Chapter 147: Chapter 34: Gawain's Deal???
In the classroom, Sumika was trying to get Lancelot's attention, but because of her posting images on the forum, he began to ignore her and instead talked to Edward and Maria, causing the cute girl to get jealous.
Today's lesson was regarding the choice of mentors and the deadline that was fast approaching for the first Ranking Tournament of the year. So, he needed to select his mentor by the end of the week, as did many of the elite students.
This was a luxury because the non-elite were only given a shared mentor and coach, which meant their performance would be significantly lower.
I almost forgot with how busy I was and the fact I wasn't in the position to find one in the past...
Who would approach me in the last days? If I were to win, the mentor would also gain a great benefit package and help from the academy to improve their territory for free.
Most of the elite-level instructors became like demons in the last week... offering all kinds of benefits to try to lure their chosen students.
Even Sumika has three teachers competing to take her on as a student, but she told me she chose an old female pervert who seems to be close to her grandfather's rival, a female who uses the dual sword style and came here chasing her widower grandfather.
The instructor's name is Miss Fujioka, and Sumika said she has been interested in her grandfather for over forty years and wants to marry him—but her grandfather is stubborn and refuses her advances.
She seems to be using Sumika to get close to him, but the crazy little monkey is happy to help and doesn't care about her grandfather's struggles!
Guinevere was going to choose a member of her family. Alas, it's great when your mother is the empress, and she can teach privately on a level beyond even Merlin could. She did ask if I wanted to join, but sadly... I was a little scared of her mother. That woman was too strong, wild and unpredictable!
When I first won the chance, my target was going to be Merlin... But I've come to realise that there isn't much I can learn from him, and his speciality is cowardice. Plus, if I do well, he will chase me down himself...
So, I will pick the woman I want to become stronger and help advance further while there is still time.
My eyes watched as Evaine began to teach the lesson, her eyes scanning the room before looking at me and seeming angry.
"Alright, everyone, today we will be discussing the mentors you should choose. As you know, it is compulsory to pick one. You will not be able to participate unless you are selected, and those who fail to choose a mentor will be assigned one by the academy."
Evaine explained as Sumika raised her hand with a smile, but Guinevere pulled her down as Evaine glared at her, "You will be assigned to a low-ranked teacher unless you can persuade another high-ranking instructor to take you in, so please consider this seriously."
Sumika seemed to understand that she messed up as Evaine returned to teaching the lecture, but Lancelot was deep in thought—if she was being like this now, would she really accept his nomination? It was true since he took her virginity, they hadn't spent much time together...
I really need to manage my time better...
Unlike his other women, who were normally in the same territory during Avalon, Evaine could only interact with him at the academy. It made Lancelot feel a little guilty...
After class, Evaine immediately left with her assistant teacher, ignoring Sumika's cries as she waved her hand, running after her with Guinevere, Maria and Edward laughing at her behaviour as Lancelot sighed with a troubled expression.
Maria pulled on his cuff, and she looked bright red. "Lunch... come?" The poor girl bit her cute pink tongue as she trembled, looking embarrassed, while behind her, Edward and Laura were shocked, watching with interest.
"Can you come with me somewhere first? Maybe we could buy something light and eat together?"
"Eh...Mm.... okay."
Maria nodded shyly as Lancelot smiled, turning to Edward, who was giving him a thumbs up, before Laura slapped the back of his head, waved at him and mouthed the words, take care of her—she's innocent! As the pair left for the cafeteria alone.
Lancelot took Maria's soft, cool hand as they left the classroom.
He had grown a soft spot for this little fairy girl, and it seemed that when the fairy queen possessed her body, she remembered the things said.
At first, her hand was frozen, but after they headed towards Evaine's office, her grasp became softer, along with her deep breaths and rapidly beating heart calming down.
"Okay, thanks for coming with me. Do you want to come inside or wait here?" He asked with a slow, gentle tone as if not to scare a trembling rabbit.
"Mm.... follow?" Her beautiful sapphire eyes glistened as she looked up at him with her glossy lips.
Oh god... I want to marry this cute creature!
Shaking his head, he knocked on the door of Evaine's office, only to enjoy the sound of her seeming to panic and start cleaning or throwing things around. After a few minutes, she finally said, "Come in!"
Opening the door, Lancelot saw Evaine wearing glasses while tidying her desk, pretending to do paperwork as she looked at him with a flushed face and then at Maria, who clung to his cuff and frowned.
