Chapter 136: Vs Rio Ave IX
Chapter 136: Vs Rio Ave IX
Telles received the ball from Pepe just a few yards after the midfield line on the left side of the pitch and looking around for the best option for a pass, he locked eyes with Jason on the left side of the pitch and just about three meters away from the Rio Ave box.
In that moment, he immediately noticed and understood Jason’s intention to run into the box so he waited for Jason to make his move.
Jason who was being tightly marked by the Rio Ave left-back suddenly made a run as if to run back towards the midfield and the Rio Ave left-back immediately made to chase after him, but immediately, Jason changed his direction and darted toward the Rio Ave box, surprising the Rio Ave left-back and almost making him slip.
Luckily for the Rio Ave left-back, he managed to keep himself on his feet and immediately tried to chase after Jason, but there was already a bit of a distance between them which was Jason’s intention and Jason was now free to receive a pass from Telles.
Telles who had been waiting immediately sent the ball Jason’s way, but he slightly miscalculated the distance as he whipped the ball in Jason’s direction.
Jason who was advancing into the Rio Ave 18-yard box while keeping his eyes on the ball suddenly noticed that the ball wouldn’t drop into his path just as he was expecting, but would probably land just behind him considering the pace he was running at.
Unfortunately, it was a bit too late to change his pace as that would throw off the whole attack, so he could only find a way to improvise on the attack, or the goal-scoring chance would disappear just as quickly as it appeared.
Suddenly, Jason noticed Fabio Viera advancing towards the Rio Ave 18-yard box and quickly calculating that Viera would be close enough when the ball reached him, he immediately came up with a daring idea, an idea that was only possible because of his expertise in the martial arts field.
He kept advancing while the ball approached him and when the ball finally was close enough, he made his move.Lowering his center of gravity, he smashed his left foot into the ground and used his momentum to spin himself as if he was going to make a roundhouse kick despite the fact that he was still in motion, this sudden move threw him off balance and it was clear that he would fall once the momentum from the spin was over, but that didn’t matter as he had already achieved his aim.
Still in the spinning motion, he slowed slightly his pace to match the ball and then used the undersole of his soccer boots to kick the ball toward Fabio Viera.
He fell on his back immediately after and tumbled over, but the ball was already on its way to Fabio Viera who caught the ball on his chest despite his surprise at Jason’s sudden pass and the way he even managed to pull it off.
Catching the ball on his chest, he pushed the ball slightly forward with his chest and then caught the ball with a thunderous volley before the ball could reach the floor.
The ball smashed past the Rio Ave goalkeeper who despite having managed to make a dive for the ball, was not able to prevent the ball from going.
{UNBELIEVABLE! JUST UNBELIEVABLE!!!}
{What a move!}
{What a pass!}
{What a goal!}
{A potential Goal-of-the-Season contender and with it Porto have once again smashed themselves into the lead in the dying minutes of the game!} The commentator went wild with his words just like the crowd went wild with their voices, their noise tearing through the roof and shaking the stadium.
Fabio Viera himself was wild as he jumped to his feet and ran at Jason and jumped on him, despite the fact that Jason himself was just standing up.
Jason didn’t even have the time to protest before other members of the team began piling on them, squeezing out the last of the air in his lungs, but for the moment he didn’t care as he was also happy and had an even greater enthusiasm than they did.
The only reason why he wasn’t running down the sidelines to celebrate with the fans was because he wasn’t the one who scored the goal… and well, the fact that he was currently being used as the foundation for the “Tower of Babel” made by his teammates.
For the next few seconds, everyone who was a supporter of the team in blue and white displayed their joy and excitement at going ahead and how they had done it.
This wasn’t happening only in the stadium, but in other places in the city of Porto as well as over Portugal.
Porto fans all over the world were screaming in front of their TVs and phones… of course, there was also another set of people who were screaming in happiness as they watched the Porto team take the lead.
Those people were the “Sport games analysts” who risked their salaries every day while predicting sports games, so Porto taking the lead in a game that seemed destined to destroy their betting slips was guaranteed to make them ecstatic, so they joined the celebrations.
Back at the stadium…
No matter how ecstatic the players were, they still had to break up their celebrations as the game was still not over and they still had one last hurdle to clear before they could head home happily with the win
They had to protect their lead against the Rio Ave team for the next few minutes and this was not going to be an easy task, but the Porto team was up for it.
The two teams were soon back in their halves of the field and the match kicked off once again.
The Rio Ave team completely gave up on defending and attacked the Porto team in droves.
They were already losing so why bother trying to defend?
It was clear that the Porto team was under pressure, but they managed to hold on till the assistant referee held up the board on the sidelines, but the number of extra minutes to be added didn’t make the Porto players able to breathe a sigh of relief and they put more focus on keeping out the desperate Rio Ave team as they had been given four extra minutes to cope against their desperate opponents.
Unfortunately for them, disaster soon struck in the form of a miscalculated challenge on a Rio Ave player in the Porto 18-yard box.
*Fweeeeeeee*
The referee’s whistle immediately let them know that their blunder had not gone unnoticed by the referee and he was already running at them with his hand pointed at the spot.
