Chapter 357 Seeing as if Not Seeing
Lin Shen and Catherine both widened their eyes as they gazed at each other's holographic projection. Catherine saw darkness, while Lin Shen saw a mosaic—neither could make out what the other looked like.
"What's with this mosaic? Is it a video effect created by the other side, or is it a mosaic from the Fire Seed?" Lin Shen actually found it difficult to discern what was going on with the mosaics in the video.
If the other person possessed the Fire Seed, that would be too much of a coincidence. The universe is so vast, how could it be that just by chance, the Red Heart A he was video-calling would happen to have the Fire Seed with them?
Lin Shen scrutinized the holographic image. Although he couldn't see what Red Heart A looked like, he could see that she was in a living room. The style of the sofa and other decorations were of a retro design, with the outside of the sofa made from some kind of leather material.
Next to the sofa lay a creature. Although its head and face were not visible, only its spine, Lin Shen's first thought was of the Netherworld Sulfur Wolf.
While Lin Shen was still observing, the communication suddenly cut off, and then a message from Red Heart A came through.
"If you don't want to meet, then don't. What's the point of playing games with me?"
Though it was only text, Lin Shen could genuinely sense the frustration in the words.
"You can't see me?" Lin Shen sent back a text message, without offering an explanation.
"It's pitch black on your end, I can't see anything." A little while later, Red Heart A sent another message.
"I can't see you either." Lin Shen tried to keep his text messages brief, to avoid giving away any clues to Red Heart A that he was not the strange man.
"Don't tell me you can only see darkness too. Who are you trying to fool? I'm not the kind of girl you can easily hoodwink with a couple of words." Catherine directly sent a voice message.
From the sound of Catherine's voice, Lin Shen deduced that she was young, but not that of a young girl—she was likely a mature woman with a bit of age, probably not too different from Tian Xun.

"Mosaic." Lin Shen recalled the strange man's way of talking, although he couldn't remember it very clearly. The strange man was indeed a man of few words, just not as extreme as Wei.
Of course, Lin Shen could not use voice messages, so he sent a text message instead.
"What do you mean? Are you saying I have a mosaic on me? I'm not using a mosaic." Catherine was full of suspicion when she saw Lin Shen's message.
Based on her understanding of Spade A, it didn't make sense that he would lie, especially with such a poor excuse.
"Mosaic." Knowing that he couldn't offer any explanation—doing so would only risk exposing himself—Lin Shen sent the same three words again.
Catherine became even more perplexed. After thinking it over, she initiated another video call.
This time, Lin Shen confidently accepted the video invitation, but Catherine could still only see darkness.
"Still can only see darkness, can you see me?" Catherine straightened up and spoke to the camera.
There was not a sound in the darkness; Catherine repeated herself a few times but still heard nothing, which frustrated her.
Just as she was about to end the video call, she saw a message from Spade A: "Mosaic, I can hear you. Can't you hear me?"
Catherine harbored some doubts but lacked evidence, so she simply replied, "I can't see you, and I can't hear your voice either."
"It seems the damage is severe. Send messages." After sending this message, Lin Shen turned off the video communication.
Catherine, now suspicious, questioned whether the person on the other side was really Spade A. However, the content that person had amended for her previously wasn't something an ordinary person could do.
"I have some questions about that Evolution Skill. Could you help me resolve them?" Red Heart A deliberately posed some tricky questions to gauge the other person's expertise.
If it were indeed Spade A, such questions wouldn't pose any difficulty for him.
Upon seeing the questions, Lin Shen knew that if it were any other Evolution Skill, he would have no capacity to discuss it with Red Heart A. But when it came to the Inheritance Evolution Skill, perhaps no one understood it better than he did.
For every question Red Heart A sent, Lin Shen was able to respond quickly.
After a few questions from Red Heart A, she was almost ready to dismiss her suspicions. With such expertise, even if he were not Spade A, he must be someone of grandmaster level. And how could a grandmaster impersonate someone?
Lin Shen knew it was time. He simply wrote down the problem of condensing fierce Strength into a needle and sent it to Red Heart A.
This Red Heart A always enjoyed sending him all sorts of bizarre skills and problems; now he was returning the same by giving her this challenge to ponder. Should she solve it, Lin Shen would save a great deal of time and effort.
However, Lin Shen merely sent her the problem without saying anything else. He did not tell her to solve it.
"Busy, gotta go," Lin Shen messaged before ignoring any subsequent texts from Red Heart A.
"You're testing me?"
"Give me some time, and I'll come up with the best solution."
"Concentrating such fierce Strength into a needle, yet achieving it without a hint of presence—you've posed a contradictory challenge. How could such ferocity be so undetected?"
"Okay, got it. This won't stump me."
In just a short while, Catherine sent several messages to Lin Shen. He merely read them without responding.
Seeing that there was no further response, Catherine stopped sending messages and instead wrote down the issue Lin Shen had sent, starting her research.
Converting fierce Strength into a needle was not difficult for Catherine.
The challenge was making such sheer Strength undetectable in its fluctuations while maintaining its original speed and power—that was extremely tough.
Catherine tried many methods, but it was difficult to achieve a perfect balance.
To control the fluctuations, one had to sacrifice speed and power; to maintain speed and power, it was hard to control the fluctuations to the point of them being undetectable.
Catherine researched for a long time but couldn't find a solution to the problem.
Though it might be resolved with some special Innate Skill, Catherine deemed such solutions beneath her. She felt that using such means to solve it would only invite Spade A's mockery.
Thus, Catherine was determined to find a solution that didn't rely on any special Innate Skills, for only such an answer would truly convince Spade A.
Lin Shen didn't bother with Red Heart A anymore, sending the mechanical watch back to Wei Wufu and continuing his research on the flawed Evolution Theory.
The flawed Evolution Theory was something he dared not entrust to others.
