Chapter 68: World’s Focus
Chapter 68: World's Focus
A few minutes later, Alex arrived at the next military base. Hovering above the base, he ignored the high-yield missiles fired at him and the shots from the soldiers below, standing motionless in the sky. Energy surged through his body, rapidly depleting as the black-and-red singularity in his palm grew larger and larger, stopping only when it reached the size of a person.
"Cursed Technique Reversal: Red" experience +1 (x5)
...
With the system notifications constantly flashing and the soldiers watching in despair, the black-and-red singularity transformed into a beam of light, plummeting from the sky and crashing onto the ground!
*Boom!*
Once all sound had faded, and the smoke and dust had settled, the military base had completely vanished, leaving behind only a massive, circular crater.
After confirming the death of the second general, Alex took another step and flew rapidly toward the nearest military base. This process continued, over and over.
...
Alex's actions quickly caught the attention of major news outlets, and some media had even begun broadcasting live from the ruins of the military bases.
One of the most notable reporters was Eddie Brock, a rising star in journalism. Previously, he had been hit head-on by Alex's Cursed Energy Reversal: Red, his body completely crushed by the immense force, but with the relentless healing powers of Venom, he had survived after two weeks in bed.
However, this ordeal did not deter him from reporting on the White-Haired Mutant. He could no longer live without the fame, nor without the notoriety that the White-Haired Mutant had brought him!
Standing in front of the camera, Eddie addressed the many viewers:
"About an hour ago, the White-Haired Mutant began a sudden assault on our nation's military bases. We believe this is in retaliation for the military's previous attempts to attack him.
In just one hour, he has destroyed five military bases, resulting in tens of thousands of casualties!
We do not know if his actions indicate a formal declaration of war against the government, potentially igniting a conflict between mutants and ordinary people!"
...
At Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, Professor X watched the news broadcast with a serious expression. His worst fears had come true—the actions of the White-Haired Mutant were beginning to affect all mutants, seriously damaging the fragile peace between mutants and ordinary humans.
Beast, covered in blue fur, approached from a distance and said to Professor X, "Professor, the military has issued us a warning. They demand our cooperation in killing the White-Haired Mutant, or they will consider this an act of war by mutants against humanity!"
Beast's words finally made Professor X resolve. He said to Hank, "Prepare for action. We must stop him!"
"But the White-Haired Mutant is too powerful. We can't defeat him. He even easily repelled an alien force that attempted to invade Earth. Based on his demonstrated combat abilities, his power has increased significantly again."
"No, Hank, we have no choice but to try. This is for the future of mutants, for our future!"
Under Professor X's persuasion, Beast finally agreed and sent out messages to the X-Men.
...
Meanwhile, on a plane heading to report on another destroyed military base, Eddie Brock received an official communication. He quickly turned to the camera and addressed the viewers:
"Please don't worry, everyone. The X-Men have informed us that the destruction of the military bases was solely the White-Haired Mutant's own decision and not representative of the intentions of all mutants. There will be no war between mutants and humans!
Additionally, the X-Men have stated they will join forces with the military to eliminate the White-Haired Mutant completely! The military also claims they now have weapons capable of defeating him, and he will not escape this time. He will be eliminated for good!"
Following Eddie Brock's report, the internet buzzed with a multitude of voices.
First were the supporters of the White-Haired Mutant, most of whom were fearful of retribution in case he took over the world. They were posting online:
"I'll always support the White-Haired Mutant; he'll defeat the incompetent military and government!"
But privately, they wished for his demise.
Beyond this group, there were also the absolute supporters of the White-Haired Mutant. Aside from a few fanatic civilians, most were mutants who had experienced persecution by the authorities in one way or another.
They posted:
"The incompetent government will be overthrown by our savior, who will lead us to a world where mutants are no longer persecuted!"
"Yes, the savior will guide us to vengeance! Long live the savior!"
On the other side, the opponents of the White-Haired Mutant continuously argued online, claiming that he would soon die under the combined assault of the X-Men and the government. They celebrated, imagining that once he was dead, peace would return to the world, and those wretched mutants would ultimately amount to nothing.
In a hidden room somewhere, Polaris and her comrades were also watching the news broadcast. Her companions wanted to help Alex, but Polaris stopped them.
When questioned, she could only say, "Your powers are too weak. If you rush in, you won't help the savior; you'll just cause trouble for him."
Finally, her comrades heeded her explanation.
...
In another hidden room, Magneto watched Eddie Brock's broadcast and spoke to the Brotherhood:
"We must act as well. This is our chance to eradicate humanity. Since Charles wants to stop the White-Haired Mutant and prevent a war between mutants and humans, we will push for it instead! The future of this world belongs to mutants; we are the rulers of tomorrow!"
Behind him, the members of the Brotherhood cheered wildly. They had long awaited the future Magneto had described, and now was the closest they had ever been to that reality!
...
Alex, unaware of the chaos unfolding online, would not have cared even if he had known. Whether people supported or opposed him, he would ignore it all. He acted only for himself.
Arriving at yet another military base, just as Alex was about to destroy it completely, he suddenly looked off into the distance, his smile growing wider with delight.
It seemed the confident military had made its next move!
He stretched out his hand, summoning a blue-black void and a black-red singularity that quickly merged into a terrifying purple.
He decided to give them a welcoming gift.
The horrifying purple sphere tore through space, hurtling towards the two hundred Sentinel robots speeding toward him!
