Chapter 73 - As Easy As That?
Michael smiled sheepishly.
"I mean, the moment that I saw that they were stalling, something inside me had this line of thought.", he admitted.
"You should have told this before. You are absolutely right. I don't know why I hadn't thought of this before. She knew that Lucas didn't die then, so she sent a few people to kill him. When that didn't work, she tried to make it such that he would get so angry and out of control that Fenrir would take control of him. Then, she would be able to get Fenrir out of Lucas.", Praneeth said.
"Again, why are you not the bad guy? You are the one coming up with the more realistic plans than she is.", Lucas said.
"Either way, she wants to kill you, Lucas. We have to make sure that you are not going to die. We stick together.", Praneeth told everyone.
"Alright, alright. I just suggested this. I didn't think that all of you would make such a big deal out of all this.", Eva said.
"Lucas. Next time, don't be so rude to everyone else. What can you hear? Are there any people at all? You said that you heard heartbeats.", Praneeth asked him.
"I heard them when we arrived. But now, I am not so sure. Maybe they escaped while I was having some fun over there.", Lucas said.
"So no more heartbeats?", Praneeth asked.
"No more heartbeats.", Lucas shook his head.
They continued walking down the hallway until they stopped at the grey room from where they arrived.
"And we are back here. Why not just go home, call it a day, and do this all later? I mean, that should work. Breaking that magical barrier is going to be easy.", Lucas said.
"Now that your work is over, you just lost all the motivation to continue climbing, didn't you? But the situation here is actually very serious, so we cannot do that. You are our biggest weapon. We can't exactly let you go, can we?", Praneeth chuckled.
"Why not try every other door here, and see if there is someone behind it. I can hear and smell changes. I will know if there are sneak attacks.", Lucas said.
"Fine. Let us do that.", Praneeth said. "But you will be the one opening the door on every single one.", he smiled.
Lucas nodded. He turned around and stepped forward. There was a door right in front of him. He opened it.
Nothing happened. There was absolutely nothing. The door on the opposite side was completely sparse, and had nothing within it, except for grey walls. There weren't even any windows in the room.
"Well that was anticlimactic. Let us keep going.", Lucas sighed as he kept the door open, and moved on to the next door.
He moved to his left and opened the next door that came his way.
"Now this is at least a little more interesting. They put a speaker here. This was where I was getting all that chatter. They knew that I was going to listen to them, and they put this in.", Lucas smiled, but his eyes gave a whole different story.
Praneeth shook his head as he peeked into the room. There was a speaker in the middle, and there were grey walls surrounding the room.
"This is a Bluetooth speaker. No wires. We can't follow a wire for this one, but we might be able to follow a signal.", Praneeth said as he stepped forward towards the speaker.
"What did you say? Follow a signal? What are you? A goddamn hacker?", Lucas laughed.
"User name is kittyatethesun154. You might have heard it somewhere.", Praneeth smiled as he sat down next to the speaker and inspected it. It wasn't a big speaker by any means, and it had a small port at the side.
Praneeth reached into his pocket, and took out his phone, as well as a cable.
"You brought a cable? What did you come for? A vacation?", Lucas asked.
"My charging cable. The phone became a big part of my life, and I can't afford to let it die.", Praneeth said without any change in expression, and he connected his phone to the speaker.
He switched on a phone, and started typing on the phone furiously.
Green and black lights flashed from Praneeth's phone, and then, a white light flashed out.
"What happened? Are you done?", Lucas asked.
"Calm down pony. The phone was just booting. What are you getting all excited about?", Praneeth dismissed him.
"But you were typing on the phone so much.
"That? I was just tapping the screen.", Praneeth said.
"My life is a lie.", Lucas murmured as he went to the side.
Praneeth did not slack. After his phone booted up, he opened an app of some sorts, and started connecting to the speaker.
After a few minutes,
"Now I am done. The signal is coming from the second door to our right. There might be people there, so we should not be relaxed.", Praneeth warned.
"We know, we know.", Lucas said as he left the room and went to the room that Praneeth described.
His hands were on the knob.
"Wait for us.", Michael called out as he walked over.
Lucas did not turn the knob immediately. He knit his eyebrows and put his ears to the door.
"Nothing. I don't hear anything. Except for a fan, of course. Something is turning inside, but it sure as hell isn't a living and breathing person.", Lucas guaranteed.
"Let us move in.", Praneeth said.
Lucas nodded as he turned the knob and swing the door open.
Lucas' eyes widened.
"You have got to be kidding me. That is it? As easy as that?", Lucas exclaimed.
"What happened?", Praneeth asked as he moved towards the door to peek in.
"The portal is here.", Lucas said.
