God of Blackfield

Chapter 417: What Is This? (2)

In this kind of operation, speed was essential to survival. After all, they would have to shoot enemies down while charging straight ahead. Fortunately, Kang Chan’s team was composed of South Korea’s strongest elites. None of his men were inexperienced and untrained enough to stumble in a battle like this.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

Along with the gunshots that rang out from Seok Kang-Ho’s right, they heard enemies drop dead to the ground.

Woosh! Woosh!

Woo Hee-Seung charged at the wall with another soldier, then pressed his back against it and clasped his hands in front of him. The other soldier stood to his right in a similar stance.

Soon, Kang Chan stepped on their hands, and they lifted him as if throwing him over.

Swish!

Kang Chan fired three shots before hooking his arm over the wall. Seok Kang-Ho clung to the wall to his right, and Gérard climbed up to his left.

Woosh! Woosh! Woosh!

The rest of the soldiers vaulted over the wall with twenty-meter gaps in between. Silhouettes were now flickering in the windows of the building.

Swish! Swish! Swish! Swish!

Click!

“What the fu—?” said one of the enemies.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Thud!

The foreheads of those who had opened the door were blown off.

Woosh! Woosh!

In less than thirty seconds, they had swiftly infiltrated their enemy’s hideout. All the sacrifices they had made in previous operations had forged them into the unmatched warriors they were today.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

The soldiers cleanly pierced the foreheads of the enemies who came into their sights with a single shot.

With his rifle at the ready, Kang Chan kicked the door open. His men followed closely behind.

Woosh! Woosh! Woosh!

As soon as they entered, women dressed in tacky hanbok and western-style dresses screamed at the top of their lungs.

Aaaaaaah!”

These old men’s antics are disgusting!

On the table were bottles of whiskey and glasses, along with some disgusting snacks.

They dare call themselves soldiers while doing fucked-up shit like this?!

Bang! Bang!

Kang Chan drew his pistol and shot the bewildered men in their foreheads.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

Aaah!”

His men opened fire as soon as they barged in as well. They kept the women unharmed, but the women still screamed so loudly that it seemed as if their throats were about to tear.

Click! Click! Click!

Kang Chan aimed at every corner and blind spot. After clearing the area, he gestured to Gérard to keep watch and then signaled Seok Kang-Ho to head upstairs.

An old soldier came into view holding a pistol, but Kang Chan immediately shot him in the forehead. Seok Kang-Ho then blew off the head of the enemy who was right behind the old soldier.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Thud! Thud! Thud!

After the two bodies fell down the stairs, Kang Chan and his men headed up to the second floor. Compared to the first floor, the living room here had a far more quiet atmosphere.

Click! Click!

Woo Hee-Seung and another soldier crouched, their rifles aimed ahead.

Huff. Huff.

Kang Chan nodded at Seok Kang-Ho, who was standing by the door.

‘One! Two!’

Seok Kang-Ho kicked the door open, and Kang Chan charged in.

Bang! Bang!

A woman covered in a blanket screamed her heart out.

Aaaaaaaaah!”

Seok Kang-Ho threw the weapon of the man they had just shot into the living room and searched the area. He then nodded at Kang Chan, informing him that the room was clear.

Click!

Bang! Bang! Thud! Thud!

Gunshots echoed from the living room. Someone was killed while exiting the room. When Kang Chan ran out, an old man, barely wearing pants, lay on the floor with another similarly dressed man.

What were these two bastards doing?

Kang Chan pushed the thought aside. It wasn’t important right now.

Kang Chan stood in front of the next room, and Seok Kang-Ho positioned himself beside the door.

With a nod from Seok Kang-Ho, Kang Chan smirked and burst into the room.

Bang! Woosh! Click!

Bastard!

A man, unmistakably Jewish, sat arrogantly in a single-seater sofa, smoking a cigarette. Kang Chan gestured to Seok Kang-Ho with a nod. It was a signal to clear the remaining rooms with Woo Hee-Seung, and Seok Kang-Ho nodded back and ran out immediately.

“Monsieur Kang?”

“Oui.”

Tabac[1]?”

Bon[2].”

Click.

Keeping his finger on the trigger, Kang Chan slung his rifle onto his shoulder and walked over to the man. He accepted the cigarette and lit it with a lighter.

Gunshots and screams came from the adjacent room.

Click.

Hooo. Ziegfeld?”

“Oui.”

Kang Chan smirked. Ziegfeld exhaled a long puff of smoke and then looked at him, revealing a half-burnt cigarette.

He’s going to die anyway. Letting him finish his cigarette shouldn’t be a problem.