"Yo, Evaine. I came to ask you about becoming my mentor!" Lancelot tried to play it off, ignoring the daggers from her eyes that made the poor ice rabbit tremble and hug him tighter.
"Didn't you already get an offer from Gawain?" Evaine asked with a sharp tone as Lancelot seemed stunned—he hadn't heard of any such offer.
"No... Gawain never offered me anything. Is there anyone else who would want to mentor me?" Lancelot asked, confused—Evaine slammed her desk with a furious face, shocking Maria as she hid behind him while Lancelot remained calm.
"Of course, there is an idiot! Why did you think otherwise? Gawain, Merlin, Me and many others are eager to tutor you! Don't you know how popular you are?"
Evaine exploded as Lancelot scratched his head and sat down, pulling Maria onto his lap and embracing her soft body as she calmed down.
"Lancelot... Do you not understand how unbelievable it is for a first-year to wound a second year in their first week seriously?"
" You might have been seen originally as another possible strong lord, but the actions you made... beating Arthur, crushing the nobles, seducing the princess... and defeating me." Evaine gritted her teeth as Lancelot patted Maria's head, tickling her ear and making her blush as Evaine stared angrily at him.
"All these actions made you stand out from the rest and become someone who all the top families are watching. The fact you are from an old Gaelic Noble house, a Duke house that has all the old nobles routing for you! To revive the old families. So why do you think you don't have offers?!
Idiot!" Evaine finished as Lancelot sat there stunned before Maria hugged his neck, rubbing against him as he patted her head.
"Oh..."
"It's no Oh! Your life is in danger! The current nobles hate you—they want you dead, to crush you, no matter what... please stay safe in this competition because, for you, it will be a wheel battle, and they are going to try and clip your wings!"
Evaine's love and affection for him was obvious as she became more animated—it warmed his heart and caused Maria to feel shy, but her eyes were serious as she understood something...
Her family were new nobles... and her father might be one of the enemies, but she would NEVER betray her first love... Lancelot was too enamoured with Evaine to notice the subtle, slow changes in Maria as she watched him with a more convicted gaze.
"I will ask once, why do you choose me? Is it because we've had sex, and you're my lover?" Evaine seemed to forget Maria too because of how cute and silent she was, or rather, the fairy queen was casting a fairy spell to lower the tangibility of her master.
It allowed Lancelot to focus solely on Evaine as he reached out, taking her hand, surprising the beauty who flinched.
"Because you are the strongest teacher, and I trust you—you aren't greedy and want to use me like Merlin. I have loved you longer than I can remember—when I was in my lowest moments, you were there..." Suddenly, he stopped, realising he had begun to speak about the past and felt a little stupid.
"Ah... and I died, leaving you alone, right?" Evaine asked with a sad expression—Lancelot froze, looking at her, who began to shed tears down her cheeks, causing him to feel confused...
"How.... Why!?"
"The moment you finished inside me, countless memories, thoughts and feelings seemed to sprout inside me... a world I hadn't seen, territories and monsters that don't even exist..." Evaine's confession caused Lancelot to shudder. Did this mean it would happen for all those he was related to if he connected with them?
Then what did Rena see? What did Guinevere see? He began to feel a sense of unease, wanting to know who or what it would affect...
The scene of Maria dying would it be transferred? What about if he slept with Marianne, and she saw her tragic end...
"Lancelot." A gentle, cool voice sounded as two soft hands wrapped around his cheeks, causing Evaine to look stunned as she forgot the girl was here!
"Lancelot, don't worry. it will be okay!" Maria seemed different than usual—her eyes were glowing brilliant blue as she smiled, "Maria will be your ally if you will accept a noble whose family ousted yours."
Maria's declaration stunned Lancelot as Evaine's eyes widened—this little girl... she is actually the granddaughter of Lord Ammon, one of the nobles who destroyed Lancelot's family and pushed them into ruin...
But thanks to her words, Lancelot could part himself from the tragic and twisted thoughts of what might happen in the future. Instead, he cupped her chin, confused at this cute little girl's changes all the time. "You will become the shame of your family, you know?"
Maria nodded with a serious gaze—her eyes were determined as Lancelot was unquestionable, and Evaine could see it, causing her to feel a little jealous, but the change in this little girl was so drastic!
"Then you become family?"
She tilted her head as the blue glow began to fade—her lips quivered, and her face turned bright red. Evaine could only watch as the shortstack with blue hair seduced her man so easily before her eyes.
