Chapter 202: The Assault on the Akarios Island Part 1
Chapter 202: The Assault on the Akarios Island Part 1
Vincent took a steadying breath as he turned away from the monitors. The explosion had torn through a significant portion of Valeria's forces, but he knew better than to think it would be enough to deter her. She would retaliate with more force, and he had to ensure they were prepared for what was coming next.
He went outside and ran towards the building where Princess Elara and Queen Velara was staying. And once inside, he quickly informed them of the developments.
"There are demon forces heading to the island," Vincent announced. "You two must get ready as I might need your help."
"Wait? Demon forces heading over to this island? When did you find this out?" Princess Elara asked, seemingly shocked at the news brought to her.
"About earlier," Vincent replied. "Most of our experimental weapons aren't ready so we must hold this place."
Vincent's words hung in the air, each syllable driving home the urgency of the situation. Princess Elara and Queen Velara exchanged quick glances before focusing their full attention on him.
Elara's brows knit in concern. "Don't worry, I am at your disposal."
Velara nodded in agreement. "I too will lend a hand. I already have combat experience against the demon king generals."
"Thank you," Vincent appreciated their cooperation. "I will deploy every forces that I have here."
Vincent's plan snapped into action as soon as he exited the command center, directing the mobilization of every available asset to the beach. This was the battlefront where they would either hold or lose Akarios Island.
As the horizon darkened with the approaching demon mist, the first tactical units began to roll forward. Along the coastline, the imposing silhouettes of M1 Abrams tanks and M1128 Mobile Gun Systems lumbered into position, their cannons turning towards the incoming threat. Their engines rumbled like distant thunder, a steady, unyielding sound as soldiers worked swiftly to reinforce the beach defenses.
Further back, a line of artillery pieces had already been stationed along the high ground, each one calibrated and loaded, ready to rain fire upon the enemy as soon as they came into range. Operators checked their targeting data, radio communications crackling with final adjustments as they locked onto the ominous clouds that seemed to swell and shift with unnatural life.
The air above Akarios Island buzzed with activity. Apache helicopters hovered just behind the front line, their rotors slicing through the air as pilots communicated their battle positions. Armed with Hellfire missiles and Hydra rockets, the Apaches were ready to strafe any advancing demon forces that managed to get too close to the beach. Close behind, an A-10 Warthog thundered over the water, its signature roar filling the air as it approached the beach at low altitude, the 30mm GAU-8 Avenger cannon primed to unleash devastation on any enemy formations.
From higher above, an AC-130 gunship circled over the island, armed with its arsenal of weaponry that included a 105mm howitzer and 40mm Bofors cannon.
"Command, this is AC-130, 'Spectre One,' we are in position, holding pattern over the island," came the calm, steady voice of the gunship's pilot.
"Copy, Spectre One," Vincent responded. "Hold until targets are in range. Expect coordinated demon formations."
Meanwhile, an MQ-9 Reaper drone glided high above, relaying real-time aerial visuals of the demon forces. On the screens in the command center, Valeria's army was visible as dark shapes moving in disciplined lines across the misty platforms she had created. The scale of her forces was daunting, but Vincent knew they had the tools to meet this threat.
"We have visual confirmation of targets approaching," Sergeant Jacobs, the drone operator, reported, his eyes fixed on the screens. "They're coming in dense formations-looks like they're planning a full assault."
"Affirmative. Relay coordinates to all artillery units," Vincent ordered, his voice calm but carrying the weight of the situation.
Along the beach, soldiers took cover behind the tanks and infantry fighting vehicles, each armed with everything from rifles to grenade launchers. The coastline was ready, every inch braced for the incoming wave.
"Apache units, engage on my mark," Vincent commanded, watching as the first line of demon forces broke from the mist. "All artillery, fire on coordinates now!"
In an instant, the silence was shattered by the explosive concussions of artillery firing in quick succession, shells soaring through the air in a deadly arc. They landed with brutal accuracy, striking the advancing demons and tearing through their ranks. The explosions ripped through the mist, the air filling with smoke and fire as more shells detonated along the coastline.
The Apache helicopters wasted no time, releasing their Hellfire missiles into the fray. The missiles streaked through the sky, locking onto demon clusters and detonating in fiery bursts that sent waves of demon soldiers sprawling. The Apaches followed up with their Hydra rockets, strafing the beach with a relentless barrage.