Following Kang Chan’s gaze, Ziegfeld returned the cigarette to his mouth.

“I can offer you half of all my available funds. It’s a substantial amount. I can transfer it to any account you want, be it personal or South Korean.”

Kang Chan shook his head in disinterest. He then took a drag from his cigarette.

Bang! Bang!

Gunshots sounded from a farther room, but no woman screamed this time. Ziegfeld’s eyes twitched slightly.

Hooo. The next Star of David. You’re more than qualified.”

Crazy bastard.

I’m already overwhelmed with what I’m doing; now he wants me to count money too?

Kang Chan shook his head again and took another drag from his cigarette. His cigarette had burned halfway, yet Ziegfeld hadn’t brought his back to his mouth.

Hooo.”

Kang Chan dropped his cigarette on the floor and stomped it out.

No matter how much money you have, once you’re dead, you’ll be dragged out with your hands and feet tied. You won’t even be able to take enough to buy a bowl of pork cutlet with you, so why go through all this trouble to meet like this?

“Ziegfeld.”

The man looked straight at Kang Chan, hiding the fear behind his eyes and refusing to accept defeat.

“You’ll get special treatment,” said Kang Chan.

“Under what conditions?”

“For free.”

‘What the hell?’

Hope and despair flickered in the man’s eyes.

Woosh.

Kang Chan lunged forward, grabbing Ziegfeld by the forehead and chin.

“Yang Dong-Sik sunbae will be waiting for you in hell. If you’re lucky, you might get to see Seoul, and that too will be free of charge.”

“Use my value! Rule the world!” Ziegfeld yelled.

Kang Chan stared directly into his eyes.

“I’d rather have your head.”

Ziegfeld desperately grabbed Kang Chan’s wrists. “Hey!”

“Goodbye, you bastard.”

Snap!

Crack!

Kang Chan broke Ziegfeld’s neck, making him face the ceiling. He then let go, causing Ziegfeld to slump over the armrest of the sofa.

Click!

Motherfuckers like you have to be finished off properly.

Kang Chan shot Ziegfeld in the forehead, neck, and heart.

“Oh! I heard some people have their hearts in their right chest.”

Click! Bang! Thud!

“It feels like a loss to do this for free for someone so rich.”

Swish.

Kang Chan pulled out a bayonet from his ankle.

“Apologize to Director Hwang, Director Song, and our soldiers and agents who died because of you. Just in case you can’t do it in hell, I’ll show you Seoul from here too.”

Shiiik! Shiiik!

“Watch closely this time and never mess with South Korea again!”

Gritting his teeth, Kang Chan decapitated Ziegfeld.

Slice. Slice. Slice.

Seok Kang-Ho, Woo Hee-Seung, and the soldier who had been with them stared at Kang Chan with heavy, sunken eyes from the doorway. He had never done something like this before.

“This is revenge for Yang Dong-Sik sunbae. Hang his head out the window. ”

“Yes, sir.”

The soldier walked over and followed Kang Chan’s order.

“Let’s go. Who knows what those bastards might do.”

Seok Kang-Ho approached and patted Kang Chan, whose eyes were filled with venom. It was Daye’s unique way of telling him to calm down.

Huff. Huff.

Strangely, though, his anger didn’t subside. As he looked at the gruesomely decapitated body, more brutal thoughts came to mind. How could this bastard claim the lives of so many people and bring unbearable pain to even more?

How could he do all that just to be the richest in the world?

“Let’s go.”

Hearing Seok Kang-Ho’s low, subdued voice calmed his emotions a bit.

As they descended the stairs, they saw about six or seven women huddled in the corner, some of which were from the second floor. With all enemies eliminated, Kang Chan pressed the Push-to-Talk button on his radio.

Chk.

“All clear.”

Chk.

“Yes, sir,” Kwak Cheol-Ho replied.

Now the Chinese guy on the bus would make contact, and the enemy would react.

“Daye, I want men covering every window. Come to the main gate after,” ordered Kang Chan.

“Got it.”

“Gérard, you come with me.”

“Oui.”

Kang Chan threw off the top of his Chinese military uniform, slung his rifle over his shoulder, and headed for the main gate.

Vroom! Vroom!

A bus approached from a distance.

Click! Click!

The soldiers on the second-floor windows quickly took aim, while Seok Kang-Ho and Gérard pressed their backs on either side of the main gate. Kang Chan stood right in the middle, keeping the bus in view. It passed by the one they had ridden earlier and stopped right in front of the gate.

Ssshh.

The door opened, and the first person to step out was Yang Bum. Behind him, Chinese soldiers rushed out.

