Chapter 524: 523 Exploration
“You guessed it, it’s for her promotion and pay raise. Moreover, during the meeting today, I asked for her opinion in front of everyone, asking her what position she wanted.”
Wen Ran blinked in surprise and looked at Mo Xiuchen’s handsome features, curiously asking, “What did she say?”
Mo Xiuchen lifted his hand slightly, twirling a strand of her hair around his long fingers, answering,
“She said, although she hadn’t been an assistant for long, she enjoyed that job…”
“She means, she wants to come back, continue being your assistant. No, Qin Mu is not a special assistant now. If she comes back, she won’t be an assistant, she should be directly promoted to your secretary, better yet, a personal one.”
For some time, she had been Mo Xiuchen’s personal secretary. These days when she had not been going to the company, Mo Xiuchen’s office desk was vacant. How could Cheng Jia not covet that? But was she eligible to covet it?
“Ha ha, Ranran, you really understand Cheng Jia.”
Mo Xiuchen and Wen Ran conversed in harmonious unison, as if they had returned to the past. All their problems seemed to have faded away at this moment.
Wen Ran also laughed, her elegant eyebrows filled with brightness and beauty, creating a heart-stirring scene under the light of the crystal lamp.
“It’s not that I understand her, but she made it evident. But, have you agreed to her request?”
As Wen Ran asked with a grin, under the crystal light, her clear eyes sparkled with brilliance, creating a charming scene.
“I agreed!”
A smile spread across Mo Xiuchen’s deep eyes of tranquility, “Anyway, I am going to resign. The presidential position will be taken over by Mo Zixuan. He indeed needs a secretary, having Cheng Jia won’t be a problem.”
He had never thought of staying with MS Group forever. Initially entering the company was no more than a move of revenge towards Mo Jingteng, and to deal with Xiao Wenqing. Now, he had done everything he needed to and it was time for him to leave, allowing ‘Hao Chen’ to grow.
“Xiuchen, if Cheng Jia knows what you’re thinking, she will surely be heartbroken. But tonight, she can still have a sweet dream.”
“Then let her be happy first.”
Mo Xiuchen’s deep, hearty laughter spilled from his throat, loosening his arm from Wen Ran’s shoulder. Standing up, he gently said, “Ranran, it’s getting late. I’ll draw the bath for you. After bathing, get some rest.”
“Okay!”
Wen Ran gently responded, her heartbeat skipping a beat as he mentioned drawing the bath. She agreed to stay, but her greatest fear was that Mo Xiuchen would lose control of himself and do something to her.
Despite knowing very well in her heart that they can’t be together, she still feared to fall into his passionate pursuit just because of love.
Mo Xiuchen seemed to sense her hidden worries from her tone. He pursed his lips and strode into the bathroom. After a few minutes of filling the bathtub, he entered the cloakroom, took out her pajamas, stood in the middle of the bedroom, and called out to her, “Ranran, I’ve got your pajamas ready. You can go and take a bath now.”
Wen Ran silently calmed her slightly chaotic heartbeat, rose from her seat, slowly walked up to him. Before she could speak, Mo Xiuchen handed her the pajamas, his voice gentle and warm, “I’ll go to the study to deal with some work. You don’t have to hurry, take your time.”
As soon as he finished his words, he took his long, graceful steps toward the study. Wen Ran was somewhat startled, apparently she didn’t expect him to say that. For a moment, she watched his striking figure as he turned and left.
Once he entered the study, he turned his head to give her a slight smile, pointing to the bathroom, suggesting her to go take the bath. Wen Ran’s eyes flickered slightly and a faint smile spread across her lips.
After the study door was closed, she embraced the pajamas and went into the bathroom to take a bath.
In the steam-filled room, she undressed with mixed feelings and stepped into the bathtub. As she slowly laid down, the hot water engulfed her body, wrapping her in warmth.
Mo Xiuchen’s handsome face emerged in her mind, the brief glimpse of despair in his eyes troubled her. Pain began to spread at the apex of her heart.
During the months of her marriage with Mo Xiuchen, except for the initial indifference, once they had consummated their marriage, their affections warmed up and they often bathed together.
Many times, even when she rejected his advances, he always found reasons to follow her into the bathroom. Eventually, the atmosphere in the bathroom changed…
On any ordinary day, if he hadn’t touched her for a week, he would definitely join her. But today, he actually kept his word and didn’t touch her, going to the study willingly.
Thinking of Mo Xiuchen’s words tonight, Wen Ran was filled with an unexplainable discomfort. Faced with his plea, she was helpless, uncertain of what to do.
His passionate confession made her feel that if she left him, it would be a merciless act that she couldn’t forgive herself for. However, if she didn’t leave and ended up harming him…
Her eyes welled up with tears. Even if she didn’t say it, Mo Xiuchen would figure out the answer sooner or later, and this fear haunted her. If he knew the truth, would he still act this way, not touching her? Or would he force her relentlessly?
Her heart clenched. She bit her lip, shook her head, not allowing herself to think of those uncertainties. She sank lower into the water, submerging herself entirely, enjoying the moment of comfort.
In the study, Mo Xiuchen leaned back in the leather chair, a cigarette sandwiched between his slender fingers. He lit it up but didn’t inhale. It seemed that the smell of smoke and watching the curling smoke rise could bring him some tranquility.
The more Ranran resists his advances, the more likely his guess is. His heart, however, felt as if it had plunged into a bottomless pit, sinking deeper and deeper…
He remembered what Gu Kai said. The results of the examination that Ranran took a few days ago showed a slight improvement compared to last time. As a result, Ranran should’ve been happy, and Ah Kai should’ve supported him even more.
However, surprisingly, he persuaded him to divorce Ranran, with the reason being that he was putting too much pressure on her.
At first, he truly believed that because Ranran had been very agitated with him these days. But the more he thought about it, the less he believed it.
She loved him so much; how could she bear to leave him? She should want to be with him every second of the day, just like him. Even if she couldn’t bear children, even if she possibly couldn’t accompany him until old age, she shouldn’t be so decisive. Keep in mind, the Gu Family was a medical family. Gu Kai and Gu Yan were top figures in the medical world.
He cast a glance at the half-burnt cigarette, took out his mobile phone, and dialed Gu Kai’s number.
