Villain Is Bodyguard of Heroine’s Poisonous Stepmother

Chapter 132: The Destruction of the Wang Family

Chapter 132: The Destruction of the Wang Family

Shrouded in secrecy, Zero arrived at the Wang family’s villa.

“Hey, what are you doing here? This area is off-limits.”

The gatekeeper of the Wang family tried to stop Zero, but the emotionless gaze from Zero startled him. Suddenly, a gun was pressed to his head.

“Bro… brother, let’s not be hasty.”

With a loud bang, a close-range shot executed the gatekeeper, making him the first unfortunate victim of Zero’s mission. Kicking open the door of the Wang family villa, Zero made his way inside, firing his gun with masterful accuracy.

“What’s going on? What’s that noise outside?” Wang Hong came out of the study and asked the butler.

“It’s terrible, sir. Someone’s broken in with a gun, and the guards are dead,” the butler reported to Wang Hong, visibly shaken.

Wang Hong doubted his ears until the gunfire neared, his face turning grim. He rushed to his bedroom to retrieve the handgun he had hidden away.

The Wang family had many bodyguards, especially after the previous assassination of the old patriarch. Wang Hong had specifically hired numerous guards for their protection.

However, against Zero, these bodyguards were merely sitting ducks. They stood no chance without weapons to defend themselves against Zero. Even for a prominent family like the Wangs, arming their bodyguards wasn’t a trivial matter.

Wang Hong walked out with his hidden gun and found the butler lifeless on the ground, and not a single guard was left alive.

As he stepped out, he felt the hot barrel of a gun against his forehead, causing Wang Hong to drop his gun.

“Who are y–”

Bang!

Those were the last words uttered by Wang Hong, as Zero, merciless and direct, was solely focused on fulfilling Chen Luo’s mission and had no time for idle chatter with Wang Hong. His singular objective was assassination, targeting the Wang family.

After departing the villa, Zero set out to locate other Wang family members.

Wang Hong’s younger brother and cousins, not present at the villa, might survive if they were outside Magic City. However, any Wang family member within Magic City stood no chance against Zero’s pursuit.

Zero’s brazen spree of killings was bound to draw attention.

The police force of Magic City, though not idle, was nonetheless a step behind. By the time they encircled Zero, he had already dispatched most Wang family members in the city. Only those who had left Magic City to develop elsewhere were fortunate enough to survive.

“Drop your weapon and surrender now!”

The police chief, filled with rage, was acutely aware of the gravity of the situation. The victims were no ordinary individuals but members of the Wang family, including Wang Hong himself. This was far from a trivial matter. He knew his position was at risk and that catching the murderer could mitigate some of his responsibility.

Zero stepped out of the room with a calm demeanor.

Had there been additional targets, he might have embarked on a dramatic escape. But with his mission completed, there was no need. Following Chen Luo’s instructions, after completing the mission, Zero could end his own life. Hence, with the gun against his temple, Zero fired, and his body collapsed to the ground.

“Chief, he has committed suicide.”

“Bring his body back,” ordered the chief, his expression grave. He had hoped to capture the assassin alive.

It was clear to anyone that this was a deliberate strike against the Wang family. Even though the assassin was dead, there could still be someone behind the scenes directing the operation. Alive, there might have been a chance for interrogation, but with his death, that possibility evaporated. The hope now lay in finding some clue on the assassin himself.

The assassination and consequent death of the Wang family’s direct descendants, one of the four major families of Magic City, quickly became the talk of the town, shaking the very foundations of the city.

Nobody had foreseen such a fate for the Wang family, with a lone assassin managing to exterminate the entire lineage. Zero had, in less than half a day, killed a total of eighty-seven people, including the Wang family’s hired bodyguards.

“Such strength, it’s a bit of a pity to waste it,” Zhao Yingxuan lamented the loss of Zero, considering the difficulty in cultivating such a powerful asset.

“Not a pity at all,” Chen Luo disagreed.

The gains from sacrificing Zero far outweighed the loss. Spending 300 million to obliterate the Wang family was a negligible price to pay.

While 300 million might have seemed significant to Chen Luo in the past, it now represented a mere fraction of his resources.

Zhao Yingxuan might find it regrettable due to the challenge of developing such an individual, but for Chen Luo, acquiring such operatives was easy. Besides, with Zero’s life expectancy capped at a week, his death was sure. Sooner or later, his death had no consequence his death made no difference to him as he lacked emotions.

“With the Wang family gone, it’s time to move on their assets.”

Chen Luo instructed Xiao Qingxue and Bai Meixiang to act swiftly, aiming to carve out the best pieces from the fallen giant that was the Wang family.

“I also need to get busy.”

Zhao Yingxuan didn’t want to miss out on the chance to carve up the spoils, thinking that everyone now wanted to feast on the Wang family’s remains.

“We can take over some of the Wang family’s malls and supermarkets.”

The Wang family was involved in numerous industries, but their death meant that the more industries they had, the happier their competitors became. Even the Xie, Li, and Luo families, also among the four major families, seized the opportunity to absorb the Wang family’s assets.

Who would pass up on such a juicy morsel served on a silver platter?

If you don’t partake, someone else surely will.

The collapse of the Wang family turned out to be a windfall for many smaller families in Magic City, as the fall of this colossal elephant fed many.

However, not everyone was happy about the Wang family’s fall, such as the Li family.

Though the Li family was feasting on the Wang family’s corpse as well, Li Zhong did not wish for their downfall since the Wang family could have helped the Li family against the Luo family. Now with the Wang family eliminated, the Luo family no longer had to worry about them and could target the Li family without any reservations.

Ye Chen, the protagonist, also didn’t want the Wang family’s death. The Wang family had been a supporter of Ye Chen, and without them, he lost a significant ally.

“Who do you think is most likely behind the downfall of the Wang family?” Li Zhong asked of Ye Chen.

Now the Li family and Ye Chen were in the same boat. Even if Li Zhong had reservations about Ye Chen, he would still consult on certain matters.

“It has to be Chen Luo, definitely his work.”

Ye Chen was absolutely certain that Chen Luo orchestrated the Wang family’s destruction, but there was no evidence, and the perpetrator was already dead.

Many pursued the mastermind behind the scenes, but without leads, the one who annihilated the Wang family seemed to have materialized out of nowhere.

“Do you suspect Chen Luo just because of your hatred for him?” Li Zhong asked, his eyebrows deeply furrowed.

Li Zhong didn’t believe Chen Luo was capable of such a deed. He felt this incident wasn’t Chen Luo’s doing.

“My suspicion of Chen Luo isn’t just based on my personal hate for him. Apart from him, I can’t think of anyone else who could dispatch such formidable individuals.”

Masters were not common. Although Ye Chen had previously encountered many powerful figures, their strength paled in comparison to his, which had always been a point of pride for Ye Chen. However, Chen Luo seemed to have found several individuals who were not weaker than him, including Ah Da and the two women by his side.

If Chen Luo could recruit another powerful individual to obliterate the Wang family, that scenario was not implausible.

Li Zhong’s brows were tightly knitted. If it truly was Chen Luo’s doing, and if he were to employ the same strategy against the Li family, could they withstand it?

“We must try to find something to leverage against Chen Luo.”

The thought of Chen Luo potentially using the same tactic against the Li family tightened Li Zhong’s chest. They needed to find a way to neutralize Chen Luo urgently.
