Chapter 35 - Papa Midnite
By the time they got to Papa Midnite's bar, Club Midnight, they knew that they were a tad too late. Sirens rang out everywhere and Michael looked at the scene with eyes wide open. He was aghast at the scene. Getting off the car, he rushed into the bar, only to be stopped by a man in a uniform.
"Sorry sir, but this is a crime scene and it is very dangerous here.", the police said.
"What happened here?", Michael asked.
"We are still canvassing sir, but these are details of an ongoing investigation and we cannot tell you.", the police officer shook his head.
"I have friends in here. Did anyone die? My friend owns this club.", Michael asked, desperate at this instant looking for any sort of answer that could help him out.
"You know the owner? Well you better help us. That man was just trembling with his hands on his head and just mumbling something. We could use your help to get some information out of him. I mean, all the people here are just talking about some wolf going on a rampage or something. This club must have had some hallucinogens or something, cause none of the people in the club are sane anymore.", the police officer pointed towards an ambulance where a man was sitting.
He had a shawl around him, and he was, just like the officer said, mumbling something. With his superhuman hearing, however, Michael could make out exactly what Papa Midnite was saying.
"The red wolf has completely awakened. The world is going to end. The world is going to end.", he was rambling.
Michael went over to Papa Midnite and bent over to look at his face. He was wearing shades, but Michael could see that beneath those glasses were the eyes of a terrified man.
"Midnite. What happened? Did Lucas come here? What did you tell him?", Michael asked him.
"Michael?", Papa Midnite looked forward to see Michael's face. "Michael! Disaster struck. He is completely awake. I mean completely. Lucas could not control his rage when he saw my room. Fenrir almost killed me, Michael. I thought that it was your council's duty to protect us.", the black skinned man looked down again and started mumbling something.
"What did you tell him? Did he ask you where the Marquess lived?", Michael asked.
"The Marquess? Yes, he asked me where that old hag lived. I told him where she lived. But could he leave me? No no no, he just had to see my prized Odin Statue.
"You are alive right? That's all that matters. Now where the hell does she live? I need to know. We need to be there so that he doesn't rampage like he did here.", Michael asked him. Papa Midnite did not respond.
"Where the hell does she live!?", Micahel asked, his voice raised as he held Papa Midnite's collar and raised him above the ground.
"Hey there! Stop. Put your hands in the air and step away from the man.", the police around him raised their guns towards him. Michael saw this and shook his head. He put Midnite back on the ground and backed away with his hands in the air.
"You are out of here. If anyone knew that I was the one who sent you in, my job will be on the line.", the police officer that Michael spoke to first grabbed Michael by the collar and dragged him away out of the crime scene.
Michael didn't say anything. His eyes were fixated on Papa Midnite. His mouth moved slightly, and Michael's mouth curled up to a smile.
"Sorry officer. I got what I need. My friend does not know anything, he must have been under the influence of a drug or something, just like you said.", Michael said as he backed away and went back into the car.
"So? Did you find anything? Anyone dead?", Arthur asked.
"No one died. Thank god for that. Anyway, Lucas will be headed towards The Marquess' lair on the second avenue and forty second street. Not sure what's there, but we will see, won't we.", Micahel said.
"Let's just hope that we aren't late like we were here."., Arthur said as he drove forward.
"Let's just hope.", Michael sighed.
