Chapter 284 Alexei
Chapter 284 Alexei
The Time God thought that he had helped Elise become immortal, but since there were exactly two people, Elise and the unborn child, only one of them truly became immortal when Elise drank the potion of immortality.
This was Dante's grave mistake.
Elise was dying because of him. She was still completely human and she wouldn't be able to give birth to her child who was a god or even live to see them. This was all of his fault and it gave Dante the biggest scare of his life.
The Time Master immediately approached the goddess and reached for her robes pleadingly.
"Please help me save Elise and the child. She has done nothing wrong at all and it is my fault that she's like this. Please do something, Eretrea! I beg of you!" Dante was sincerely hurt and miserable.
The goddess looked at Dante and averted her gaze away from him. Instead, Eretrea looked at her helpless descendant who was in complete pain. She felt mercy overcome her in that moment.
"Fine, I will do this only because this descendant of mine has not committed any mistakes," Eretrea spoke curtly. "I believe it is time for me to take my leave and retire from this world anyway."
Dante's eyes widened and he knew what the Earth goddess was speaking about. Among the immortals, there would be gods and others who had lived for so long that they do not wish to spend another day here alive.
Most of them would go to an eternal slumber and never wake up because they have grown weary of living for others and only wished to have peace. There were others who would leave this world and go to other realms, shedding away their immortality in the process.
"Elise?" Dante asked uncertainly and with a relief that still was dictated by nervousness. "Your baby is 13:29
born…"
"Goddess Eretrea…" Dante spoke slowly.
The goddess smiled and shook her head. "Do not make me change my mind because I've already come to a decision. I was going across the world to look for my inheritor, the one who'll take up my mantle and I have chosen Elise."
Elise who had been screaming earlier was now only silent with tears in her eyes. Every part and fiber of her being was being split and torn open to give birth to her child, but now she was looking at the goddess.
"Elise, you have suffered so much even for a mortal," Eretrea carefully placed a lock of Elise's hair behind her ear. "But now I will ask you to take even a heavier burden and take my place. You will live but now you will stay alive until the end of times."
Elise wept silently, uncomprehending what was taking place but suddenly a bright light filled the entire cave of the Time Master and blinded both Dante and her into seeing nothing but white light.
Once the light disappeared, Dante could see Elise finally change into that of a goddess. The already beautiful appearance of hers started to become more evident. Her hair started growing longer as a multitude of flowers and plants growing all around the cave.
More importantly, a baby was now lying among the flowers. It was a boy.
He was crying as loudly as he could and his voice pierced the heavens.
The Time Master immediately moved forward to pick the baby up and cradled it into his arms. Dante looked at Elise in relief and approached her. Eretrea was already long gone and had disappeared. Now, in her place, the new goddess was still confused.
"Elise?" Dante asked uncertainly and with a relief that still was dictated by nervousness. "Your baby is born…"
Elise still looked confused more than ever, the effects of the water of forgetfulness still in place but once she saw the baby in Dante's arms, the most beautiful smile crossed her features and she held out her arms to him.
"Ah, here you go." Dante found himself lovestruck once again as he carefully placed the baby in her arms. Even though Elise didn't recognize him, she seemed to know that the baby was hers. "Elise?"
A loving look was on Elise's face as she held the tiny hand of the baby, and it was the healthiest one that anybody could ever see. Somehow, gods gave birth to a baby that looked so cute and adorable and more mature than what mortals did.
The baby looked like it was at least seven months old in human years.
Dante realized how special the moment was between that of the mother and the child, and he felt a bit guilty but incredibly lucky to be able to witness this scene happen in front of him. He knew he didn't deserve this at all. However, he was happy.
"Alexandra…" Elise found herself saying words without even her knowing them consciously. She looked like in a state of awareness that knew so much and yet still knew so little at the same time.
"Um, it's a boy," Dante couldn't help but point out.
Elise's eyes lit up as she looked at the baby. It was as if, deep inside of her, there was something that reached out and put names and she lovingly whispered, "Alexei."
It was an incredibly happy moment and yet suddenly the expression on Elise's face changed and she winced in pain. Suddenly, Alexei was crying and as Dante moved fast to catch the baby from falling, Elise passed out.
Even as a goddess, the weariness of giving birth had overtaken the young woman.
Or it was because of her lack of awareness.
Dante was incredibly worried and knew that even as an immortal, the effects of wiping out her complete memories were still tantamount to removing an important aspect of Elise's character.
Elise was still the same person, deep inside of her, but with no memories surfacing on her mind, she was only the shell of the person that Dante loved and cared for.
It was only a miracle that she still managed to name her child, but after that moment, Elise would Slowly bidding strength until she could piece herself together once again.
once again go into a slumber of recovery.
