Chapter 266: The Eve of Battle (5)
Chapter 266: The Eve of Battle (5)
In one corner of the intersection in the city, and just a mile away from the nest.
Leo and his men had halted their march and started occupying the buildings in one corner of that intersection and turned them into temporary strongholds.
The soldiers and the newly integrated survivors are busy fortifying the buildings with the materials that they had brought with them when they joined or had looted along the way.
While that was happening a small group of people, consisting of three soldiers and a few survivors drove their way towards the direction of the infected nest in one vehicle and with the purpose of scouting out the place for the upcoming battle.
On the other hand, Leo is also monitoring the movements of the horde through his virtual map as well as keeping a lookout for that group that left to gather information, because after all, he can't just go around start spouting information that he shouldn't suppose to know when his people didn't even see him leave.
So he sent a group of scouts as a cover up for information he gets from his virtual map, but at the same time, to get more proper information on the zombies, especially the mutated ones as his virtual map only labels them as mutated but not what kind they are.
'Everything is working out well so far, the only bad news is that almost all of the zombies in the surroundings of the city that weren't under the control of that monster had become integrated into the horde. A sign that the Z Type had gotten a little bit stronger, I just hope its not as troublesome as that one we met back in Washington, that one had a lot of mutated zombies under its command, which almost caused us to fail'
Though, he's only a little worried because he already got the Scorpion Tank to accompany them, which is enough to suppress the ordinary zombies, even the mutated ones and along with the cover of the mortars that will be manned by the retired soldiers mixed with the survivors, the chance of victory had just gone up to around fifty to sixty percent.
But that is just a rough estimate as Leo still hasn't gotten a rough number of the horde that's hiding under the zombie nest as his mini map or virtual map can only scan the surface level of the ground and not under.
Of course, Leo could have just ordered those two Pelicans to do the scouting, but he didn't want his men to rely on it too much, as it was already obvious how useful it is during his adventures so far.
"And here I thought we'd actually fight the horde head on"
"Yeah, it's a good thing that sir is going to tackle this fight through a siege battle. The only question would be is if we have enough ammunition, supplies, and if the buildings are able to stand tall against the horde, and most importantly of all, can our mentaily handle it when the horde is finally is front of us?"
"But why did he send a group of people to scout ahead when he could have just sent any of those airplanes or whatever they are called to do the scouting?"
"Maybe it burns a lot of fuel?"
"They came from Europe, as if it burns a lot of fuel!"
The survivors tasked with placing down barbed wires around the building are talking amongst themselves enthusiastically, an atmosphere mixed with excitement, doubt and fear.
The same scene was also happening at the other two buildings near the five story building where Leo is at, all of them wondering and worried about what will happen later. Some of them are even praying while working on the fortifications around the buildings.
"I hope we'll survive and finally leave this place"
"Do you think that man will keep his promise?"
"He will or else he will lose the hearts of his people for not keeping his words. Even if they follow his orders later, they will only do it half heartedly, which would certainly detrimental to the development of whatever he's planning to do"
If Leo was able to hear the conversations going around him, he wouldn't even be surprised about their thoughts. After all, what they said was right, only someone who is truly selfish would not honor their word.
Besides, he's not the kind of person who would jeopardize his future and safety for small gains.
Alex, on the other hand, had once again disappeared, and only a select few noticed his absence around Leo, some were confused about it, but the others who were already used to it didn't mind as they already learned about his solo activities from their friends.
Leo had purposely sent him away to look after the scouting team in the dark, and with their goal to gather intel on the zombie nest, it made their task extremely difficult and dangerous right now, especially when there's still a number of zombies still gathering towards the location of the nest from different directions.
"Boss, will they be fine?"
Lin, who was busy directing the others below and saw the people Leo had sent for a scouting mission, made him really worried as everyone knows how critical and dangerous it is right now,
So he quickly made his way to the rooftop of the building and met his boss.
"They're gonna be fine, it would also be a test for them if they wanted to be core members. Besides, Alex would look after them in the dark"
Leo didn't mind Lin questioning him about it. After all, the dude had been one of the first members who had joined him, and most of all, Lin is one trustworthy person.
After all, a person who blindly follows orders and never questions them, certainly doesn't deserve to be in Lin's position as a trustworthy aide.
Looking in the distant horizon, Leo turned his head towards Lin and said, "Since you're here, does that mean that everything is ready?"
"Almost boss, the others are already finalizing their work with the trip mines. After that, everything will be ready"
"Good, then we'll wait for the report from Bella and the others after they return"
