Chapter 116 116: Pursuit
The sound of his foot fall hitting the forest was the only sound that Cole could hear. At the very moment he sorely wished he had his guns with him as they would have been a big help dealing with the darklings chasing after him. He skidded under a low hanging branch and leapt forwards, spearing an Ursaling as he stabbed his blade upwards into its throat before he crashed to the ground.
He rolled forwards with his momentum, Chitterlings landing on the ground behind him as he took two steps forward and used [Shadow Dance] to move forwards, grabbing another. Chitterling out of the air and using [Sin Eater] to top of his low reserves of energy. He turned a corner using the sheath of his sword to arrest his momentum as he turned and stabbed Black Malakai straight into the open mouth of a screeching chitterling, he huffed and turned away.
He immediately had to duck as an arrow came flying towards him, but it curved around his body and took a chitterling in the neck. Cole turned in time to see a woman on the branch of one of the trees. She had pure white wings on her ankles, was light skinned, and in that term Cole meant she was white, but she was paler than the norm and her eyes were blood red and serpentine…. But then again she had three of those eyes so the creep factor was a lot higher than he would have loved to admit.
"Are you going to remain there staring or would you move your bloody ass, there's just too many of them." Cole raised an eyebrow in response and turned around, using [Black Cut] to completely split an Ursaling in half. He lobbed a [Chaos Blast] in the direction of the still approaching crowds of darklings and took a running start before going up the tree she was crouched on, reaching the branch she was perched on 30nfeetnin the air in one leap.
She was startled, and it was enough that she almost fell over. Cole gave her closer look before having his eyes widened as he grabbed her and leapt off the branch, ignoring her startled screech of shock as the entire tree was completely obliterated. He used [Gravity] to control their descent as he turned around to see what had attacked them.
"dr-dra-DRAGON! Cassandra RUN!"
Another voice called out from a different direction. Cole looked up in time to see a terrified boy running away in the other direction. The now named Cassandra shoved Cole off her and took off running after her partner, not even looking back for once as Cole observed the creature that had attacked them.
It was a dragon alright, but it looked sickly, gaunt and weak with it's ribs poking out of this body. Perhaps at some point it's scales had been a vibrant green, but they were now mottled and dark filled with sickly looking blotches that seemed to be actively moving. But beyond that Cole could also see that there were parts of it that had the same qualities as darklings, but it had not been fully controlled by it. The dragon roared.
"Roooaaaarrrrrr."
That was all the motivation Cole need as he quickly slipped into [Spectral Rover] taking after the winged feet woman, catching up and overtaking her just as his skill ran it's duration. He threw a [Chaos Blast] behind, leaving it for a delayed a explosion that went off right underneath the belly of the massive beast, it roared once again, but this time in pain as the trees in front of Cole cleared and he saw that they were close to the Glade
But it was not just them who could see that they were almost or rather that they were out of trouble. The dragon noticed as dug it's heels into the ground as it threw it's head back. Cole could feel it, and not just feel it he could see the attack just before it was made. He stretched his hand out and grabbed the wings foot woman as he pulled all of his energy reserves and pushed it straight into defending them from the dragon as it unleashed a greenish black breath attack from it's mouth.
[Shadow Dance] [Gravity]
There was only one single shadow close enough to the Glade,. It even at that there was still some three meters to cross before they would be able to be in the Glade and completely out of trouble. They would not make it, which was why he used [Gravity] to create an extremely dense shield around himself and winged foot woman. The breath crashed into them, flinging Cole and her into the Glade whilst breaking through his shield and leaving him with an extremely massive and injury.
The rest of the breath attack splashed harmlessly against the shield as it faded to the side, and the Dragon rushed forward in anger, smashing itself again and again. It used it claws to scratch at the shield unleashing a screeching sound that caused the people within the Glade to his and cry out in pain.
The way the dragon kept hitting itself against the shield, again and again was literally peeling or carving off pieces of flesh off it. But it was manic, almost relentless in trying it's best to get through the shield. But much to the relief of everyone around, the shield held. It didn't take long for the dragon to get tired as it gave one last baleful glare at Cole before turning and walking back into the forest with a promise that it would most definitely be back.
Cole made his way up to his feet, ignoring the woman on the ground as he looked around the Glade, immediately laying his eyes on Xerxes99 and Thunderbolt-Jack. There were in different parts of the Glade, but Xerxes99 was amongst the midst of a ground of almost 20 people, and the moment Cole set his eyes on him, the man took three steps backwards and tripped over his own feet.
Thunderbolt-Jack could not even look Cole in the face as he turned away. Cole on the other hand began to hear whispers from everyone in the Glade. He looked down to see that his chest and the rest of his body was a terrible mess, a very terrible one indeed. But his healing factor and the passive healing the Glade offered. Cole had a lot to get off his chest, and he would, but first….. he had notifications to go through…. He would need the boost from the extra stats for what was to come.
