan of 3 meters and a body length of 1 meter, the dragon let out a mighty roar.
“Roaaaaaaaar!”
“Are you fucking kidding me?!” One of the students shouted in the reticule.
Everyone was in disbelief too.
Elderfire was the signature move of the mighty Dragonheart family.
A dragon purely made of fire. It is said that the first Dragonheart almost defeated the Progenitor with this move once.
It was a sign of destruction. A call of demolition.
And he’s using his family legacy for this?! The absurdity.
“Stop it!”
“Are you insane?!”
Few students tried to stop him but it looked like the red-haired boy has already past the point of reasoning.
The professor said nothing. He just smiled and flicked his fingers.
Instantly a semi-translucent barrier was manifested around the red-haired boy.
“Go ahead, this will be more than enough to absorb any impact.”
As soon as the professor gave him the green light, the dragon roared once again.
“Roaaaaaaaaaaar!”
After a loud ground-shaking roar, the dragon spread its wings and bit the creature’s carcass.
…Nothing happened.
After a few seconds, one of the students was about to open her mouth when-
-BOOM!
A loud explosion sound reverberated throughout the class as the round barrier that was made around Drake now looked like a ball of fire, like a dull sun.
Even though they were outside the barrier, they could feel the heat. In fact, the temperature rose so much that most of them started to sweat even though the air conditioning was working fine.
Robin got up from her seat in worry but the professor just gestured her to sit back down.
“He’s fine Robin,” Anthony said, his crystal-like golden eyes were glowing with a bright golden hue.
After a few minutes of disbelief and anxiety, the fire inside the barrier started to subside.
It was all black smoke now that was blocking the vision. The bald professor snapped his finger and the barrier disappeared into thin air, releasing all the black fog that was inside.
Few of the students instantly got up to open the windows. However, when the smoke cleared, they were left stupefied.
Even Drake who had all of his upper clothes burned stood there with eyes widened in disbelief.
The creature that should’ve been burned to ashes, laid there, lifeless on the ground just fine.
The table was gone, even the floor underneath his feet, which was supposedly made from the strongest reinforced steel was blackened. Yet the carcass was just fine.
“Nice abs,” the professor commented jokingly.
Drake felt a shiver down his spine as he took a few steps back, “I’m into girls!” he squealed.
“Hahaha! Sure, go get a change of clothes from the boys changing room.”
Drake stood there for a few seconds as he looked down at the dead body of the creature before letting out a deeply saddened sigh and walking out of the class.
“Anyone else?” The professor smirked.
All the young masters and mistresses who were acting all high and might just a few minutes ago now had their heads down.
“Good, now then shall we begin? Where was I?”
‘That was surprising!’ Sam commented.
(I know right! Imagine how strong the beast would’ve been when alive!)
‘Indeed… hey I’ve got an idea!’
(Yeah?)
‘You know I can shapeshift right? So how about I try shapeshifting into a beast!’
(That can work yeah, you will need their genetic material though.)
‘Kay, let’s try once we get a chance!’
“Can you hear me?”
Sam heard a voice coming from his elbow side. He turned his head to the side but no one seemed to notice it.
‘Huh? Was it my imagination?’ Thinking this he turned his head back to the professor who was back on his lecture by now.
“Not there, here!”
Sam flicked his head to his side. Everyone was now serious and busy taking notes. No one seemed to notice anything.
“Am I finally going insane?” He whispered to, particularly no one.
(No I heard that too!)
“Not there, look here!”
Sam frowned his eyebrows before slowly turning his head towards a certain direction.
“There you go!”
With a worn-out expression, Sam let out a deep sigh.
“This is one-way telepathy. Meet me at the terrace after this.”
Rebekah spoke to Sam directly through his mind.
“Or else…” She added with a wicked smirk on her angelic face.
