Chapter 74 - Murder
The waiter was sweating as he pushed himself up to his knees and pointed at the door, trying to catch his breath, "Outside. . . Outside - dead. . . There is a dead body!"
At once, the room exploded into gasps and screams as everyone began muttering amongst themselves. The sound of glass crashing onto the marble floor could be heard, and An Luxia also gasped as she instinctively moved over to Mo Han, grabbing onto his hand.
He looked back at her and smiled reassuringly before taking another sip of the sparkling champagne. An Luxia looked up at him a little confusedly, wondering why he didn't seem to be surprised or scared in the slightest.
Maybe it was because he was used to this kind of stuff already. . .
Qin Wei's dad and Qin Wei immediately rushed over to the worker, and Qin Wei's grandfather also slowly walked down from the front of the room with the help of the butler.
"What do you mean?!"
The waiter almost looked like he was going to faint as he said softly, "Outside. . . Body, knife, blood."
Qin Wei's dad furrowed his eyebrows together as he asked, "Where?"
"Back. . . Balcony, flowers."
At once, everyone began filing out of the room behind Qin Wei's father to go get a look at the drama, but Qin Wei's father quickly stopped them.
"Everyone, please remain calm," he said, although he wasn't very calm himself. However, everyone here today was of very high status, and he couldn't have the party go into complete chaos.
"I will go outside and take a look. Please stay inside and enjoy yourselves." Then, he turned around and left the room, ordering the guards at the door to shut the grand door so no one could leave.
After he left, no one enjoyed the party like he had told them to. Instead, everyone began talking frantically, some going to the door to try to leave.
Although all of these people might be rich and powerful, most of them were probably scared of death. After all, they were enjoying their lives right now. None of them wanted to die.
Qin Wei stood in place looking at the door for a while before he suddenly turned around with a frown, his eyes meeting Mo Han.
Mo Han grinned and lifted up his champagne glass, grinning softly as he tilted it towards him as if he was saying, 'Cheers!'
Upon seeing that, Qin Wei's pupils dilated slightly before he immediately walked over to them, pulling Mo Han over to the corner of the room.
An Luxia stayed at the table a few feet away, looking over at them curiously but not joining them.
Once they reached the edge of the wall, Qin Wei asked, "Did you do it?"
Mo Han grinned slightly, glancing over at An Luxia, who had resumed eating, before replying, "Yes."
Qin Wei couldn't hide the surprise in his eyes as he grabbed onto Mo Han's shoulder, "Why?! Who was it?"
Mo Han tilted his head slightly before finishing the whole glass of champagne in one gulp, "Hu Qi."
Qin Wei's eyes narrowed, "But -"
"He's target X."
At once, Qin Wei's mouth fell open, "How -" Realizing his tone was too loud, he nervously looked around to make sure no one was looking at them before continuing, "Really? How did you know?"
Mo Han gulped, leaning towards the wall, "Found out this morning."
"So that's why you decided to come," Qin Wei tilted his head up, finally understanding why the boring Mo Han would choose to come to a people-filled party he rarely ever attended.
"Mhm," Mo Han nodded, "Well, my wife did say she was bored, so that is also a reason."
Qin Wei rolled his eyes, not wanting to eat dog food, "But you could have chosen a better time? It is my grandfather's 80th birthday party, and by doing it now, there is no way the party would go on smoothly now."
Mo Han shrugged, "I tried not to, but he seemed like he would be leaving soon, so I had to make my shot quickly. And, I did it in the back of the mansion. I didn't think someone would find the body so soon."
Qin Wei furrowed his eyebrows together and sighed, "Okay, okay. I'm going to go look for my dad now."
Mo Han nodded and waved a quick goodbye to Qin Wei before going back to find his wife.
An Luxia turned around to look at him a little suspiciously, "What was that about?"
Mo Han grinned, "Nothing. Don't worry about it. Is the food good?"
An Luxia was a little confused on why Mo Han, who was not at all interested in the food earlier, was suddenly asking her whether the food was good. However, she still nodded and held up the plate of spaghetti, "Yes, do you want to try it."
While everyone was busy worrying about the incident that had just happened, An Luxia and Mo Han were busy talking about which dishes tasted good and which didn't.
Qin Wei walked out of the room and outside to the balcony. He made a turn and found his father and the butler standing in front of an unknown object, which was probably the dead body.
He walked over and looked down, immediately knitting his eyebrows together at the gory sight. The blood was leaking out of the wound straight on his chest, and it had created a large puddle around him already.
His eyes were still wide open in a way that suggested he was shocked and didn't even know himself how he had died.
"Who is it?" Qin Wei asked, pretending not to know.
"It looks like President Hu. Why would someone kill him?" Qin Wei's father crossed his arms together and took a step back to avoid getting any blood on his shoes, "Butler Li, did you call the police yet?"
Qin Wei immediately looked over at the butler in shock, clenching his fists together in hopes that he didn't call the police. However, the butler nodded, "Yes, sir. They should be here soon."
"Good."
Qin Wei gulped and hoped that Mo Han did a clean job before turning around, "Father, I'll return to the ballroom then. Grandpa should leave before the police come."
"Yes, do that."
Qin Wei nodded and left the sight, taking one last look at the dead body. He was target X. . . They had been searching for target X for almost a year now, but who knew that the target would actually be someone so close.
Target X had been known for doing illegal insider trading and also being a part of the black market, but he was very good in covering up everything he did so even the police couldn't find him for several years.
However, for the HLX, they could find him easily.
Inside the room, everyone had finally calmed down a little but many were still nervous as they would scan the room cautiously once in a while.
Qin Wei returned and walked over to his grandpa, talking to him quickly before leading him behind through an exit at the back of the room. When he returned, the old Qin master was gone.
After several minutes, there was a knock at the door before it was pushed open and several police officers stepped in, causing the room to explode again.
Everyone stepped away from the door in fear and began talking amongst themselves again. A few even began saying that they didn't do it.
An Luxia looked up at Mo Han to see that he had no reaction as he looked over at the police.
"Good evening, everyone. Sorry for interrupting the party. However, we have been reported that a murder had taken place here this evening. Please follow us to the police station for a quick interrogation. We need to investigate the murder site for any pieces of evidence. Thank you for your cooperation."
The police made everyone leave the room in a line and enter the police cars. On the way, a large majority of people tried to bribe the officers to avoid having to go to the police station, but of course, it didn't work.
---
Several hours later, Mo Han and An Luxia were finally able to leave the police station. The sky was already beginning to brighten as dawn arrived, taking away the darkness of the night before.
There were still several people in the police station waiting to be interrogated, as each interrogation took about ten minutes, some taking longer.
An Luxia and Mo Han's interrogation had taken almost 30 minutes since they were both people of average status, and it was quite suspicious why they would show up to the Qin family's birthday party.
When they had finally left, An Luxia was on the verge of falling asleep.
They entered the car and An Luxia immediately fell asleep as they finally drove back home. Mo Han felt pained as he watched her, leaning her head over onto her shoulder.
If he had known it would take this long, he would have not brought her over to the party.
When they finally returned home, Mo Han carried her into the house. As they walked up the stairs, An Luxia slowly blinked her eyes open.
When they reached the top of the stairs, An Luxia suddenly murmured softly, "Did you kill that person?"
