Chapter 49: Headmaster is away.
Chapter 49: Headmaster is away.
With the help of the Almighty map that he had entirely memorized, Whittaker reached the office of the Royal Frost Fall Academy Headmaster.
There was no door to the office, rather a large corridor brightened with something not visible to the naked eye. On each side, paintings decorated the walls.
Nothing was visible behind the other end of the corridor. Walking past it all, Whittaker stepped past a teleportation barrier that teleported him to the office.
Inside he saw a pristine table, placed upon which was a three-dimensional model of the Awakened continent.
The globe showcases a massive ocean of mana revolving around a piece of land. The land was 1/10 the size of the ocean, 90% of it was the ocean of mana while the other 10% was the awakened continent!
A pristine chair was placed behind the table. It was decorated with Snow wolf King (S-ranked) furs.
Sitting in the Headmaster chair was Frankenstein, who patted the head of his contracted magical beast, Infernal Moon Fox while gazing at the portrait of Ashram.
The painting showed the secluded dwelling of a sage.
The chair was turned around, it's back facing Whittaker, but he certainly saw a head full of shiny golden hair locks.
He was confident that it was Dean Frankenstein, because of how the hair was arranged.
Whittaker had halted in his steps, as he was weirded out. He thought,
'Yesterday, I saw him in the Dean's office. Today, I saw him in the nurse's office. Right now, he is in the Headmaster's office. Is Dean Frankenstein a jack of all trades?'
Feeling amused, Whittaker took some steps ahead.
On the other hand, the moment he entered the office, Frankenstein found out about him.
Without turning around to face him, he said in his honeyed tone, "Whittaker, what brings you here?"
What other reasons could it be if not to meet the Headmaster?
Frankenstein didn't use mind-reading as that was rude. Only Headmaster Yeon was shameless enough to do that. In the entire world, a mage using mind reading on other Awakened was considered as a spit on the face.
Such actions lead to fights that can have dreadful consequences, such as death!
"Dean Frankenstein, I wanted to meet with the Headmaster. Can you tell me where he is right now?" Whittaker asked. The secrets of his S-ranked class weapon could only be talked about with Headmaster, and no one else.
From the looks of Frankenstein's angelic features and the fact that he can cast light magic to heal others, Whittaker held a certain belief that Dean Frankenstein had some relations or was a member of the Church of light. That's why he will never disclose sensitive information to the handsome man.
With an angelic smile on his face, Frankenstein replied, "Ah, you have come too late, under the decree of the Emperor of Water, Headmaster Yeon has left the Academy to go to the Central Region and heed the Emperor's call."
At this moment, the Inferno Moon Fox that had been purring under his pats escaped from his grasp and jumped towards Whittaker.
With one swift movement, its paw hit the table, and then it reached in front of Whittaker, gazing at him with pitiful Puppy eyes while extending its paws.
It was saying, 'Pick me up, Daddy!'
Whittaker scratched the sides of his face and picked it up in his embrace. The fox with golden and silver furs rubbed its soft face against his cheek while Frankenstein turned around to face Whittaker.
Under his breath, he swore, 'Shameless betrayer! Discarding the old in the face of a new treasure!'
Foxes were the hardest to contract magical beasts. They will choose death over becoming someone's contract magical beasts. In general, foxes only formed contracts with handsome and beautiful beings, humans or not, as long as their beauty captivated the fox then a contract was certain.
Gashina had been with Frankenstein for a long time, and she has taken him for granted, plus, she was used to his handsome appearance. Whereas Whittaker was certainly a never-seen-before commodity, so she went to play with him.
Whittaker asked while patting the cozy fox, "When will the headmaster be back?"
Seeing the little muffin troubled face, Frankenstein replied, "He probably won't be back for another week or a month. He has handed over the responsibility and authority of Headmaster to me. If you have any trouble or if someone is bothering you, then just tell me and I will take care of it."
From this point, Whittaker determined that the kind-faced Headmaster trust Frankenstein a lot, but he's still troubled over whether he should expose his truth or not, cause if Frankenstein hates blood attribute users with a heart then he will die right away.
'I certainly cherish my life more than power.'
Choosing the second option, Whittaker shakes his head left and right, "No troubles, I just had something personal to talk about with the headmaster. I will take my leave, Dean."
"Sure, good night." Dean Frankenstein replied, gazing at the clock it was already 7:59 p.m.
Putting down the furry fox against her will, Whittaker walks away in distress.
The fox ran back to her man, who she has shamelessly abandoned some seconds ago, no trace of remorse could be seen in her eyes, only tears as the man declined to put up with her.
Tears made his hardened heart softened, and he picked up the shameless female fox in his embrace.
The fox smiled craftily while rubbing against his chest.
Whittaker got out of the Academy's main building. He thought after exhaling a troubled sigh~ 'One month later, the system punishment will come!'
Eyes closed and deep thoughts. Right now, this was his state.
'Headmaster Yeon would have somehow found a way for me to train in the way of battle masters, but now he has gone far away! I need to find a way on my own. The best place to gain knowledge would be..."
His eyes opened and a smile formed on his face, "The library!" He exclaimed and made a run for that place.
