Chapter 28: The battle’s consequence Part II
“Lucky that I could grab the item dropped from the Inferno before you dragged me out like that, or everything we did would go to waste!”
She finished as she looked down at the Inferno gemstone in her hands, her eyes sparkling. This red marble could be worth more than five million coins if it was sold in the market. If she had missed this, she would probably have slapped this guy’s head off.
“So, are you going to explain why we had to fly off like that? We didn't even thank Warunya, or say goodbye to her, yet.”
“There was no time for that. Didn't you see that after we killed Lord Inferno, there were two idiots that came running to Warunra right away?” Maysa vaguely remembered the moment as she was listening to him.
Back when this guy dragged the giant monster to crash on the ground, there was an explosion blasting all over the area, blowing many players away, too. But luckily for the girls, they survived purely because of the barrier potion of Warunya.
After the explosion ended, there were two players running toward Warunya. Maysa could recognize that they were a couple of a man and a woman.
“And what’s the matter with them?”
“The matter is that they’re my best friends,” Wisana drawled his voice to reply, sounding bored. “I’m not as close to Warunya, so I could pose as someone else with her. But with those guys, I would get busted as soon as they saw me. That was why I had to drag you out like that.”
His reason made Maysa sigh slightly.
“You’re weird. Why do you have to cover up from your friends about just you playing the game?
“Well...” He was speechless by that question.
“Okay, whatever. You can tell me later when you want to. And if you don’t, it’s fine, too.” The other voice said, brushing it off as her hand waved left to right. She then sat down again.
“Player Wisana has killed Lord Inferno and earned 8,682,851 EXP”
“Player Wisana has killed 20 Nova minions and earned 300,000 EXP”
“Player Maysa has assisted in killing Lord Inferno and earned 4,358,741 EXP”
“Player Maysa has killed 57 Nova minions and earned 855,000 EXP”
Her butt had not even touched the grass yet, when Jinnie and Al announced, almost in unison. The buddies looked at each other for a moment.
“I guess our AI just finished calculating the EXP from the battle.” The gunner was the first to speak.
“They took a bit too long this time, though.”
“Didn’t you hear how high the EXP numbers were? We just killed a boss, not just some brown hown.” And there was a delighted smile on her pretty face like she was in the best mood. “Let’s see how many levels we upgraded.”
“Player Wisana is now level 38.”
“Player Maysa is now level 39.”
PUUUD!!
Wisana choked on his saliva after he heard that, and Maysa clicked her tongue, displeased. The slender figure lay back on the ground, sighing out a loud whew!
“Aw, mine was only slightly upgraded,” the small voice complained.
“But why did mine improve this much? I’m almost on the same level as you are now,” he said as he was holding his fingers to count. “It’s up by 23 levels. Is this normal?”
“I told you that we just killed a boss. You were the one who did the most damage, so you deserved more EXP than the others. Also, you were the one who drew the first blood.”
“First blood?” The one with zero game knowledge kept asking.
“In this game, to draw the first blood means that you are the first to land and attack on a monster. It will give you the chance to earn the most EXP and be the first to pick up the dropped items.”
“Huh? Since when I did that, exactly?” Wisana raised eyebrows with curiosity. He had no idea when he attacked it before the others did.
“You really don’t remember?” The one next to him asked, tilting her head, smiling.
“No.”
“It was when you hastily ran from Lord Inferno with eyes bulging in panic, and you continuously threw the bombs at him.”
The pair of amber eyes glanced at her as he realized. It was true that he threw bombs at it, the firebomb, if he was not mistaking something.
“Hey, you’re talking about the firebomb that increased HP for the lizard boss? That was counted as the first blood, too?”
“Of course not.” Maysa shook her head.
“What?”
“I’m not talking about that stupid firebomb. I'm talking about the smoke bomb that had 1 damage point. Does it sound familiar to you yet?!” Listening to her, the guy just started to realize that Maysa was talking about the bomb that released the smoke to cloud over the boss' face with a popping sound.
He could remember that she was snapping out something like ‘Are you trying to choke him to death with the smoke?!’...
“Yeah, I remember now. But 1 damage can be counted as first blood, too?”
“Yes, it can.” Maysa smiled so sweetly. “It doesn’t matter how much the damage is. If there’s a number pops up for the first time, then it is the first blood.”
Wisana let out a laugh after he listened to her. He got this many first blood EXP from that stupid attack? This was too hilarious!
“You know, I actually thought that you wouldn’t make it.” The girl spoke up softly after a short pause.
“Not just you did. I thought I wouldn’t win, either,” he added, making the smaller one chuckle.
“In conclusion, it was the items that you randomly bought that helped us win. Well, just like it’s said that the newbies usually come with a lucky punch.”
“Who said I bought them randomly? It was all according to my plans.” Wisana would not hesitate if he had a chance to brag. Then he lay down, sticking out his chest on the grass floor. Maysa looked at him and could not help but pinch the cheek of this gasbag out of annoyance and endearment.
“Is that so? I thought you were buying them just to dress cool!”
“No, it wasn’t just that. I’m Wisana, a man with a plan,” he said as he was faking a cocky face that made her hand itch again.
“Damn, Wisana, you’re the most unbelievable man on earth. I mean...”
“You’re both insulting and complimenting me again?” Wisana finished her sentence. Maysa paused.
They were catching each other’s eyes for a few moments, then they busted out laughing. The taller one was laughing so hard that he put his hands on his stomach, while the other was rolling on the grass, having never been this amused before.
The more they spent time together as a team, the more they understood each other’s minds.
After a short while, Maysa got up. A delighted smile came across her face again.
“I need to log off for today. I’ll see you later, then we will share our coins and items from the battle. I can confirm that we’re going to be very rich to shop as much as we want!” Hearing his buddy say that Wisana followed, getting up as well.
“Okay. Now the real time is almost 6 in the morning. I need to wake up soon,” he said with a smile.
“Well, hey, Wisana, you should take my phone numbers.” She finished then sent ten digits to Wisana's inventory window. “Call me any time if you need me. Just sometimes my dad would pick up so, be careful.” She gave him a cheesy smile after that, making Wisana chuckle.
“What time do we meet tomorrow?” Wisana asked.
“Maybe around eight p.m. I’ll be home late today, so I'll be online late, too. You can just wander around in the game while you wait.” Wisana nodded before he stood up, handing out a hand to pull Maysa up together, too.
“Er, and I need to warn you something,” the clear voice spoke plainly.
“About?”
“When you’re in the game tomorrow, don’t put on the mask except for when you run into your friends.”
“Why?”
The cute face of her appeared with a broad smile before she put her hand on her waist.
“Don’t forget that you must be popular by now as the Lord Inferno slayer. If you don’t want any chaos, then try not to draw much attention. I think the images of the masked Vincent are probably all over the news feed already. So, wait until I get here and we’ll deal with this later."
“Is that so?” Wisana raised his eyebrows.
“Also, the butterfly effect currently has only one piece in the world. If someone finds out that you’re the one who beat the boss, people will crowd up on you and insist you to sell the scarf to them for sure.” Maysa was giving a quick lecture like this was not something that mattered. She looked down at her information window, then she looked up to give the man a smile.
“I have to go now. So, see you in the evening, you chaotic mess.”
“Sure, sis!” After Wisana’s sarcasm, Maysa busted out laughing as the iridescent spark was covering her until she disappeared with that.
He sighed slightly as he saw that. “Guess I have to get going, too. Jinnie, babe, see you again this evening.”
“Sure, master.”
