Chapter 29
C29 – You Are a Genius
“My great-grandfather a fool? I think you’re the real fool here.” Tang Nuolan was fuming. Her great-grandfather had been the only King Stage warrior in the empire centuries ago.
Yet, he claimed to know the seventh level of the White Crane Scripture, which baffled Tang Nuolan.
Her own father didn’t even know the seventh level.
Despite being a Tang family technique, Mo Changyou was intimately familiar with it.
It was as though he had created the White Crane Scripture himself.
Tang Nuolan stared at Mo Changyou in astonishment.
“Is the White Crane Scripture truly a heritage technique from my family?” she questioned inwardly.
“What are you dazed for? The Crane Type is incredibly straightforward. Perhaps your understanding of it is just insufficient. Give it some more thought.” Mo Changyou said, pulling a Universe Pouch from his pocket.
He sketched a white crane with such realism it seemed to come alive.
“What is your name? Which family do you belong to?” Tang Nuolan asked, taken aback by Mo Changyou’s artistry.
“I’m Mo Changyou of the Mo family,” he replied coolly, passing her the drawing of the ancient crane.
Tang Nuolan accepted it and began to channel the White Crane Scripture within her, continuing the conversation with Mo Changyou.
“The Mo family from Black Rock City? Do you know Mo Feng?” Something seemed to click for Tang Nuolan as she spoke.
“If you mean the Second Master from Black Rock City, yes, he’s my father,” Mo Changyou confirmed with a nod.
“Your father?” Tang Nuolan’s expression turned perplexed.
Her father and the Second Master shared a deep bond. They had even joked that if they had children, the kids could become in-laws.
Regrettably, not long after that conversation, Mo Feng was disabled. The once-renowned Second Master of the capital became the empire’s reject.
Tang Nuolan’s father didn’t dwell on it much, but Mo Feng couldn’t let it go. For over a decade, he had never stepped foot in Tang Nuolan’s home.
“Yes, the Second Master is my father,” Mo Changyou reiterated.
At these words, Tang Nuolan couldn’t help but show her confusion.
“But I’ve heard that the Second Master’s son is a good-for-nothing? Not only does he have Grade Nine Talent, but he’s also timid,” Tang Nuolan mused, her doubts creeping in.
In reality, her father had initially been keen on fulfilling the marriage arrangement. Regrettably, he later discovered that the son of the Second Master lacked his father’s remarkable talents. Furthermore, Mo Changyou was already betrothed, prompting Tang Nuolan’s father to abandon the idea.
But was Mo Changyou worthless?
Tang Nuolan couldn’t believe that someone proficient in pills, painting, scriptures, and medicine could be considered worthless. While they conversed, inspired by the ancient crane Mo Changyou had painted, Tang Nuolan flawlessly executed the Crane Type technique. She noticed it flowed seamlessly within her, encountering no resistance whatsoever.
And the Qi Deviation her father warned of? It never materialized.
“Is the seventh level truly as effortless as Mo Changyou claims? Was my great-grandfather actually mistaken?” Despite her reluctance to concede that Mo Changyou might be correct, she couldn’t deny the effectiveness of practicing the method he recommended.
Qi Deviation?
Tang Nuolan noted an uptick in her cultivation level.
“Don’t exert yourself too much right now; regaining your strength is crucial. At the moment, you wouldn’t stand a chance against someone at Body Refining Level 10. I’m going to gather some herbs later—would you care to join me?” Mo Changyou inquired.
Under normal circumstances, Mo Changyou wouldn’t give her the time of day. But in the perilous Darkness Forest, her survival hinged on her strength.
Leaving Tang Nuolan behind would mean her being devoured by wild beasts in less than two hours.
“Alright,” Tang Nuolan agreed, as she had no viable alternatives.
Mo Changyou hoisted Tang Nuolan onto his back and they set off toward the mountain pass. Her scent was pleasantly fragrant, and thanks to Mo Changyou’s exceptional self-control, he remained focused and even found her slightly burdensome.
Little did they know, a mere hundred meters away, two men cloaked in black robes shared a knowing smile, their eyes brimming with murderous intent.
“This youngster is only at Energy Condensation Level 4; he’ll be easy to take down. But the girl he’s carrying does have some appeal,” remarked the man on the left with a malevolent grin.
“Eldest Brother, are you asking for my opinion?” inquired the other assassin.
“Idiot!”
