Chapter 569: Chapter 563: Undercurrent
“What’s with the all-nighters?” It’s not that Finn Lewis didn’t care about them, but he had been so busy lately. Plus, these guys had just joined his company and were on the rise in their careers. Each of them belonged to the type of hard-working individuals, so sometimes when Finn asked them out for dinner, they would not show up.
“You’d have to ask her about that.” Peak Blair pointed, somewhat vexed, at Emily Lewis—who was standing not far behind Finn—and said.
“Ask her what?” Finn was a little confused. He turned around and looked at Emily and then at Blair.
“What else could it be? She’s his younger sister, and now she’s with Mr. Humphrey.” Blair shrugged and said.
“I didn’t know about that. She never tells me anything from her childhood. But what do you mean by that? Are you saying my sister’s not good enough for him?” Emily glared at Blair.
“No, no, that’s not what I mean. What I want to say is, Emily, do you have any other sisters? Would you consider introducing them to us loners?” Blair quickly replied, pointing to the rest of the gang.
Emily rolled her eyes and ignored them. Finn, however, seemed very interested. “Really? How did they get together?” He asked.
“I think it was Mr. Humphrey who pursued her, they’re dating now. Look, they’re coming.” Daniel Pan pointed into the distance. Finn looked up and saw Mr. Humphrey and Scholar Lewis walking towards them, holding hands. It was rather surprising for Finn that these two could end up together. But after the shock, he looked admirably at Mr. Humphrey and gave him a thumbs-up. Despite being quiet and reserved, this guy could be quite assertive when it mattered
Just as Finn was about to strike up a conversation with Mr. Humphrey, a car pulled up from afar. Seeing the car, Finn grew nervous because it had been sent to pick up Emma Lewis. He suddenly felt a bit foolish for arranging their meet-up at this time. The flight attendants who knew the situation stood behind Finn. Emily quickly signaled her friends: “Scholar, David Hale, come here. I have to ask about this. You guys come up too.”
With Emily’s cue, her fellow flight attendants swiftly approached, dragging the perplexed Blair and others up with them.
Cars move faster than people. It quickly stopped in front of them. As the door opened, Emma stepped out from the back seat. Finn had yet to come up with a good excuse to introduce her when she descended. When she came down from the car, Kay Lee, who had been holding his arm, suddenly let go and walked straight toward Emma. Before Finn could react, Emma and Kay were already laughing and talking. After a few words, they giggled and then walked arm in arm towards the boat.
As they passed Finn, Kay turned around, looked at him and said with a smile, “What are you looking at? Come on, are you dazed?” She then walked on with Emma, leaving Finn completely dumbstruck. He quickly followed them, maintaining a certain distance as he wanted to eavesdrop on their conversation. His hearing was good enough to listen to their conversation.
However, to Finn’s frustration, all they talked about were clothes, makeup, and other things like spa treatments—nothing related to him at all. He stopped in his tracks as move to the top of the ladder. He waited for Fishy Wells to catch up and then slowed down to walk at the same pace with her, whispering, “How do they know each other? What’s going on here?”
“I don’t know. I don’t know anything.” Fishy’s face turned slightly red. Without saying a word, she quickly walked upstairs. She soon caught up with Emma and Kay, leaving the puzzled Finn behind.
Out of the blue, Blair and the others, who had somehow ended up on the second-floor of the cruise ship, were also bewildered. Blair asked Emily in a low voice, “Are you sure we got it right?”
“Of course I’m sure… But I don’t know about this either.” Emily, too, was baffled. She had inadvertently stumbled upon the relationship between Finn and Emma while shopping. As for who Fishy was, Emily and the others knew very well. The fact that they didn’t know Finn’s secret could be brushed off as a coincidence.
So later, Emily learned about some things, but she couldn’t quite grasp the dynamic that day. “No matter what we do or don’t know, let’s pretend we’re unaware of today’s events. Let’s go down. If we don’t show up, we’ll seem abnormal,” Scholar Lewis said after some thought.
Finn was utterly confused, and once he got on the boat, they immediately set sail. Finn had intended to ask Olivia Thatcher, who, even if she didn’t know everything, should know the general situation. But after long consideration, he didn’t ask. Since Emma and the others weren’t telling, Finn thought it best not to ask. It was certainly better than fretting over how to introduce them to each other.
As Blair and his gang descended from above, the atmosphere on board enlivened. After a brief period of familiarizing, everyone began having fun. This felt like a vacation, which Finn had never had with his close friends before. This was the first time they were going to enjoy the southernmost scenery of Floral Island.
Happiness is always fleeting. It was soon evening, and after playing for an entire day, everyone was tired. They all returned to their rooms to rest. But Finn didn’t have a place to sleep. Kay had gone to Emma’s room, and though Fishy had a room to herself, he couldn’t possible sleep in her room. In the end, he had a room all to himself.
