Chapter 334: Fate Like a Blade (I)
"Got it!"
The next morning, when Chen Chu arrived at Yan Ruoyi's room, there were only three people in the living room waiting for him: Yan Ruoyi herself, Li Daoyi, and Bai Yunfeng.
Xu Xiaoqi, Bai Yunfeng's assistant and adopted daughter, wasn’t present. As an ordinary person, there were some things she was not privy to.
Yan Ruoyi nodded. "The Federation sent news this morning that Kaotoros’ soul avatar hadn't been completely annihilated. Instead, it exhausted its divine soul power not only to try to kill you, but also to try to escape tracking by shedding its current body and moving to a new one.
"It also seems that Kaotoros and Akunus weren't entirely aligned. They were wary of each other even while cooperating, and Akunus was apparently unaware of this plan.
"Capturing and sealing Kaotoros’ soul fragment was mainly thanks to Bredos, the fifth heir to the Bredora Group. He has remarkable achievements in genetic biology and cultivation, and is a very patient individual.
“He first contacted the Demon God Cult seven years ago, when he was thirteen. Over the years, he sold ‘useful’ information to the Demon God Cult in exchange for a large number of mythical world resources, and slowly gained the trust of the Purgatory Clan.
“The second son of an executive in a top group, ostracized by his family, no cultivation talent, seeking to change his genetic lineage... it’s the perfect profile for a traitor, right? In reality, the Bredos that interacted with the Demon God Cult was always a clone to maintain the illusion, with a chip in its brain to link his consciousness.
“Meanwhile, he was able to use the resources from the Purgatory Clan and Bredora’s research facilities to greatly enhance his genetic battle body. He’s now in the Seventh Heavenly Realm, and pretty much invincible at his level.
"Currently, Kaotoros's clone has been sealed and sent to the world passage entrance, where a king-level powerhouse is waiting. We’ll be using its soul essence to locate and lock onto its true body.
"The Purgatory Clan consists of multiple smaller clans, and while they’re stronger than humans overall, the internal strife is severe. The Battle Demon Clan, to which Kaotoros belongs, and the Kuro Demon Clan are mortal enemies, sometimes even fighting each other during major battles.
"Now, with his soul avatar fallen, Kaotoros's main body is in a heavily injured state. In this situation, he wouldn't dare let the Kuro Demon Clan's king know, nor would he stay on the front lines, which gives us the opportunity to kill his true body."
"I see." Chen Chu nodded slowly as Yan Ruoyi finished speaking. No wonder he had felt something was amiss at the time. As a king-level entity, it had died far too easily, even in an avatar state.
He hadn't expected the Federation's plans to be so extensive, however, with hidden trump cards in multiple aspects just waiting to reveal themselves.
Li Daoyi grinned. "With Kaotoros dealt with, only Akunus remains. As a mere beginning-stage Sixth Heavenly Realm avatar, if it dares to show itself, either one of us could easily suppress it."
These king-level soul avatars couldn't enhance their strength, so their threat wasn’t as great as imagined. Otherwise, the Federation would have sent a large number of high-level experts to turn the world upside down, rather than dispatching only two top-level geniuses to assist Yan Ruoyi in this baiting operation.
At eleven in the morning, the bustling commercial street of Miamir was teeming with people, completely unaffected by the minor disaster that had occurred the previous day. As one of Gunado's most prosperous cities, Miamir had a permanent population of over a million. The cultural differences made its architecture and customs appear rugged and open.
The streets were filled with women in short skirts, showcasing their long legs. Especially notable were the ones with full figures that wore off-shoulder dresses or tight T-shirts, their fair skin and well-defined features exuding a unique charm.
Additionally, some gene martial art cultivators were occasionally seen. These individuals had a beastly aura, with lean physiques and sharp eyes. Some even exhibited special mutations, such as an arm covered in scales or small horns growing from their heads.
Instead of disdain or fear, however, many people looked at them with envy; these mutations signified that their martial arts had reached the Third Heavenly Realm or higher.
Li Daoyi's gaze swept over a voluptuous beauty, and he exclaimed excitedly, "Brother Chu, I think I'm starting to like this city."
Chen Chu's expression was peculiar. "You mean you like that you can add many beautiful women as friends. I just worry you won't have enough red envelopes to give out."
