Chapter 719: 589: Emperor System, Spirit

Chapter 719: Chapter 589: Emperor System, Spirit

While Chu Mu handed the glory of the second tier to Ye Wansheng, everyone in World City knew that the extraordinary youth Chu Chen from Soul Hall was the ultimate recipient of the two glories.

Ye Wansheng was thick-skinned and did not feel embarrassed. His goal was to achieve his teacher’s will, and as long as he achieved that, he didn’t care about public opinion.

Of course, Ye Wansheng had made up his mind that after receiving his teacher’s will, he would start training intensively. Especially whenever he saw Chu Mu, the jealousy in his eyes clearly manifested. To avoid feeling incompetent the next time he met Chu Mu, he decided to fight hard.

Chu Mu didn’t know what Ye Qingzi and Ye Wansheng’s teacher’s will was about, but it was probably a priceless treasure. Ye Wansheng once stated that if he obtained his teacher’s will, he might become more formidable than Chu Mu in a few years.

This statement left Chu Mu quite astonished. After all, Ye Wansheng knew his real strength – for ordinary people, the disparity in strength only grew larger over time. So for a while, Chu Mu wasn’t sure if this brat was brazenly boasting or if he truly had something up his sleeve.

The two glories were announced at the same time, on the tenth day after the completion of the Tenth Realm.

After the battles ended, Chu Mu had ample rest, and the conditions of his other Soul Pets had also improved. The Collapsing Wind Dragon, after feasting for ten days, had put on weight, and its recovery ability appeared to be swift.

Except, Mo Ye, who had experienced continuous battles, seemed lethargic. When occasionally active, it stayed in Chu Lian’s state, sleepily sprawling on Chu Mu’s shoulder.

This left Chu Mu feeling quite puzzled. After morphing into the Emperor Level, Mo Ye seemed lazier than before, and indulged in idling around.

“What’s going on, Fox Elder?” Chu Mu asked.

“This is normal. Emperor-level Soul Pets are sleep-lovers. Didn’t I tell you before, they can’t recover their strength just by resting. They are incredibly powerful, which means they have a huge appetite. And, they are not satisfied with ordinary food. Firstly, the Soul Core is of no use to them,” said the Fox Elder.

“The Soul Core is of no use? Then what do they eat, Soul Crystals?” Chu Mu asked with wide eyes.

If a Soul Core, an eternal staple food for Soul Pets, becomes useless at the Emperor Level, what would happen if Emperor-level Soul Pets started eating Soul Crystals? One ninth-level soul crystal cost hundreds of millions, and a tenth-level one cost billions more. Given Mo Ye’s multiplicity of attributes, the price of Soul Crystals would further increase.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

“Haven’t you noticed that the so-called tenth-level Spirit Items, you probably start coming into contact with around the Monarch Level?” asked the Fox Elder with a wisened patronising air, stroking his wire-like beard as though preparing to teach a lesson.

His statement was indeed accurate. When Chu Mu was in the Intermediate Monarch state, he had started to encounter nine-level items. It is likely that by the time he reached Peak Monarch Level, he would be using tenth-level Spirit Items.

“It seems you understand. The division by ten levels applies only to the Emperor Level and below. The tenth level represents the high monarch, the peak monarch, including skills and their power. Typically, high monarch and peak monarch can use ten-level power skills. This applies to Mysterious Realms as well. Of course, ninth and tenth-level Mysterious Realms might give rise to species that could strengthen to Emperor Level,” the Fox Elder said.

“So, are there other divisions after the Emperor Level?” Chu Mu asked seriously.

“Naturally, the Emperor Level is much stronger than the Monarch Level. The so-called ten-level Spirit Items have little effect on strengthening Emperor Level Soul Pets. This includes Spirit Items that can accelerate the growth of Soul Pets. So the goods sold by the trading place and forces are almost not useful for you, they’re obsolete,” said the Fox Elder playing the sage.

Chu Mu looked at the old man and said, “What do you mean it is useless? Mo Ye is the only Soul Pet I own?”

“Ahem… I forgot, your other Soul Pets are still at a very low level. This level disparity is really large,” the Fox Elder spoke awkwardly, “Regardless, the goods defined by the ten-level structure are of little use to Mo Ye… Of course, ninth-level Soul Crystals and tenth-level Soul Crystals, reluctantly can serve as food…”

Chu Mu’s face darkened quickly.

Ninth-level Soul Crystals and tenth-level Soul Crystals each cost hundreds of millions. Mo Ye was naturally a food lover and liked to act spoiled. If these things were treated as staple food, Chu Mu would be driven to bankruptcy!

“What is the most appropriate food to feed an Emperor-level Soul Pet?” Chu Mu asked.

“There’s something called ‘Spirit’. The ‘Spirit’ is actually a purer form of energy crystal formed by the decomposition of various crystals, internal organ crystals, Soul Cores, Soul Crystals in nature over time. These energy crystals are also sold in the market, priced roughly the same as the ninth and tenth level soul crystals…”

“The Spirit resources are extremely limited. One could responsibly say that in a rather small Earth Realm, places that produce Spirit are probably one at best, barely enough to sustain the basic needs of a single Emperor-level Soul Pet,” the Fox Elder said.

