Chapter 40 Number Zero and System Upgrade
James looked at Wang Ming and gently said:
"Brother Wang Ming, it's time for us to leave. If you need anything, remember to tell me. This little brother will run through fire and swords for you."
Wang Ming internally cursed the shameless fatty's nine generations. Reluctantly, he tore his eyes away from his 'son's skeleton' and looked up at James with his tear-stained face.
"Brother James, you are truly my good brother. You have my deepest thanks. I will be sure to reward you all handsomely."
After hearing the word 'reward', Garrett, Hervy, Lane, Cody, and Coby were internally excited. However, they kept their face outwardly composed.
As for James, he hurriedly shook his hands and put on an angry, displeased face.
"Brother Wang Ming, how can you talk about rewards between brothers!? Could it be you don't see us as brothers anymore!?"
James turned around, motioned for the members of Lion's Liver to follow him, and walked to the exit.
Wang Ming cursed.
'Shameless bastard. Don't act righteous when you're a bigger scum.'
Just as James was about to leave his great hall, Wang Ming shouted:
"Brother, how could you say such words? Of course, we are good brothers. … How about this? Don't think of it as a reward but a gift to my little brother. What do you think?"
James turned around and glanced at Wang Ming. For a moment, he hesitated as though he was losing out. Gritting his teeth, he nodded.
"Haah, if Brother Wang Ming says so… then what can this little brother do? I will reluctantly take your gift."
James shook his head and then left the great hall with the members of Lion's Liver.
Once they were gone, Wang Ming's expression darkened and purple miasma began swirling around him. A moment later, from his Spatial Ring, he took out a Communication Talisman and ordered:
"Investigate the Moon Grove Forest thoroughly. I want to know why that useless bastard went into that forest. Remember to make it convincing. I want everyone to believe that bastard's death has nothing to do with me."
A few seconds later, a black-robed figure wearing a white mask with the number zero walked out of a nearby shadow.
Wang Ming was not surprised by the black-robed figure's appearance. He was his shadow and his most trusted man. Out of all his Shadow Guards and even his own family, he only trusted number zero.
Number zero bowed slightly and in a cold, emotionless voice, said:
"Master, it shall be done. I will ensure your involvement in Wang Chen's death never comes to light."
Wang Ming sat back on his throne and then nodded.
"Good. Keep an eye on that greedy merchant. If not for his background, I would have preferred silencing him."
The Orchard Family was too strong. His Wang Family was no different than an ant in front of a giant like them. Mana Soul Mages were not even qualified to be butlers or maids for them.
Number Zero respectfully replied:
"Understood, Master."
After bowing, he vanished into the shadows.

[Congratulations Host for completing the Optional Trial Quest: Find Wang Chen's body and present it to the Wang Family. Although the Host's actions were unbecoming of the future Transcendent Chef, one must know when to retreat and push ahead.]
The System announced when it received a message its Host had completed the Quest.
Lucian smiled as he continued running toward Thunderfall City. With his Mage Rank at Mana Condensation Realm, he was much faster than before. His steps were light and no longer sluggish. Even after running for a while, he did not break a sweat.
[Commencing Quest Rewards…]
[Quest Rewards: System Upgrade and Spatial Farm.]
—-----------
Suddenly, back in Transcendence in one of the empty rooms on the second floor, a black swirling portal materialized. The portal was seven feet tall and four feet wide.
—-----------
Artifact Added: Spatial Farm
—-----------
[Host now has access to the Spatial Farm. The farm can be accessed through the newly created Spatial Gateway in the room directly opposite of yours in Transcendence. The Spatial Farm allows the cultivation of rare herbs and ingredients, and the rearing of Magical Beasts.]
[System Upgrade shall commence in 3… 2… 1…]
Suddenly, Lucian felt an increase in the Mana around him. He stopped in the middle of the road and curiously looked around. However, before he could even blink, the Mana penetrated into his forehead, momentarily causing him to feel an excruciating pain. His eyes blurred as he clutched his forehead.
A minute later, as Lucian began calming down, he saw a System Notification appear in his mind.

[Congratulations Host! You are one step closer to becoming the Transcendent Chef.]
Lucian picked his body up from the ground and reflexively patted his clothes before remembering his chef's uniform had an auto-clean Skill.
He looked at his surroundings and sighed.
'Luckily, no one was around.'
He then angrily complained to the System:
[System, are you trying to kill me!? What happened to, if I die, you die too!? Even if you don't care about my life, at least care about your life!]
When the System heard its Host's words, it became speechless. The Host's use of reverse psychology did not go unnoticed by it.
In its very short life, it had never been so wronged before. In a pained tone, it replied:
[Host, the System would never actively try to harm the Host. What happened just now was not my fault. How should I know once the System begins upgrading, you will feel excruciating pain? There's no guide book… well. There is one but I, the System am not given full access to view its information.]
[If you say so…]n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
After shaking his head, Lucian began running to Thunderfall City. At least with his mastery of Shape-Shifting increased by a level, he would be safer.

Possessing Mana and not possessing it was like the difference between a Mortal and a God. In a mere four hours, Lucian arrived at the doorstep of his restaurant. He unlocked the door and went inside. After locking the door behind him, he went up to his room to take a shower.
