I Sting (Pokemon Poison Type Specialist)

Chapter 102

Chapter 102

Virah gave Whitney a side glance for a brief moment, for a while now, the pinkette's eyes had stayed on the forest where Grene went into to train after parting with them.

"Whitney, she'll be fine," Virah reassured her friend with a tired sigh, when Whitney's mind was stuck on something, you bet she'd keep thinking about it until she's satisfied.

Which in this particular case was kind of impossible since Grene would get mad at them if they go inside of the forest to look for her- the only real course of action that will satisfy Whitney's concern.

Virah decided to hit two birds with one stone by going with Whitney and keeping her mind off of things while letting Grene train on her own- it was a good plan right as long as she got Whitney to stop worrying about the martial artist.

"But what if she gets lost? Or finds herself in a fight she can't run from? What'll happen then?" Whitney retorted in concern, the question directed at everyone and everything rather than just Virah.

Unfortunately, out of all the things the question was directed to, only one person answered, "she'll be fine, Whitney, we've lived in a forest for one month remember? Even if Grene stays from the mapped out path she won't get harmed,"

"Yeah but…" Whitney gave the forest a longing glance.

"Just let her be for now, she'll be fine on her own, she's strong like that," Virah's comforting words finally did the trick and the pinkette let out a sigh.

"Alright," Whitney conceded, "I'll let her be," she turned her focus at Virah, "what are we doing?"

Whitney still didn't sound upbeat, but that was fine, Virah knew that Whitney will slowly warm up to the idea of Grene being safe now that Virah convinced her to stop thinking about it.

"I'm going to study Mareep," Virah answered without missing a beat.

Why Mareep? Because she wanted to know the exact voltage and amps their fur produced. Gathering more data for her thunder dust was an important decision for her to make if she wanted to use it on non-Aura boosted humans, and she deemed that a Mareep's Static Ability was a good place to start.

'Any Pokemon with that ability will do actually,' Virah considered, 'but Mareeps are the best for gathering data since there's so many of them around Johto,'

"So we're going to find a herd?" Whitney asked.

"Yeah," Virah nodded, "there's probably some around here, maybe they're protected by a Flaaffy or even an Ampharos, but those guys are docile right as long as we don't do anything so I think we should be fine,"

Gathering data from a Flaaffy was good too, and an Ampharos can hardly be found in the "shallow" parts of a route but there's a possibility that there's one sitting around the area. Probably.

Virah led Whitney around the area until they found a decently sized group of electric sheep grazing in some tall grass, there wasn't a Flaaffy or Ampharos to be found near them, which was unfortunate but Virah thought it made some sense.

After all, there aren't any real predators here that could hunt and threaten a large group of Electric Types without paying a heavy price for it.

For the most part, the Mareep were docile and their attitude barely changed even as Whitney charged forward with a squeal to start hugging them.

It seems that the pinkette had already forgotten about Grene after only a few seconds of playing with her team and the Mareep willing to accommodate her.

Virah, meanwhile, took out her Pokedex, she scanned one of the Mareeps and as the encyclopedia opened up to reveal pages worth of information on the species, Virah looked around the meadow, wondering if the place was electrically charged.

It most likely was, seeing as she saw a pair of Mareep rubbing against each other, though none of that showed physically.

She grabbed a tool from her bag, one that measured the electricity a Pokemon produces while reading about the power output of a standard Mareep from her Pokedex.

She knew that the device in her hands most likely contains all the information she needed to know about the Pokemon in front of her but that didn't deter Virah from conducting her own experiments.

She sat down as her tool measured the volts and amps coming from a Mareep's fur, while waiting for it to finish, she opened a page from her Pokedex to start writing down her logs.

She started by putting in the information of her whereabouts, followed by the Pokemon she chose to conduct studies to, and then finished it with an open ended sentence that described what she was planning on doing to conduct said study.

Once her tool finished its measurements, she moved on to the next Mareep, and then the next, and then the next, until she had a decent table of gathered data that, for the most part, bordered on "slightly below average" and "slightly above average" when it came to the energy production of a typical Mareep.

The data in her hands meant that most of them were healthy, an expected outcome given that Pokemon rarely, if ever, let themselves become malnourished.

For a creature that lives a life of constant fighting, the smallest fraction of weakness can mean life and death.

Virah went on to measure a few more Mareeps, doing so while feeding them for appeasement.

Once she thought she had enough, she put her tags back inside her bag and rearranged the data table on her Pokedex with power output that went from highest to lowest.

She did a bit of math to calculate the general power output of the Static Ability, then compared her results to the one found within her Pokedex, and after she confirmed that her data was, in fact, correct, she put down her Pokedex to start doing the tasks she was given by the CEO of Eggtech.

Virah put out all the tools provided to her, such as a microscope, needles, as well as a device used to scan and digitalize blood. Following that, she also took out tools used to measure the adrenaline in a Pokemon's blood stream.

A lot of her tools involved microscopic stuff, which she thought was a sign that Eggtech may be grooming her to become a microbiologist, a niche that's often found to be rarely filled in the Professor scene.

If that's what Eggtech wanted her to be, Virah thought to fulfill it given that it'll guarantee her a job in the future.

'If I fail as an Elite Trainer that is,' Virah thought confidently, she was glum about her prospects at becoming a professional trainer but that didn't mean she didn't want to try and going at it.

She'll do well, that much was clear when someone looks at her current track record.

Her win to loss ratio, the official one, not the petty school fights she's been in so far, almost had nothing on it but the fact that she managed to beat a Challenge Tier gym battle in her first attempt was something of a feat that only belonged to promising young trainers.

The fact that she had a sponsorship from a well known breeding company at her age also told magnitudes of her profiency as a trainer.

Virah knew she had eyes on her, and she thought that she'll meet their expectations, the high ones, head on.