Today, Yan Ruoyi had forced Chen Chu and Li Daoyi to change into casual clothes for their stroll around the city, rather than their usual bodyguard outfits or Taoist robes, including sunglasses and baseball caps, since they had been exposed too much by now.
Compared to their low-profile attire, Xu Xiaoqi and Yan Ruoyi looked much more exquisite. Xu Xiaoqi was wearing a pink fitted T-shirt with white lace on the collar and cuffs, paired with a white tight-fitting short skirt. Her long legs were clad in white stockings, and she wore silver high heels, looking sexy and beautiful.
Yan Ruoyi, on the other hand, wore slim-fitting jeans and a simple white T-shirt adorned with a crystal-studded rabbit pattern, looking both exquisite and fashionable. To avoid being recognized, she was also wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses.
It was a rare outing for shopping, and both Yan Ruoyi and Xu Xiaoqi were very excited, looking around with great interest as they held special snacks from Miamir.
While shopping, they occasionally overheard conversations between gene martial artists, talking about the devastating battle from the day before. Besides lamenting the many casualties, they regretted not witnessing the battle in person, as it had been a chance to see a king-level being up close.
Suddenly, Li Daoyi said, "Brother Chu, let's discuss something."
"What is it?"
Li Daoyi grinned. "When Akunus shows up later, let me have him. I want to know what it feels like to kill a god."
"Isn't that already your mission?" Chen Chu looked at him strangely.
Their division of labor had always been that Li Daoyi would face the enemies, while Chen Chu would detect the enemies and protect Yan Ruoyi up close. The previous demon attacks had all been handled by Li Daoyi; Kaotoros had simply been an unexpected event.
Li Daoyi looked a bit uneasy. "I'm just confirming with you, to avoid you accidentally taking down Akunus, too."
There was no choice now that only one target remained.
"Don't worry, I won't act unless Ms. Yan's safety is at risk," Chen Chu assured.
The four of them arrived at Miamir's largest mall, bustling with people. Suddenly, someone excitedly shouted, "Yan Ruoyi, it's Yan Ruoyi!"
Instantly, many eyes turned to the four of them, especially focusing on Chen Chu, despite his sunglasses.
"It really is Yan Ruoyi! I recognize that bodyguard. That incredibly handsome side profile is unmistakable."
"Yeah, it's him!"
"Ruoyi, can I get your autograph?"
"Chu Batian, I'm a fan of yours!"
The crowd suddenly erupted with excitement, many young men and women rushing over.
Boom!
As they approached, a tangible aura exploded from Chen Chu, compressing the surrounding air into gusts of wind that made it hard for many to keep their eyes open. The area fell silent instantly as everyone was held in place with pale faces by the oppressive force, some even trembling in fear.
They suddenly remembered that this man had killed a god, with the aftermath of his battle causing thousands of casualties.
Only then did Chen Chu, with a cold expression, say slowly, "Stop. Do not come any closer. If you want an autograph, you'll need to ask Ms. Yan's permission."
With that, he gradually retracted his aura, and the crowd collectively breathed a sigh of relief.
Yan Ruoyi smiled. "Thank you all for your support and love. It seems we were fated to meet here. Those who want autographs, please come one at a time."
After Yan Ruoyi finished speaking, the scene paused slightly before a young man nervously raised his hand.
"I want one, I want an autograph."
"Me too, I'm also a fan of yours, Ruoyi..."
With someone leading, many others followed suit and began lining up. Seeing this, the mall manager quickly brought over a table, paper, and pens.
Thus, today's shopping trip turned into an impromptu fansign event. Once they heard that Yan Ruoyi was present and signing autographs, many people gathered around.
In the midst of signing, a young girl, holding a notebook just signed by Yan Ruoyi, approached Chen Chu nervously and stuttered. "M-Mr. Chu, could you please sign an autograph for me too?"
Chen Chu coldly refused. "Sorry, I'm just a bodyguard."
The girl's face fell with disappointment, making Li Daoyi want to say something about signing instead.
Before he could, however, the crowd suddenly gasped. Yan Ruoyi, who had been smiling while signing autographs, suddenly turned pale and collapsed backward.
"Shit!" Chen Chu swiftly caught her. Soon, news of her fainting in the mall quickly spread online.
