Chapter 352 - The Promise
Zaos failed in saving two important people to him, but he wouldn't fail again. He would die trying to succeed… The enemy was clear, and he just had to wait for the demon to show up eventually. Zaos will kill it because he knew that he would show up anyway, even though he would try to prevent his revival.
While Zaos was angry and sad, he realized that the problems of that world, all that suffering, had been caused by the demon god. The humans were guilty for letting their fear force them to do heinous things, but the demon had to pay for his share of the trouble caused as well.
"Are you ready to do this?" Zaos asked.
"Yes… I won't fail Ameria," Aleni said.
"In that case, wait for me outside the city with my horse," Zaos said. "I have to do something."
"What exactly?" Aleni asked.
"We can't let anyone realize that Milliendra might become the vessel to the demon god revival," Zaos replied. "So, I am going to cause havoc and make everyone think that I have gone mad, killed the Ameria, and kidnapped Milliendra."
"That isn't what Ameria asked you to do," Aleni said.
"Yes, but it is necessary," Zaos replied. "She needs to be protected from the hate and fear the power of the demon god brings, and I will protect her from that."
"Understood, I will wait for you in the lake where you first noticed my presence. Once you leave the castle, steal a horse," Aleni said. "I will need it to fool the pursuers."
"Understood," Zaos said, and then he headed toward Milliendra's cradle.
Zaos suddenly felt inadequate to hold such a frail and important kid in his arms. The feeling was even more complicated than when he held Tyra's daughter. Probably because she was much younger… Regardless, Zaos put on his backpack the armor that was supposed to protect his left side and also sheathed his sword. Now he will have to fight using one arm. Thanks to that, he recalled that he still had Guardian's Heart. Once Zaos slowly put Milliendra on his left arm, Zaos tried to draw Guardian's Heart, and for the first time, he succeeded.
"Now I am really feeling that every single thing that happened led me to this moment," Zaos said. "I won't fail you, I promise."
Fighting while carrying Milliendra will be hard, but even though Guardian's Heart was supposed to be weaker, Zaos felt much stronger holding the sword. Several things also confirmed that…
Your Sword Mastery has reached level 01.
Your Focus Mastery has reached level 01.
Your Protection Aura has reached level 01.
The system alerted Zaos of many things, but Zaos didn't have time to check them. They left the room, and then they immediately split up. While Zaos headed toward the throne room, Aleni headed in the opposite direction. Thanks to the cape, no one could see Milliendra on Zaos's left side, but even so, when he headed toward the exit, the guards guarding the door to the throne room attacked him anyway.
Zaos wondered if he should kill them or just knock them down. To make a point, it would be better to scare everyone that might want to get on his path. Still, Zaos didn't want to kill anyone while he was carrying Milliendra. Unfortunately, he wouldn't be able to do that if many enemies surrounded him.
When the enemies slashed their swords toward Zaos, he moved to the sides to escape their attacks and then stepped forward before turning around and hitting their napes with the hilt of his sword. They fell unconscious immediately.
"Hmm?" Zaos frowned when he noticed that his mana suddenly decreased even when he didn't use it.
Even though she was sleeping, it seemed that Milliendra still could drain mana from others. Zaos noticed that he would have to hurry on his research or she wouldn't be able to live a normal life…
When Zaos opened the door of the exit, he immediately attacked the neck of two guards that were guarding the place. However, the other two moved away and prepared to fight… However, before that, they shouted that someone had invaded the castle, and Zaos could feel many presences approaching.
"I suppose it can't be helped…" Zaos' expression darkened.
Before Zaos could get surrounded by too many enemies, he enhanced his sword and then swung, cutting the air. In the next moment, the two guards lost their heads. It didn't take long before Zaos could see dozens of royal guards coming from the front of the castle. As if that wasn't enough, Zaos also felt the presence of others coming from behind.
Once again, Zaos enhanced his sword with wind magic and then sent a powerful wave of energy toward the enemies in front of him. These guys were a bit smarter and had the chance to protect their necks, but their arms got cut in several places, and they began to bleed heavily. As for when the guards coming from behind were about to open the door, they were knocked down since Zaos kicked it with all his might.
Before anyone else could get on his way, Zaos headed toward the gates of the castle. Truth to be told, he considered saying goodbye to his mother since he wouldn't be able to return for many years. Still, in the end, he wasn't crazy enough to give the pursuers more time for them to reach him.
However, it seems that Zaos still will have to deal with some troubles before he can leave. As soon as he was in the middle of the garden, a carriage appeared, and a group of knights in their horses also showed up. Zaos could use one of those to escape, but then his expression darkened again when he saw Drannor leaving the carriage. No matter what happens, Zaos can't let Drannor see Milliendra. Otherwise, the power of the demon god will make him hate and wish to kill his own daughter… Zaos sharpened his resolve.. It was time to beat Drannor down without giving him the chance to do anything.
