Chapter 60
Chapter 60 - Eight-star
Lin Rou'er walked with Ye Hao out of the hospital ward and whispered, “I'll have May take you home.”
“Alright,” Ye Hao replied, not one to make a fuss.
?Lin Tu resided in a sanatorium reserved for the wealthy, hence its location away from the bustling city center.
Ye Hao had just been pondering his return journey.
As Ye Hao and Lin Rou'er made their way to the parking lot, a nurse pushing a cart approached them.
Lin Rou'er gave the nurse a brief glance before looking away.
She seemed to be just an ordinary nurse.
But Ye Hao's eyes narrowed slightly, and he quickly moved Lin Rou'er behind him.
Lin Rou'er's face showed immediate concern.
“How did you get in here?” Ye Hao demanded, his voice stern.
The nurse stared at Ye Hao, confused. “What are you talking about?”
Suddenly, a dagger materialized in her hand and she thrust it at Ye Hao without a moment's delay.
The nurse leaped to Ye Hao's side in a blink.
May, witnessing the scene, let out a piercing scream.
As the dagger neared Ye Hao's heart, he deftly caught it between two fingers.
The nurse's face contorted in shock.
That was her gut reaction.
Biluo was well aware of the strength and speed of her attack; few in the organization could evade her, yet Ye Hao had effortlessly caught her dagger.
An assassin who fails to eliminate their target must flee at once.
Ye Hao gave a cold snort and reached for Biluo's wrist.
?Biluo backed away, but her speed was no match for his.
With ease, Ye Hao seized Biluo's wrist.
“Why choose the life of an assassin?” Ye Hao asked, locking eyes with Biluo.
Biluo responded with a cold sneer, her gaze shifting to Lin Rou'er behind Ye Hao.
Instinctively, Ye Hao turned to look.
In that split second, he sensed an intense threat.
A poisoned needle sprang from the ring on Biluo's hand.
Ye Hao quickly released Biluo's wrist and, with a swift punch, obliterated the incoming needle.
By then, Biluo had already retreated over ten meters away.
“You've been poisoned,” Biluo declared, staring at Ye Hao. “Just wait for death to come.”
As Ye Hao was about to pursue Biluo, she conjured a spherical object in her hand. With a swift motion, she hurled it to the ground ahead, and a thick cloud of smoke instantly obstructed Ye Hao's path.
Choosing not to chase her recklessly, Ye Hao escorted Lin Rou'er away from the vicinity.
The assassination attempt infuriated the sanatorium's director, who promptly relieved the head of security from his duties. Without delay, he secured the services of a top-level security team from within the country.
“Exactly who has the Lin family managed to upset?” Ye Hao inquired, turning to Lin Rou'er. “First, there was an attempt on your grandfather's life, and now, you've been targeted.”
“As the Lin family has expanded its reach, we've inevitably encroached upon the interests of many,” Lin Rou'er explained after a moment of silence. “Throughout the years, I've survived countless assassination attempts.”
?Ye Hao felt a wave of compassion as Lin Rou'er recounted her experiences with a disconcerting calmness. Most people go through life without ever facing a single assassination attempt, yet here was a young woman in her twenties who had endured dozens.
“If you ever need assistance, don't hesitate to call me,” Ye Hao offered gently.
Lin Rou'er glanced at Ye Hao and nodded in acknowledgment before saying, “I'm heading back now.”
?This time, Lin Rou'er did not accompany Ye Hao on his departure.
Once Ye Hao had left, Xiaolan joined Lin Rou'er.
“Did you find out who's responsible?” she asked.
“It was the work of Yama, the seventh-ranked killer organization globally,” Xiaolan replied gravely. “Their motto is chilling: ‘If Yama decrees your death at three, who would dare keep you alive till five?' Few have ever survived being marked by Yama.”
?”They must be quite determined to go to such lengths.”
“With Yama's failure this time, they'll likely send an even more formidable assassin next,” Xiaolan expressed with concern.
Observing Xiaolan's troubled demeanor, Lin Rou'er questioned, “Are you not confident you can deal with them?”
“I can't say I'm entirely sure,” Xiaolan admitted after a brief pause.
“You've spoken of your senior sister before, Xue Yunyun.”
“Xue Yunyun is in the midst of a breakthrough to the nine-star level. She won't leave her retreat until she's succeeded,” Xiaolan explained, shaking her head.
Lin Rou'er pondered for a moment before asking, “What's your assessment of Ye Hao's combat abilities?”
“Ye Hao's combat strength might have reached eight-star level,” Xiaolan said, her voice heavy with gravity when she spoke of Ye Hao.
“Does that mean he's stronger than you?” Lin Rou'er was taken aback by Ye Hao's formidable power.
Xiaolan had attained a seven-star ranking.
One shouldn't underestimate the seven-star level; it was already an impressive achievement.
Many martial artists spend their entire lives without breaking through to this level.
Xiaolan nodded in agreement.
Lin Rou'er fell into a contemplative silence.
After a while, she turned to May and instructed, “May, reserve a private room at the Emerald Quest Hotel for tomorrow noon. I'm going to treat Ye Hao to lunch.”
“I'm heading out,” Ye Hao announced to Lin Rou'er's bodyguard who had escorted him back, then he opened the car door.
Once back at school, Ye Hao reached into his pocket and realized his phone was still with Tang Pianpian.
He borrowed a phone from a fellow student to dial his own number, only to discover it was switched off.
?His phone had run out of battery!
After a moment's thought, Ye Hao headed to his dormitory.
Zheng Xiaolong would likely have Tang Pianpian's contact details.
“Ye Hao, where have you been?” Yuan Gaoxing inquired as Ye Hao entered the room.
“I was tied up with something,” Ye Hao replied, then turned to Zheng Xiaolong. “Xiaolong, do you have Tang Pianpian's phone number?”
Ye Hao's question stunned everyone in the dorm.
Zheng Xiaolong, with an exaggerated tone, teased, “Aren't you content with having Zhang Lan?”
Ye Hao brushed Zheng Xiaolong aside. “I need to speak with Tang Pianpian about something.”
“What could you possibly need to do?”
“Do you have her contact or not?”
“I do. But I'd advise against calling her.”
“Why's that?”
“Tang Pianpian has already blocked hundreds of nuisance calls.”
“Just lend me your phone.”
“What are you planning?”
“I need to call Tang Pianpian.”
“Can we please be serious?”
“Who's joking? Tang Pianpian has my phone. If I don't use yours to call her, whose should I use?”
“What?” exclaimed Zheng Xiaolong, his eyes widening in disbelief. “Tang Pianpian has your phone?”