Overhead, the Warthog came in low, its GAU-8 cannon roaring to life as it unleashed a stream of 30mm rounds that tore through the demon ranks. Each shot punched holes into the advancing horde, the rounds piercing through multiple enemies at once, leaving trails of destruction in their wake.
As the dust and smoke rose from the beach, Valeria's forces pushed forward, undeterred by the devastating losses. Garruk's massive figure was unmistakable as he led the demons, his powerful strides breaking through the lines of artillery fire. He deflected some of the attacks with his sheer brute strength, his armor glowing with demonic energy as he smashed through the obstacles in his path.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Vincent clenched his fists as he watched. "Spectre One, prepare to engage heavy targets. Focus fire on the large entity moving toward the center."
"Roger that, Command. Engaging target now," the AC-130 gunship's pilot confirmed.
The gunship's cannons unleashed a barrage from above. The 105mm howitzer thundered as it fired round after round toward Garruk, each impact throwing up plumes of earth and debris around him. Garruk staggered slightly, but his relentless approach continued, his demonic resilience evident as he charged forward, roaring his defiance.
The Apache helicopters shifted their focus, launching missiles directly at Garruk. Explosions erupted around him, but his dark armor held, his demonic aura shielding him from the worst of the damage. Valeria's forces surged forward behind him, taking advantage of the chaos to
press the assault.
"Bring in the tanks! Hold them at the shoreline!" Vincent ordered.
The Abrams and M1128 Mobile Gun Systems moved forward, their cannons firing with a deafening roar as they launched shells directly at the advancing demons. The beach became a war zone, the sheer power of the tank fire breaking the demon formations apart. The M1128's mobile firepower was particularly effective, the vehicle's lighter frame allowing it to maneuver quickly as it delivered rapid, devastating shots into the horde.
Yet, Valeria remained undeterred, her crimson eyes gleaming as she summoned a dark energy barrier, shielding her forces from the artillery and tank fire. Her voice carried over the
battlefield, a chilling command that stirred her forces to press on, pushing through the
human defenses.
Vincent took a deep breath, assessing the situation. He glanced at the Reaper drone's feed, noticing Valeria's energy barrier was straining under the relentless assault. "Deploy the second wave of artillery. Aim at her barrier. We need it down!" he ordered.
The artillery teams adjusted their coordinates, aiming directly at Valeria's barrier. Shell after shell struck the barrier, each impact causing it to flicker and waver. Vincent could see the cracks beginning to form, the barrier barely holding under the combined force of the tanks
and artillery.
"Reaper, launch another Hellfire missile on her position," Vincent commanded.
High above, the MQ-9 Reaper fired once more, its Hellfire missile streaking toward Valeria. The missile hit with a resounding explosion, and her barrier finally shattered, sending a shockwave that disrupted her troops momentarily.
Seizing the moment, Vincent ordered, "Now! All units, full assault!"
The defenders of Akarios Island surged forward, pressing the advantage. The Apache helicopters dove low, releasing their remaining missiles, while the Warthog made another strafing run, its 30mm cannon tearing through the demon forces. Tanks rolled forward, their cannons firing at close range, while soldiers advanced, unleashing everything they had on the disoriented demon ranks.
While doing so, Vincent's notification from the system kept him updated on how many demons he has been killing, and it's flooding his vision.
Vincent's eyes refocused as he dismissed the endless stream of notifications from his system,
allowing him to fully concentrate on the battle unfolding around him. The assault was
relentless; explosions and gunfire filled the air.
The Apaches circled back for another run, now unloading their machine guns into the scattered demon forces. The ground trembled under the onslaught as Valeria's troops scrambled to regroup, but each time they gathered momentum, another barrage from the tanks and artillery tore through their ranks, forcing them back.
"Spectre One," Vincent barked over the radio, "shift fire to the rear lines. Keep them from advancing further."
"Roger that, Command. Adjusting target," came the pilot's calm reply.
From above, the AC-130 zeroed in on the rear formations of demon reinforcements, its cannons roaring as they unleashed another punishing wave of firepower. Each shell slammed into the ground with devastating accuracy, tearing apart anything in its blast radius. Demon soldiers were thrown into the air, their ranks decimated by the heavy bombardment. Meanwhile, Princess Elara and Queen Velara had arrived at the beach's edge, watching the chaos with steely expressions.
"So this is how they fight huh?" Princess Elara remarked. "In close range."
"They are indeed...and they are cool!" Queen Velara added.
