Chapter 367 I was dragged into it
As the elemental forces bore down on Jaegar, he gritted his teeth, his fists clenching tightly. The purple mist of chaos that surrounded him trembled, responding to his intense concentration. The clash of their powers sent shockwaves through the grand hall, causing a slight but noticeable tremor that rippled through the ancient stones.
Oceana, the head of the Coven, watched the display with a mix of surprise and grudging admiration. A faint smile played at the corners of her lips, acknowledging that Jaegar was indeed capable of withstanding her formidable assault.
Taking a step forward, Oceana intensified her magical pressure. Her voice, cold and authoritative, cut through the cacophony of magical energies. "Just because you wield a power of chaos doesn't mean you are above all. You are just a fragment, but nothing more or less."
Her eyes narrowed, focusing on the faint traces of purple mist rotating around Jaegar. There was something familiar about that power, something that stirred old memories and older concerns.
"Your mother," Oceana continued, her words laden with hidden meaning, "she was a great woman blessed with unlimited potential. Sadly, she couldn't achieve what she meant to. Why? It's because of a single man."
The mention of his mother caught Jaegar off guard, a flicker of emotion passing across his face before he could suppress it.Nôv(el)B\\jnn
Oceana, noticing this weakness, pressed on.
"Now, you. You also destroyed what we have been protecting all these years. You used our master for your benefits, and as if that's not enough, you come here again. You enter the most forbidden grounds of the spire." Her voice rose, filled with barely contained anger. "Tell me, what should I do with you?"
Jaegar tried to respond, but the words caught in his throat. The magical pressure Oceana was exerting was immense, making it difficult for him to even breathe, let alone speak.
Seeing his struggle, and curious to hear what he had to say for himself, Oceana slightly eased her oppressive magic. The relief was immediate but temporary.
Jaegar gasped, drawing in deep breaths as sweat poured down his face. Jaegar didn't think that she would outright show such killing intent towards him. All this while, he had been encountering individuals who were not so strong and powerful like the people he was meeting now.
Just a few days before, he met Sovereign and now she. It only made Jaegar understand the need to grow stronger, and the desire to grow stronger burnt even more fiercely.
When he finally spoke, his voice was hoarse, but his words were clear. "First of all, I didn't ask her to take me in. And second, I am not opposed to her being your head of coven."
He paused, gathering strength for his next words. "Let me be clear here: I didn't have a choice in any of this. I was dragged into it."
Oceana's expression remained impassive. "Nonetheless, it all happened because of you."
Jaegar's brow furrowed in frustration. How had this woman become the head of the Coven? She seemed unwilling to reason, determined to lay all blame at his feet regardless of the circumstances.
"Tell me now and answer me truthfully," Oceana demanded, voicing the question that had been on everyone's mind since Jaegar's unexpected appearance. "How did you enter the forbidden underground labyrinth?"
Jaegar could feel the weight of every gaze in the hall upon him. The tension in the air was palpable as they waited for his response. "Like I said," he repeated, his voice strained but firm, "I was dragged against my own will."
His words were met with skepticism.
Oceana's expression darkened, and the other women in the hall exchanged knowing glances. It was clear that Jaegar's explanation was far from satisfactory.
"You are making this difficult for yourself," Oceana stated, her tone ominous.
Without warning, she resumed her magical oppression, this time with even greater intensity. Her power, focused and precise, aimed directly at Jaegar's soul, attempting to crush his very essence.
Jaegar fought back with everything he had. The chaos art swirled around him, a purple maelstrom of defiance. Deep within, he called upon the immemorial arts, ancient magics that lay dormant in his blood. Together, these forces helped him resist Oceana's assault, but even Jaegar knew it wouldn't be enough to hold out indefinitely.
As the magical duel intensified, the very air in the grand hall seemed to thicken. Sparks of energy crackled between Jaegar and Oceana, their wills locked in a battle that transcended mere physical combat.
The other witches watched in a mixture of awe, seeing how Jaegar was able to stand his ground against Oceana. Evanore and Yasmine, who knew Jaegar, were quietly baffled as well. Evanore, who had first hand experience of facing Jaegar, understood that he wasn't a simple wizard, but to stand against an archwitch was not an easy feat. Yasmine, on the other hand, was impressed by the sheer power of chaos Jaegar displayed in the face of such a formidable opponent.
Jaegar's mind raced, searching for a way out of this predicament. He knew he couldn't maintain his defence forever, but neither could he simply give in to Oceana's demands.
The truth of his arrival in the labyrinth was just like he said. He was dragged by the flame deity. But he wasn't sure to reveal about the existence of a deity in his mind. What the implications of being with a deity could bring, he could them guess already.
With the pressure increasing on him, he couldn't quite focus on his thoughts. Blood trickled down at the corner of his lips. The floor cracked beneath his feet, stretching by the very second.
Everyone in the hall shielded against themselves from the outburst, and they just watched in silence. They all, to some extent, agree with what Ocean had said.
At that time, suddenly the doors flung open and a figure entered the hall. As soon as they saw the one entering the hall, everyone stood up, and Oceana stepped back, withdrawing her aura.
