Chapter 36: Ta-ta Kita!!
Chapter 36: Ta-ta Kita!!
"Assassin, assassin?"
Walking down the mountain, Kirei became particularly attentive to the surroundings after realizing that their Assassin had accidentally been detected by the target they were tracking. To be honest, Kirei didn't feel surprised at all that their own Servant, who happened to be an Assassin, was so easily discovered. It was more like a habit, you could say.
But if possible, they wanted to avoid any confrontations. After all, Kirei wasn't very confident in their Assassin's abilities. Even the two formidable Servants from last night were effortlessly defeated by that cat alone. If it were their own Assassin, they probably wouldn't fare much better.
Therefore, Kirei had instructed Soji to keep a distance from Bai Song. However... before ten seconds had even passed, Kirei heard their own Servant's screams through the magical communication link. From that point on, no matter how much Kirei called out to Soji, they received no response whatsoever.
Kirei came to a halt, and the worst possible scenario crossed their mind. "Could it be that Assassin was defeated just like that...?"
Bai Song fell silent as he looked at the girl who had just crashed to the ground. When he turned the corner, he saw a girl wearing a bikini with what appeared to be rocket thrusters attached to her behind. Judging by her bizarre attire, she was undoubtedly a Servant who hadn't escaped.
When Bai Song first saw her, he felt his heart stop. Startled, he opened his mouth to call Tom for backup. However, before he could utter a word, the opposing Servant waved her hands and retreated while making strange noises. Finally, with a pale blue flame, she soared into the sky and collided perfectly with the balcony above.
And then... she ended up sprawled in front of Bai Song.
"Oh, well," Bai Song muttered as he looked at the girl lying on the ground in a frog-like posture and twitching. He reached out a hand towards her but hesitated, contemplating whether he should make a quick escape. He had been about to call for Tom in fear, but before he could, the opposing Servant had beaten him to it.
And then... it was over?
To be honest, Bai Song was feeling a bit bewildered by the whole situation.
"Ouch, ouch, ouch..." Just as Bai Song was considering whether to make a swift getaway, the girl on the ground finally showed some signs of movement. She pushed herself up with trembling hands and struggled to stand. However, due to her unstable balance, she immediately toppled backward and ended up sitting on the ground in the alley.
Seeing Soji rise, Bai Song hesitated for a moment and asked, "Are you okay?"
This "Are you okay?" wasn't just about the consequences of her recent actions, namely, hitting her head and falling to the ground. It was more about the fact that she had even performed such an action in the first place. Bai Song couldn't help but wonder about Soji's mental state. It was hard to imagine the current state of mind of this light-haired girl in front of him.
"I'm fine, th-thank you?" Rubbing her groggy head, Soji heard someone asking if she was okay. Subconsciously, she politely responded.
However, as soon as Soji finished speaking, she sensed that something was off. She lifted her head and realized that there was a man in front of her wearing a black hood over his head and a blue-and-white cat wrapped around his neck. That cat wasn't just any catit was the one that had effortlessly defeated the two powerful Servants earlier!
In that instant, Soji's expression immediately changed 180 degrees, and she was so frightened that she swiftly drew her weapon and swung it forward! Fortunately, Bai Song wasn't standing very close, so the blade narrowly missed him, creating a whooshing sound as it sliced through the air!
"Holy shit!"
Finally fully recovered from her dizziness, Soji didn't even bother to stand up. She used both her hands and feet to quickly retreat while sitting on the ground, swiftly moving backward until she reached the deepest part of the alley, with nowhere else to go!
"Don't come near me!!!" Soji shouted. With her back against the wall, she found herself cornered and forced into a state of extreme cowardice.
After uttering those words, realizing she had reached a dead end with the wall behind her, Soji, pushed to her limits and with no way to retreat, suddenly found herself filled with courage. Someone once said, though we don't know how great they were, that the best way to eliminate fear is to face it!
Soji stood up, her back against the wall. She reached out her right hand into empty space, and an ethereal blue-bladed katana instantly materialized in her hand. At the same time, the rocket thrusters behind her emitted a pale blue flame, causing her to levitate in mid-air.
Though panicking, with her opponent now trapped, surrendering directly wasn't an option. It would be too embarrassing for the Shinsengumi.
As per tradition, Tom extended his hands to gesture and confirm Soji's height. Seeing that this person was similar to the two defeated last night and much shorter than the first person he defeated, Tom became instantly confident.
However, Bai Song's confidence was entirely different from Tom's. He was eager to make a quick getaway. He had come to take a look only to prevent any possible pursuers, such as other Servants, and to know the location of his new hideout as soon as possible. He just wanted any potential Servants to back off and avoid getting involved in a fight.
If they were to really start fighting, he could already anticipate having to deal with the police's intervention afterward. Perhaps he was the only one in the entire Holy Grail War who had to worry about being pursued by the police.
"No need for more talk, Tom!" Bai Song exclaimed. In his state of panic, he made a dismissive gesture, and the power of the rocket thrusters behind Soji suddenly increased.
In an instant, propelled by the rocket thrusters, Soji sprinted towards Tom at an incredibly high speed. Just as they were about to make contact, Soji swung her blade towards Tom's neck, catching him off guard.
