Chapter 8: Report I
Chapter 8: Report I
I walked into the adventurers guild in the afternoon and found the place bustling, not the adventurers but the staff.
Maybe something happened? Guess I can ask after I'm done reporting.
“Luna!” Liz came up to me, "I have waited here all morning! Where were you? I asked the innkeeper but you never came to the inn.”
“Oh, uhm, you know, I did a little bit of subjugating?”
Liz raised an eyebrow at my choice of words. “... A little bit of subjugating?”
“I’ll go report now, we can talk later, okay?” I said and walked past her. I saw that Hanna was free so I moved over to her.
“Hey, I was hoping you could help me? I wanted to report on some monster subjugation.”
“Hello Luna, I was waiting for you.” She said and put down the folder she was skimming through.
“Oh, you decided on our dinner date?” I said and batted my eyelashes.
“Dinner date?” Liz asked, standing right behind me.
I turned around and saw Liz. “Why did you follow me to the counter?”
“You said you had some monster subjugation to report on, I'm curious.”
“You heard her, Hanna. Can you help me with that?”
“Certainly, did you go out this morning?”
“Actually I went out yesterday, I just came back,” I said and rolled out the map I got yesterday. "I was also wondering if you could help me with any potential quests I might have accidentally completed? I don’t know this area well so I would appreciate it if you could tell me if any of the places I show here had a quest? I’m sorry if I make a whole lot of extra work for you.”
“No it’s fine but… Usually adventurers take a quest and go out, not the other way around.”
“It’s no use Hanna. This one doesn’t follow common sense,” Liz said and put a hand on my head.
“I saved your life and this is how you repay me? Right in the heart!” I said and grabbed my chest in a dramatic manner.
“You know what I mean. Now get to the reporting already!”
“Okay, okay, I can’t cause too much trouble for Hanna after all,” I said and leaned over the counter to get a better look at the map, "Okay the town is here and the mountain is there so that means I started this way.” I dragged my finger over the map and tried to remember what path I took.
“So I left town here, followed the road up here, killed a pack of I think twelve or so dark wolves here, went into the forest towards this river, killed a group or fifty something goblins here, they also had a few fighters, a shaman and they were led by a lord. Then I continued up here where I killed a shadow viper and two werebears then I…”
“Stop Stop Stooop!” Hanna shouted, "Are you serious? Can I have a look at your guild card?
“Oh right, that would help since I can’t remember everything.”
I handed Hanna my card and she put it in a slot next to a display that started glowing. She looked at the display, then back at me, then back at the display. Repeating this motion over and over again, each time with wider and wider eyes.
“How did you manage to do all this in one night? Where did you even find all these monsters?” Hanna was holding her head, trying to make sense of the situation.
Hanna kept scrolling through the list. “A BEHEMOTH?! Where did you even find something like that?!” Hanna yelled out.
By now most of the adventurers that were hanging out in the guild along with most of the guild workers were paying attention to our exchange.
“Uhm, I found a dungeon in some ruins.”
“A dungeon?”
“Yeah It was a dungeon with a barrier covering the entrance. I felt a lot of strong monsters from the dungeon so I figured I would take care of them before they decided to break out by themselves.”
“...”
“...”
“...”
The entire guild stopped dead in its tracks. I’m pretty sure some even forgot to breathe. Hanna stared at me, then at Liz and then back at me.
“Uhm, Luna, where was this dungeon?” Hanna asked me, still looking flabbergasted.
“Around here somewhere.” I showed a rough area a fair bit from town.
“And you went into that dungeon alone?”
“Yeah.”
“How did you even enter? The barrier should have blocked everyone from going both in and out?”
“I, uhm, removed the barrier.”
“The Magitech barrier we put there should be able to contain a S rank monster for some time. It shouldn’t be possible to dispel just like that.”
From how they react I might even get that SSS promotion today. That would be a new record for top rank. Here’s to hoping the nobles in this town aren’t the annoying kind.
“I… broke it?”
“You broke the device?”
From all the murmuring coming from the other guild staff I can only guess that those devices are expensive.
“Uhm, no, I broke the barrier.”
Hanna looked at me like she wanted to cry, "Luna, could you come with me to the guildmaster?”
“Uhm, sure? He wanted to talk to me about that thing yesterday, right?”
“It’s a she,” Hanna corrected me, "But yes she did. There is also this matter.”
I’m starting to think that maybe clearing that dungeon was more trouble than it was worth.
I followed Hanna up a flight of stairs to the second floor and followed behind her through a long corridor. She stopped in front of a door close to the end.
“Guildmaster, are you busy? I brought Luna with me,” She said after knocking. "Guildmaster?”
After getting no response she opened the door and peeked inside. “Oh, right!” Hanna said and bopped her forehead, "The Guildmaster said she had to go out for a bit.”
“So should I just wait here?”
“If it’s not too much trouble then yes please. She should be back in a moment.” Hanna said and bowed, "Oh! We can fix your guild card while we wait. We got the magic stone delivered this morning. Follow me please,” She said and gestured back from where we came.
