Chapter 35: Send Painters Into Madness
Zhao Lifei walked out of the banquet and into the night, her breaths coming out in short pants. She shivered upon feeling the cold embrace of the chilly night sky. She was glad to have walked out of the back entrance, instead of the front. If the paparazzi saw her like this, they would surely go to town with her bad image.
Tonight, the moon was at its fullest. Because the banquet was held outside of the skyscraper city, it was easier to see the stars at night. The night sky was speckled with hundreds of stars and luckily for it, there weren’t any heavy clouds tonight.
Without anything hiding the glow of the moon, it casts a pale light upon Zhao Lifei. With her sullen expression, ripped dress, slightly messy hair, and dark circles, she looked like a fallen Goddess.
Standing at the doorway of the exit, completely entranced by her, was Yang Feng. He stared at her, lips slightly parted at the gorgeous woman standing a few meters away from him.
Her ponytail was slightly swaying in the wind, her face tilted upwards, and her eyes were closed. Her long lashes framed her cheeks and her rosy lips were slightly parted. Her arms were securely wrapped around her stomach, sheltering it from the freezing cold.
Yang Feng felt his throat run dry at the scene before him. It looked as if it had walked right out of a beautiful painting, the scene itself was enough to send painters into madness. How can one look so mesmerizing, yet so painfully broken?
Not wanting to disturb her space, Yang Feng patiently waited for her to regain her composure. Leaning on the wall with his hands tucked into his dress pants, he hid in the shadows and quietly watched over her.
Yang Feng’s usual distant and abnormally indifferent expression was gone. In its replacement was a gaze filled with warmth and sympathy for the woman standing not far from him.
She was doing so good at gathering her wits and thoughts together, he was quietly complimenting her. He noted the way she deeply breathed through her nose and breathed out of her mouth to clear her thoughts. Was that her coping mechanism?
Yang Feng glanced at his watch and frowned. She had been standing in the freezing cold for ten minutes now. It was time to head back inside. He quickly texted his Hu Wei to meet them in the back entrance.
When Yang Feng stood up straighter, Zhao Lifei began to walk towards the exit. He watched her from the shadows and his body suddenly jolted forward when she swayed, stumbling over her footsteps, and nearly collapsing onto the ground.
He caught her just in time for her body to slump against his. He grabbed her shoulders in hopes of steadying her footsteps. Just then, he realized something was wrong. Her skin felt icy to the touch, but her cheeks were red with warmth.
"Zhao Lifei?" He was surprised when her leg suddenly gave out from underneath her and she collapsed onto his chest. Her eyes were painfully squeezed tight and her breathing was abnormally quick.
Worriedly, he placed the suit jacket back onto her shoulders. Then, he covered her with the black coat to ensure her body temperature was warm.
As he held her by her slender waist, he was surprised at how small it was. Did she properly feed herself?
"Hey, are you alright?" Yang Feng asked, lightly shaking her. He grew increasingly worried when she didn’t respond to him. Pressing a hand to her forehead and then placing it back onto his, he was mortified to find out how hot it was.
She has a fever.
"Fuck!" Yang Feng cursed under his breath at the startling realization.
In the blink of an eye, he shifted their position and lifted her up in his arms, carrying her like a Princess. He held her a bit too high, to the point of her cheeks were resting on his shoulders, securely tucked underneath his neck, but Yang Feng didn’t mind it.
He ignored the arctic wind that blew at him. Wearing nothing but a dress-shirt, there was nothing providing him with warmth, but he didn’t mind. As long as the woman in his arms was secure and warm, he was willing to sacrifice his body temperature.
Yang Feng didn’t know how anxious he was until he felt his hands lightly shake in fear. Ignoring all sorts of public protocol, not caring if he was caught by paparazzi or not, he rushed out of the black entrance.
Using his long legs to his advantage, he closed the distance between him and the black Maybach waiting for him.
Hu Wei was stunned to see a beautiful woman in his Master’s arms. His Boss has never carried someone so intimately! He quickly climbed out of the car to hold the door open for them.
"Speed to First Hospital now!" Yang Feng ordered, not caring if his driver broke the speeding laws.
He didn’t mind the endless tickets that might pile up from this car ride. Right now, he only cared about Zhao Lifei whose breathing was heartwrenching quick. Every few seconds, she would moan out in pain and the quiet noise was enough to cause a prickling pain to his chest.
Tightly clenching his jaw, Yang Feng blamed himself for not carefully watching over her. ’She was standing right there. How could I be so blind to not see she was in pain?!’ He scolded himself. In the car, he unconsciously pulled her closer to him.
"Sir, we’re here." Hu Wei spoke up.
Yang Feng climbed out of the car and rushed Zhao Lifei into the hospital.
When his Boss left, Hu Wei sighed in relief. Lifting his head, he stared at the disappearing form of Yang Feng.
Hu Wei worked with Yang Feng for over a decade now. He had never seen his Boss hold someone with as much care and tenderness as tonight.
