Chapter 89
89 Watching a horror movie
After examining his antique map like an expert Zi Feiji walked down the stairs with a complicated expression. His mind was still trying to figure out Marshal Yi’s true purpose that he didn’t immediately notice the situation in the lounge.
Sitting on the couch were two figures sharing a blanket with a bucket of popcorn while scrolling through a smaller floating screen trying to figure out what to watch.
That wasn’t even the highlight. They were both wearing onesies. One was a bear and the other a bunny with its ears flapping as her head moved. The old steward walked over with a tray full of snacks and said, “The miss and young sir have been arguing for ten minutes about what to watch. It seems the young sir wants to watch a horror movie to prove that he is now a big boy but the miss isn’t having it,” said the old steward with a joyous smile explaining the conflict in detail.
Zi Feiji shifted his gaze from the pair to the tray filled with lots of snacks. There were dried fruit, nuts, cookies two slushies, and even ice cream. Where on earth was all this food going to go? Old Lu noticed the master’s unusual expression so he raised the tray slightly and said, “They said it was for a better watching experience.”
Zi Feiji shook his head while checking the time. If they manage to finish eating all of this then one of them might have a tummy ache.
“Old Lu,” called out Zi Xingxi and the old steward ran over with the tray.
“Who ordered some ice cream?” he asked as he lay down the tray.
Zi Han took his hand out of the blanket and stretched it out while responding, “Me.... it was me. Thank you.”
Zi Feiji sat on the chair beside them and silently watched as Zi Han struggled to peel off the foil keeping him away from his treasure. After pulling and tugging for a while he watched Zi Xingxi silently grabbed the small tub of ice cream and opened it for him before giving it back.
.....
Zi Han smiled happily as he thanked her. Their interaction was so natural you would think they had done this several times before. He suddenly felt his grandson might be spoilt a little.
“So you two do this often?” he asked with one of his legs crossed over the other at the knees.
Zi Han licked the spoon before asking, “Do what?”
“Dress up in weird-looking pajamas and binge eat like it’s the end of the world?” asked Zi Feiji. When she was young, Zi Xingxi wouldn’t be caught dead hanging out with him unless it had something to do with mechs and training. In her teens, she was far worse but here she was actually hanging out with Zi Han watching movies.
Was it a him problem or Zi Xingxi’s. Before he could ponder deeply into this subject Zi Xingxi handed him a slushy and said, “You will like it. It’s cherry flavored.”
Zi Feiji didn’t intend on refusing. He accepted it and took a sip. It almost froze his brain instantly but he loved the flavor. Zi Han took advantage of the opportunity and tapped the horror movie he wanted to watch.
Soon the ominous sounds marking the beginning of a terrifying ghost story filled the room and the housekeeper robot naturally switched off the lights.
Zi Feiji found this funny. He couldn’t help but wonder if they did this when they stayed in Saarilia. He truly had missed out on a lot. Ten minutes later Zi Han found out how wrong he was. He was no big boy.
He didn’t fear anything but ghosts and it seemed his fear wasn’t cured as of yet. He sank into the blanket some more while eating his ice cream but Zi Xingxi wouldn’t let him go that easy.
“Didn’t you say you want to watch it?” she asked trying to pull the blanket that was half covering his eyes.
Zi Han clutched his protective blanket tightly while responding, “Yes, I am still watching,” in a low voice. He couldn’t give up now. His mother always stopped him from watching horror movies her reasoning being he was too young.
He wanted nothing more than to prove that he was a manly man now thus he refused the tear-free shampoo and now he was taking a stand to watch a horror movie.
But just like the shampoo thing where he was stung in the eye, he was also still afraid of that ghastly ghost opening its mouth wide like it was going to devour his soul. This baby was terrified half to death but he would never admit it.
Zi Feiji also noticed that his grandson was scared but if he cuddled him too much the consequences would be dire. If he wants to watch then let him watch it.
So for the next two hours, Zi Han endured the terror by hiding his face while watching through his parted fingers. They were occasional yelps coming from him during the jump scare scenes and he ate like crazy to soothe his nerves.
Not once did Zi Xingxi ask him to stop the movie. That’s because she had her own agenda. Since he wants to watch then let him watch.
After a dissatisfying ending Zi Han hastily got up and said, “Well off to bed.”
Zi Feiji, “.....”
Why the sudden hurry? Zi Xingxi wasn’t all surprised she calmly said, “Okay honey, Don’t forget to brush your teeth before bed.”
“Mhm mum, yep,” replied Zi Han almost tripping on the stairs as he ran.
Zi Feiji followed him with his eyes and asked, “Will he be fine?” Zi Xingxi who was folding the blanket suddenly chuckled like the evil queen in snow white.
“Wait for it... five,.... four,..... three,..... two,...,” she counted and before should say one Zi Han appeared on top of the stairs while saying,
“Ma, aren’t you coming?”
Zi Feiji, “.....”
“I am coming. Just go to bed,” she responded but Zi Han remained rooted on the spot. Zi Xingxi whispered to Zi Feiji, “He is terrified to sleep alone after that movie. The last time he snuck out of school and went to watch a scary movie with his friends, he clung to me like a koala.”
