The Dungeon Conquerors: Journey to the Peak

After the night of birthday celebration was over, Rein and his two fiancees were planning to return to the academy to continue their study and research on magic. After the tough battle against a powerful monster, Lopas was feeling that it would not take her a long time to reach the next rank, so she was excited for that.

But before they could busy themselves with research, a letter appeared for Luna. According to that letter, her maternal cousin had fallen ill and they wanted to ask for her help in searching for a cure.

Luna's mother was just from a count family and even in the royal family she did not have much authority. Obviously her family was able to gain a lot of benefit because she was married to the king but in a situation like this where they needed some kind of help, asking Luna's mother was useless because she was a trapped bird inside a cage and had no authority to do anything.

For that reason, the family decided to ask for Luna's help. They were aware that Luna was engaged to Rein who had a close relationship with the Leonance duke family. So she had the capability to help them out.

But Rein was not like that. He did not want Luna to leave all her family members behind. And what they needed to do was not a big deal. The medicine that could cure her cousin was not a common one but it was also not something that was impossible to find.

For that reason Rein had a long talk with Luna and he was able to convince her that helping her family out in this situation was the right thing to do. It was not like they were going to help for free as with this help, the Dansi family would be indebted to the Leonance family who would be providing the medicine.

So after getting the medicine from Lopas' connection, Rein and his two lovers again left the capital to go to visit Luna's maternal house.

The city that the Dansi family ruled was called Itora. It was a decently large city which was famous for its textile and wine industry. As Rein and his two lovers were not old enough to try alcohol, they were not interested in that. But Rein definitely was a bit interested in finding a few good clothing for his sweet lovers.

Rein was planning to go straight to the Dansi mansion but his plan went off track when he felt the presence of a terrible mana. Mana had various nature depending on many factors. Normally a mana was in a neutral state most of the time but it could take other affinities depending on those factors.

The mana that Rein sensed after entering the city was terrible. The amount of this terrible mana present in the city was not that much and an active effort was been made to conceal its presence. Anyone who was below the 4th rank would have a very hard time finding this mana. Rein was able to find it so easily because he was a rank 5 mage.

After finding it, he was not able to turn an blind eye to it. This was definitely done by some kind of group with the intention of bringing harm to the city.

The appearance of the terrible mana here was not natural and extremely hard for any single mage to do as the strongest presence of mage he was feeling in the city was only rank 3. There were actually two such presences. One most probably belonged to the ancestor of the Dansi family and the other one was unknown.

There was a chance that someone was hiding in the city while concealing their mana but Rein did not worry about that too much. No matter how strong the mastermind behind this incident was, they would never be above Rein's rank. Rein was confident with this deduction because a rank 6 magus did not need to scheme to get what they desire. They were just too strong.

So Rein quickly told the girls about the situation and asked them to go to the mansion first. He would catch up with them after taking care of the situation. Lopas and Luna were a little bit worried about this but their belief in Rein was rock solid. So they just prayed for him and quickly went toward the mansion.

After separating from the girls, Rein started to quickly track down the sources of the terrible mana. With his searching he found four such sources and went to the nearest one first. This mana source was inside a small small general store.

Rein did not enter the general store and instead teleported himself directly beneath the underground area below the general store with his void affinity. In this hidden underground area, Rein found that quite a few thugs were guarding it. Most of them were regular humans but Rein was also able to find three unranked mages and one rank 1 mage.

This was actually a sizable combat force for any organisation. As even rank 1 mages could become nobles or could work for one and earn a lot of money, seeing mages working anywhere else was extremely rare. For that reason Rein was surprised by this.

This location was only one of the four areas where Rein was sensing the terrible mana so all the remaining there areas should also had a combat power like this. It was definitely very surprising if the mastermind behind all this was not a noble.

But Rein decided to not think too much about it. He quickly made all the people present in the area unconscious with a Truth affinity spell and then started checking the terrible mana.

After analysing it, Rein found out that the terrible mana was actually related to death or desolation affinity. All in all, it was something that regular humans should not come in contact with as it could hurt them badly.

As for the source of the mana, it was actually a book. Rein checked the book out and saw that it was titled "Downfall of Nature and Society IV". Rein became interested in it and started reading it.
