Chapter 115: [War of the Two Worlds!]
Do you know the types of Fantasy Wars that take place in other worlds? There are many. Too many, in fact.
Sometimes it's between two races, sometimes two kingdoms, sometimes two worlds. Sometimes it's about destruction of the other world, other times it's for survival. Many times it's about just creating a dominance on others, and many times… it's to make sure their existence is not erased from the face of the world.
This particular war, also known as the War of the two worlds was one the most tragic yet strange war to be ever recorded in history. It's something that would be remembered for its landmark and the things followed more than the war itself. Things that will be followed would later change the entirety of the two worlds completely. But before that…
One may ask, why did this war start? It was partly because of the thirst to conquer new lands and partly because of trying to prevent the impending doom of one's own world.
The story goes a bit back in history. The holy humans, they were greedy, hence they wanted to take everything for themselves. And in the process, they even began taking the very source of power of their world for themselves. While it wasn't apparent at first, but as time passed, things became chaotic as the planet started withering from certain corners. By the time they noticed it was already too late to do anything.
The holy humans, scared, started looking for ways to prevent the destruction, but alas they were too weak to prevent what they had started. So instead, when they found a path to an alternate world, they decided to take that world as their own. Any way was acceptable as they needed to make sure to survive… they needed to make sure that their race continues to thrive in the universe. Even if their planet is no more.
It wasn't smooth but things were progressing. The conquest had begun, and the Holy King even made a deal with the Vampire King, to provide him with half the essence of their planet in exchange for lands that they had taken control over. Though to be fair, it was just some land that wasn't under the total jurisdiction of the vampire king.
In a way it was a win-win situation.
Alas, there was a certain factor that they didn't take into account. The otherworlders. The players from the towers.
They were far stronger than both the parties, they were far more crazy than both the sides. Something that both sides failed to assess. And hence both the kings were wiped days before the war even began. Most of their forces were gone with the interference of the corrupted ones.
And what was left was trying to make sure they exist in this dying world. Hence they gave it all to conquer whatever they could.
Still… a pity…
The players were present to stop the Holy Knights. As for the Vampires, even though there were many NPCs that were preparing for the war, they were merely civilians who had never fought in their lives before. So the least they could do is provide minimum support, but somehow even that was not necessary.
With how much Nora and Rosaliyah had wiped off the enemy forces, there wasn't anything left that could be called a threat anymore. Things were rather one sided as the players alone handled the enemies.
What was scary was that the players didn't do it for good or bad. There was no morale that could push them to choose between right or wrong. Instead, their ego was boosted with greed, they were trying their best to take as many strong cards as they could.
Whether it was the flying type wyvern, or the huge flying ship, nothing intimidated the players. While the previous lingering anxiety of war still remained, the strong enemies that probably held equally strong cards with them, became a bountiful target to hunt. The greed was enough to wash over that anxiety.
The only player who didn't participate in the War Directly was Adrian. He observed everything from the shadows, decreasing the powers of the NPCs using his [Game Master System!]. Walking around the entire area, he looked through the entire thing.
His map guided him through the entire battle, allowing him to look at the war through all the angles possible. And even though he could easily maneuver the direction of the battle, he decided not to. After all, the enemies weren't something that they needed to be totally worried about. They were barely D-Grade, with the front line made up of C and B-Grade enemies.
Strong but nothing out of reach.
While the players enjoyed this one sided massacre, the NPCs couldn't really. Whether it was the vampires or the holy humans, they were all terrified by the sheer power shown by the players.
The holy humans, who were directly opposing the players, were able to see the sheer madness in the player's eyes. They were greedy and cruel too but even then, this was something that they had never witnessed with their own eyes. For the first and last time, they understood how it felt like to be a target of hunting. They felt like lambs waiting to be slaughtered.
But yet… they cannot retreat anymore. Their world was more or less dead… going back there was confirmed death. And hence, they pushed forward. With a bitter smile on their faces, they began fighting with even more power than before, exhausting a part of their life force, bit by bit, killing the very thing that they were fighting for.
"For the HOLY EMPIRE!!!!"
"Run!!!"
"WE NEED TO FIGHT!!!"
"BROTHERS!!!"
"EVERYBODY ATTACK!"
"He is my skill card!"
"Hey! Why are you taking my prey?!"
"I marked him first!"
And the players… they couldn't care less about the conviction of the NPCs.
Speaking of NPCs, the vampires weren't faring well either. They could see what the holy humans were going through. And even though they liked what they were witnessing, they couldn't help but observe the behaviors of the players.
A chill ran down their spine as they realized that they could be the very next target. After all this war is over… will they be able to protect themselves against the players in case the players decide to attack them? Aren't they too just lambs waiting to be slaughtered one day, living under the mercy of the players?
"Are we… really going to be free?" One of the vampires asked the question in every NPCs mind. They didn't know what was going to happen to them next, they had no idea in which direction this victory would take them.
Though Adrian, he already had a plan for everything that was going to happen from now on. He had a clear plan for the future and what was going to happen from this point onwards.
'Protect everyone,' he mumbled the words of the other 'Adrian' before he looked at the NPCs. Even though this war was avoidable, it was necessary. Adrian could have easily moved towards the holy kingdom, made them submit to him, ending the war before it even started, but he didn't.
Partly this was because of how the holy humans had destroyed their own world without any concern, and partly was because of Adrian's plan to shift the rift from the Vampire's world to the holy human's world.
Since the holy human's world was mostly empty because of the destruction, once it was saved, it would be a perfect place for exploration for the players later on. With monsters and stuff, it would be like an extension of the first floor, a part of the first floor under Adrian's jurisdiction.
Hence, he made sure the war happens, and the holy humans will be forced to move in the vampire's world. Once the war ends, he will slowly force the other humans to this world and start finding a proper equilibrium for the two races to live together.
The idea was simple, and it can be executed with proper planning. Those two races won't work together under normal circumstances, but if players play the role of antagonist, they would surely join their hands to work together.
Still it wasn't totally possible without the agreement of the two god's help, along with the permission of Nora and Balthazar. Rosaliyah agreed to help Adrian see through everything in exchange to set up a base for the corrupted ones in this new world, which he agreed without much question asked.
The war continued for another 3 days, before the holy humans surrendered. The players were disappointed because of a sudden message telling them that they would bear a penalty if they hunted more NPCs. They all stopped with dejected faces.
As things came to a conclusion, everyone wondered what they should do next… but at that moment… as Adrian wanted, the Two Gods descended to the world together.
"Oh our dear vampires and humans… Just what have you done?" They spoke about what they have been practicing for the past few days.
While Adrian smiled as he looked at the piece of paper that contained the same words that the Gods were speaking. And then he looked at the rift that was connected to the Safe Zone.
'All right… this should be enough to start the next tutorial,' he mumbled as he began planning for the next phase of his plans.
Things were smooth, though the lingering feeling that Adrian had with {death} and the other Adrian still remained. Even though he could sense something big was going on, lack of information made him helpless.
The only thing he could do is to find more about the man whose traces are present all around the tower. Hopefully he will find something out at the very least…
"So much for a simple life," he mumbled before moving towards Nora who was observing everything from a distance.
