Chapter 479: Divide into 478 groups to search
Behind the spacious desk, Mo Xiuchen’s erect figure grew rigid, every inch of his skin tense.
A layer of frost seemed to condense between his handsome brows. The atmosphere around him was icy and frigid, and the usually large office became freezing cold.
He clenched his mobile phone tightly, a sense of panic rolling in his deeppond-like eyes. As soon as his call was connected, without waiting for Gu Kai to speak, he blurted out anxiously: “Ah Kai, has Ranran called you?”
“No, what’s going on?”
On the other end of the phone, Gu Kai was attending to a patient. Hearing Mo Xiuchen’s voice, he paused momentarily, and then his handsome face changed, his brows furrowing instantly.
Mo Xiuchen’s voice lacked its usual calm and steadiness; anxiety and fear seeped through, disrupting his calm demeanor: “Half an hour ago, Ranran received a phone call. I have no idea what the other party said to her, but she was very emotional and left the company alone. Her mobile phone is switched off.”
At the end of his words, the first sound that came from the phone was not Gu Kai’s voice, but the sound of an object falling. The cup that Gu Kai had just held in his hand slipped from his grasp. Hearing that Ranran had received a call from a stranger and then emotionally left the company, his first response was that Ranran must have learned about her health condition.
The unthinkable event they always feared happened eventually.
He tightly pursed his lips and reproachfully asked over the phone: “Weren’t you supposed to be with Ranran? How could you let her leave the company alone when she was in such an emotional state?”
“She received the phone call when I was not in the office. When I returned, she was gone.”
Mo Xiuchen blamed himself intensely. He had been following her closely these days, accompanying her every moment, in case, she saw or heard anything and became emotionally upset, he could be right there to console her.
He could explain to her right away.
But he had never expected that when he stepped away for a while, it happened to be the moment when she received that phone call.
Things just happened to be so coincidental.
“Ah Kai, has Ranran called you?”
Mo Xiuchen asked anxiously again, hoping against hope that Ranran would call Gu Kai. At least, she would confirm whether the unknown person’s words were true or false, right?
The anger in Gu Kai’s tone intensified:
“If she left without telling you, how would she call me? It must have been someone from Wu Tianyi or Fu Jingyi who called her. Ranran must be feeling terrible now. If she hid away by herself, it would be fine. But if, if she has fallen into the hands of Wu Tianyi and the others, then… We must split up and search for her now, no matter what, we must find Ranran.”
The words that Gu Kai dared not speak sent a wave of suffocation through Mo Xiuchen’s mind.
His grip on the mobile phone tightened even more, his slender knuckles, turning pale in the process.
“Alright, we will split up and search.”
He forcefully suppressed his emotions, his voice low, yet determined.

In the Bai Family home, Bai Xiaoxiao was still sleeping when Luo Haofeng called. She did not sleep well last night and went back to bed after lunch and some reading.
Woken up by the ringing of her mobile phone, she groggily opened her eyes, reached for the phone without even looking at the caller ID, answered it, her voice carrying a hint of sleepiness and softness: “Hello!”
“Xiaoxiao, it’s me. Has Ranran contacted you or came to your house?”
“Ranran? No!”
Hearing the urgency in Luo Haofeng’s words, Bai Xiaoxiao immediately sobered up. She sat up in bed, rubbed her eyes and asked in surprise: “Isn’t Ranran supposed to be at work?”
“She was, but not long ago, she received a phone call and left the company alone. Her mobile phone is now switched off, we can’t find her. Mo Xiuchen is extremely anxious. If she has contacted you, you must tell me right away.”
Luo Haofeng explained the severity of the situation, fearing that Bai Xiaoxiao knew of Ranran’s whereabouts but was deliberately hiding it from them.
No wonder he thought this way. From his point of view, Ranran and Bai Xiaoxiao are as close as sisters. And facing such a situation, Ranran might seek Bai Xiaoxiao to pour out her sadness.
Hearing the agitation and sternness in his tone, Bai Xiaoxiao looked slightly perplexed but retorted: “What phone call did Ranran get? Is it about her family background? Why would Mo Xiuchen leave her alone at the company? She hasn’t contacted me at all. Did she go home, or perhaps, she went to visit her parents’ graves?”
Bai Xiaoxiao’s words were filled with queries and assumptions. Seeing the confusion on Luo Haofeng’s face, he said briefly:
“I don’t know where she has gone just yet. I am going to look for her now. If she contacts you, you must inform me right away.”
Bai Xiaoxiao, equally worried, hurriedly agreed:
“Alright, then you guys hurry up and find her. Ranran must be devastated if she’s found out. You must find her as soon as possible.”
“Don’t worry, I will inform you as soon as there’s any news.”
Luo Haofeng ended up comforting Bai Xiaoxiao. As she was still recovering from a leg injury, she could only worry and couldn’t help with the search. He didn’t want her to fret too much.
Seeing Mo Xiuchen finished his call and walked out of his office, he reminded Bai Xiaoxiao one more time before ending the call.
Without any need for words, Mo Xiuchen could see the answer in his expression. A flicker of disappointment flashed in Mo Xiuchen’s eyes. His lips pressed into a resolute line.
Luo Haofeng forced a smile and said: “Mo Xiuchen, don’t worry too much. Ranran didn’t go to see Bai Xiaoxiao or Gu Kai. Perhaps, she didn’t go to see Wen Jin either. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. She might have just hidden away by herself. That way, there wouldn’t be any danger.”
If the call was made by someone from Wu Tianyi or Fu Jingyi to Ranran, then they might have taken advantage of her emotional state to kidnap her.
However, after such a long time, they still haven’t received a call from Wu Tianyi. Luo Haofeng felt that Ranran was safe. As long as she was safe, the situation had not yet reached its worst.
“Okay!”
Mo Xiuchen’s brows were cold, and worry and self-blame filled his eyes. While they worried about Ranran’s safety, he had more concerns.
Every time he thought of Ranran’s pale face in the video, his heart felt excruciating pain, as if someone was yanking it out. This sharp pain made it hard for him to breathe.
His hands, hanging by his side, suddenly clenched into fists.
As the two walked out of the office, Qin Mu had just finished his call with Wen Jin. His dark eyes scanned Mo Xiuchen and Luo Haofeng. From their expressions, he learned the outcome. His lips twitched into a gentle smile and said:
“I’ve informed Wen Jin and asked him to get Lu Zhiyan’s assistance in finding Wen Ran, we can also check the surveillance footage downstairs to see how Wen Ran left.”