“Well done. A helicopter will be here soon,” Yang Bum told Kang Chan. He then gestured to the Chinese soldiers, who in turn rushed inside.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

Pistol gunshots tore through the silence.

Snap!

Yang Bum shook his head and met Kang Chan’s gaze.

“I have taken care of it. I’ve killed all North Korean insiders and associates who knew about this operation.”

It had been so long since the venom within Kang Chan last refused to subside.

“This is the fate of intelligence bureaus. If any word gets out about this, it will be hard to manage the aftermath,” Yang Bum said.

Somehow, he seemed to hope that Kang Chan would easily accept this. After all, they had dealt finally dealt with Ziegfeld and his North Korean subordinates.

“What about Kim Jong-Do’s promise?”

“Tomorrow, they will officially announce the connection of the Eurasian Rail. I’ll make sure of it.”

In the distance, they began to hear helicopter blades chopping through the air.

Thud, thud, thud, thud!

“I have also contacted the National Intelligence Service. They said that the UDT[3] is on standby.”

At this point, there was no more room for doubt.

“Understood.”

“See you later.”

“Indeed.”

Thud, thud, thud, thud!

An MI-172 helicopter landed in front of the building, sending waves of tremendous winds.

Chk.

“Daye! Lead the team and board the helicopter!” Kang Chan ordered.

Chk.

“Understood!”

Soon after, his men quickly headed to the helicopter.

“Mr. Kang Chan, we’ve dealt with the Star of David, our biggest threat. However, there are still countless tasks ahead. I’ll contact you as soon as I return to China.”

“Understood,” replied Kang Chan.

Yang Bum extended his hand for a handshake, and Kang Chan accepted it with his right hand. Ziegfeld’s blood had dried and become sticky, yet Yang Bum still grasped Kang Chan’s hand without hesitation.

“Today marks the creation of a new order in the world of information. It’s an honor to be a part of this moment.”

Is this really such an important event?

Smirking, Kang Chan nodded and finally headed to the helicopter.

Seok Kang-Ho and Kwak Cheol-Ho, who had been waiting in front of the helicopter, boarded as soon as Kang Chan did.

Thud, thud, thud, thud!

Right before Yang Bum, who was standing strong in the powerful gusts, the helicopter wobbled as it ascended into the sky.

Hwang Byung-San Airborne Special Forces Winter Training Ground.

Moon Jae-Hyun, Go Gun-Woo, Jeon Dae-Geuk, Kim Hyung-Jung, the 606 Special Operations Unit, and the National Intelligence Service's counter-terrorism team waited with tense expressions.

Moon Jae-Hyun glanced at Kim Hyung-Jung.

“They are expected to arrive within five minutes.”

He had answered this question about twenty times already. Unlike his usual self, Moon Jae-Hyun was checking with Kim Hyung-Jung every minute.

Reports had come in that the UDT had received Kang Chan and his men, transferred them to a helicopter, and were now en route. According to the latest update, they would arrive within five minutes.

Why wouldn’t Moon Jae-Hyun know this? A president had to be dignified. He had to show a demeanor worthy of the patriots watching from above. Even so, how could he not feel impatient? It was maddening.

‘What if the helicopter…?’

Filthy and petty thoughts kept crossing his mind.

Kang Chan was an essential figure in South Korea. He was the very man who had revitalized the nation. If necessary, Moon Jae-Hyun would readily give up his position as president for someone like Kang Chan. Though it could seem shameless after sending him into death traps repeatedly, seeing Kang Chan in person was the only thing that could put Moon Jae-Hyun’s mind at ease.

Glancing around, Kim Hyung-Jung reflexively said, “They should only be about four minutes away now…”

Thud, thud, thud, thud!

In the distance, they heard helicopter noises and saw red flashing lights and headlights.

Moon Jae-Hyun quickly rubbed his face with his hands. He should not show excessive emotion.

Thud, thud, thud, thud!

A moment later, the helicopter descended on the helipad in front of the training ground. Despite the fierce wind tousling his hair and clothes, Moon Jae-Hyun remained steadfast.

Not long after, Kang Chan disembarked right before his eyes. He looked tired, but his eyes still glinted ferociously.

Kang Chan, with the face of a beast returning from a fierce battle, walked toward Moon Jae-Hyun after getting off the helicopter. He then immediately bowed his head.

With reddened eyes and emotions suppressed, Moon Jae-Hyun grasped Kang Chan’s hand.

“Assistant Director,” was all he could say.

1. “Cigarette” in French. ☜

2. ”Alright” in French. ☜

3. We believe this stands for Underwater Demolition Team ☜