“If there’s not enough Spirit, can they subsist on Soul Crystals?” Chu Mu asked further.

“Ninth and tenth level Soul Crystals can indeed keep them full, but this is considered a last resort. Ninth and tenth level Soul Crystals primarily provide energy. In simpler terms, like the mantou (steamed bun), eating them can indeed make you feel full, but they yield minimal nutrition. Consuming these once in a while doesn’t bear much consequence. Still, the continuous consumption might cause the strength of an Emperor-level Soul Pet to diminish. Such a state is considered signs of the aging soul pet or that it’s terminally wounded,” Fox Elder said.

“Ninth and tenth level Soul Crystals are not lacking in energy but are unsuitable as food.”

“After reaching Emperor Level, the principle of survival of the fittest becomes more fully demonstrated. One of the most crucial factors is the competition for Spirit. Thus, most trades among Soul Emperors are conducted using Spirit, as it cannot be devalued, and no Emperor-level Soul Pet can avoid the necessity of eating,” Fox Elder said.

“How could that be? Emperor-level Soul Pets are, instead, worrying about food,” Chu Mu said in shock.

“Emperor-level Soul Pets are more or less the top predators in the food chain. Even those tiny wild Soul Pets have no difficulty in securing food. In comparison, Emperor-level Soul Pets must worry about food.

The Fox Elder sighed, shaking his head, “The laws of Soul Pets are fair. The biggest manifestation is right here. Weak soul pets can survive no matter what they consume, but not Emperor-level Soul Pets.”

“This rule is the primary reason why most Emperor-level Soul Pets rule their territories. This is what you call the Mysterious Realm.”

“Firstly, a Mysterious Realm ruled by an Emperor-level Soul Pet must be rich in Spirit resources. As I mentioned before, Spirit is formed from various elemental crystals, the internal organ crystals, Soul Cores, Soul Crystals, Crystal Stones… and many other nature’s products, and the chance of their occurrence is not high. Therefore, the more comprehensive and extensive a Mysterious Realm’s Soul Pet ecology is, the greater the chance it might cultivate Spirit. Emperor-level Soul Pets often occupy a vast territory, making the other Soul Pet groups and tribes in the territory submit, and these groups and tribes deliver the food – Spirit.”

Upon Fox Elder’s explanation, Chu Mu generally understood the nature of Emperor-level Soul Pets.

However, Chu Mu found it odd – don’t conflicts often arise between Emperor-level Soul Pets? Conflict is the only way to advance and become stronger.

Chu Mu voiced his confusion.

“Emperor-level Soul Pets are Emperors, rulers of a region. Unless serious territorial disputes arise, Emperor-level soul pets generally do not launch attacks. After all, even though they ruled over the wealthiest territories, no Emperor would ever claim they have sufficient Spirit resources. Moreover, the stronger they are, the more Spirit they need. Each battle consumes a substantial amount of physical energy. Even though Emperors have significantly more energy than other soul pets, imagine if they were to face countless enemies, even Emperor-level soul pets can be exhausted… They are powerful indeed but will not waste their energy on meaningless fights. Even more so, they do not want to get hurt because once they’re injured, other Emperors may seize the opportunity to rush into their territories and snatch their resources.”

Fox Elder’s words left Chu Mu somewhat enlightened yet still feeling lost.

“Of course, if these Emperors have Soul Pet Masters, then it’s a different story. Humans have formed an intricate trading system where as long as Soul Emperors are wealthy, they can buy Spirit. Moreover, humans can come up with ways that make it easier to find and manufacturer Spirit. Therefore, Emperor-level Soul Pets who have made contracts with humans will battle more frequently…”

“However, even though that’s the case, a single Emperor-level Soul Pet can still wreak havoc on a Soul Pet Master’s finances. In extreme cases, some Soul Pet Masters, unable to shoulder the burden, had to release their Emperor-level Soul Pets. So, young master, you must be mentally prepared. Spirit is extremely expensive and rare,” Fox Elder said.

“Also, a reason why one who owns an Emperor-level Soul Pet will usually strive for a position, like World Lord, for example. A World Lord is more or less like ruling a vast territory, and the Spirit resource within it is monopolized by them. With this monopoly, a World Lord can assure to afford their Emperor-Level Soul Pets at any time. Young master, maybe you haven’t realized it yet, but Emperor-Level Soul Pets have a considerable appetite. You will realize it after a while…. Also, your Little Hiding Dragon… has a big appetite.”

Chu Mu let out a bitter smile. It seemed that he would have to vigorously hustle for his Emperor-Level Soul Pet’s food.

The only consolation was the Spirit-like things in the Defecting Girl’s space ring, which were not soul crystals, are indeed “Spirit”. These Spirits are enough to feed Mo Ye for two months.
