Chapter 139: Attack on the Sea(1)
Chapter 139: Attack on the Sea(1)
The Serpent Sea, a beautiful blue water body that encased the southern part of the planet
Why was it called the Serpent Sea?
Just like its name, it was the home to the sea serpent species, demonic beasts that rivaled the legendary spirit beasts.
This best described how well dangerous the sea serpents were, and the captain of the ship knew that.
A week and two days after the Aztec group boarded the ship, the captain was taking a break in his cabin on the first layer.
His cabin wasn't anywhere near the residential parts of the ship. Instead, it was the highest location on the ship, granting him the most perfect view of the sea and the path of the ship, just like a captain should have.
After taking a quick nap, the captain opens his eyes and instantly regretted it.
"This must be a joke," faltered the captain.
There was a massive shadow looming over the other ships.
He rubbed his view to check whether he was just seeing things. However, even after a rub, he still saw the same things!
Normally, it would be a good sight but he thought something was very wrong with it.
The captain had to use a nearby monocular telescope to get a better view of things.
"What in heaven's name?" cursed the captain.
He could see the actual appearance of the looming shadow. To no one's surprise, it was a black sea serpent.
The serpent was massively long, more than fifty(50) feet long. It had blacks scales of various shades and when it opened its mouth, the sets of teeth were uncountable.
The scariest part of what the captain saw was that there were other different sea serpents coiling around different ships.
He watched as the people of the ships try to kill the serpents before the serpents could drown the ships.
However, what did they expect?
The reason why no one cared about the actual rank of sea serpents was that whenever they were in a water body, they were practically invincible.
Their scales shielded them from energy attacks, while their relationship with [Water Element] granted them an almost unthinkable regeneration rate.
Before he could count, the serpents began sinking the ships. Some of them were cruel enough to spray poison or icy breath at the ships, effectively freezing or killing the entire ship.
"Before we could make an agreement, but seeing as there are more aggressive than usual, this is a no go. This is bad, I need to warn them," nervously mumbled the captain.
Thinking on his feet, he picked up a [Voice Amplifier] and brought his mouth closer to it.
He couldn't afford to go down to inform the rest of his crew. So, he had to improvise, knowing well enough that the people on his ship would also hear the announcement.
If he remembered correctly, the king of Aztec and his remaining forces were also on his ship. They were sure to join him, as it concerned their survival.
"This is the captain of xxxxx speaking. I want all the deck department crew to gather on the first level. Make sure to wear your combat armor as we are expecting an attack. I'm not saying this twice and for heaven's sake, be damn fast," the captain hollered.
'Thos should be enough,' he said to himself.
"I hope the Aztec king understood the mes---"
As he was about to climb down to the first level, a large weight slammed on his ship and almost bent it.
*hisss-hisss-hissss*
The moment he heard the familiar sound of sea serpents, the captain became more alarmed than he had ever been in his life.
.............
Meanwhile, Jake was in his room feeling the cold warmth of the sea.
An hour ago, he was doing the same thing, touching his circular window, but it was a bit different.
As Jake observed the blue water, he constantly tilted his head left and right.
It was unknown what he was tilting at, but if one was in the same room Jake was in, they would be shocked as it was not of who he was tilting his head at, but what?!
Jake's eyes locked on the cute but large eye of a smaller white sea serpent.
He understood that it was only cute because he was in a protected space, but when he first saw it a day ago, he couldn't help but play with it.
Jake had a good affinity with snake-like creatures. He was able to get his way around them, and normally could "feel" them even before his rebirth.
For instance, when he jumped in the lake in the Dark Forest to protect himself. There was a snake there, but it ignored him and continued sleeping.
This was how good Jake was with snakes!
When he saw the sea serpent, he quite liked its beautiful scales and eyes, even though one of its eyes was enough to cover Jake's window.
A day after, following much trial and error, the two of them simply gazed into the eyes of one another. They followed each other's thoughts as they tilted their heads, in a way that snake charmers would be jealous of.
Jake smiled as he had already noticed that the white serpent was more intelligent than given credit for.
The first time Jake saw the beast, he had thought the serpent was going to blast a hole through his room, but to his surprise, the serpent simply brought its large eyes to spy into the room, showing signs of intelligence.
It was even more cautious when Jake carefully approached, just separated by a mere glass.
Now, the two of them were already more close than ever. The feat of following each other's thoughts already meant that they understood one another.
It was one of the first things Jake learned at the Aztec Library.
So, here they were now, two individuals from different races connected together.
Jake didn't need to think much to understand the reason for the appearance of the serpent.
After seeing the serpent, he had already changed his plans and waited for his green light.
*Boom!*
As he was playing with the snake, a tremor shook the ship and tilted the entire ship sideways.
While hitting his head on the room walls, Jake sighed, "Perfect!"
