MMORPG: Genesis

First Quest

First Quest

"Is there something wrong with me?" John asked, looking over his body the same way he did when he thought he had a tree growing inside of him.

Mossy giggled seeing his silly action of checking if he was hurt anywhere before saying.

"Silly kid, you won't find the issue on the outside, it's the inside, the magic aura radiating from you is too powerful and feels too strange to be from a human, I mean it's even greater than these two idiots." Mossy explained while pointing at the two guards.

"What does that mean?" John asked confused

"It's the reason why I thought that you were an elf with a disease rather than a human, I admit I made a slight mistake there because I now realize you are indeed a human."

"Your magical power is too strong for a human and more in line with an elf, however the feeling it gives off is completely different from the elves."

"The feeling?" John asked, tilting his head.

"Yes, as you mature and your mana circuits form in your body, your body absorbs the ambient mana in the air around you to build your mana circuits." Mossy began to explain.

"This is why it takes so many years before your body is strong enough to perform magic, if someone even has a mana root in them which not all do of course."

"Now the ambient mana that is absorbed by your body takes on the traits and feelings of the location one grew up in according to the books I have read."

"For example, the elves almost always grow up in the forest, so their mana has more of a nature feel to it, like when you're sleeping on grass in the middle of a forest."

"The Draconian's however have mana that feels more like the sky and the freedom of the wind since they spend so much of their time flying around the mountains that are their natural home."

"The Dwarfs mana feels like the stone in which they live under, hard, stubborn and steadfast."

"The Orc's, on the other hand, their mana feels wild and untamed since they spend most of their time training and growing stronger."

"The human mana feels dark and foreboding, like they are scheming or plotting something, which is believed to be the reason humans are the only one of the five race's that has so far been able to use necromancy."

"Necromancy? That's a thing?" John asked, surprised.

"It is and before you start jumping to conclusions let me tell you, magic itself is not evil, it is the person who wields and uses the magic that determines if it will be good or evil."

"For example, in the past there have in fact been necromancers who used their powers for good and helped the dead move onto the afterlife, while there have also been evil clerics or other healers who use their healing powers to prolong the suffering of their victims."

"So, my magic should feel like other humans, dark and foreboding, yes?" John asked though he did not like that idea.

"That should be the case but it's not, this is why I confused you as a sick elf before." Mossy continued.

"You magic is a strange mixture, it's like a group of different races are jumbled up together."

"I definitely feel the dark aspect, but it's more dreary than scheming, then I feel the nature of the elves as if you did not live in the city like other humans."

"There is the Orc's wildness as if you have been fighting for something most of your life."

"The Draconian's feeling of the wind as if you spent more of your time outside."

"There is also the stubbornness you normally see only in the Dwarfs." Mossy finished as she looked at John as if he was a new specimen for her to study.

"So, you're saying that your life's experiences determine the way your magic feels to others?" John asked.

"That's indeed one way to put it, yes." Mossy said, nodding.

There was silence for a moment as John realized that the feeling Mossy got from him made sense if one's past experiences did affect how one's mana felt to others.

"So anyway, kido what are you standing out here for?" Mossy decided to ask all of a sudden.

It was Beluar who answered.

"The boy claims to have been told to come here by someone named Tanelia, but he has no letter of introduction."

"Tanelia? You mean that Druid from a couple of years ago?" Mossy asked.

"Honestly I am unsure if she was a Druid or not, we met by chance and after assisting each other she advised that I come here to learn to be an adventurer before we parted." John said making up some bullshit story, though after thinking about it for a moment it was kind of correct since Tanelia did indeed invite him somewhere to begin his life in Genesis.

"Hmm and with no letter of introduction or invitation an individual from a foreign continent can't enter our towns or cities." Mossy mumbled before she thought of something.

"Hey, I know, back then Tanelia used to help me gather materials for my alchemy, if you did the same and assisted me in gathering what I was heading out into the forest for then I could reward you with a letter of invite to Yesta Village."
