Chapter 24 - Her Wishful Thinking
"This is our room?" Hera questioned while she twirled in pure excitement eyeing every single wall, every corner of her dorm room in appreciation. It had six separate beds, two small couches, wardrobe, study table, bed lamps, windows, curtains.
Walls were painted pure white, and the beds, pillows, bedspreads, were white as well. Cots, couches, study tables, window sills were brown. Blankets and curtains were in silver-blue. Hera liked the hanging screen in-between each bed acting as a barrier, allowing them a little privacy. The wardrobe had a full-length mirror. Hera instantly fell in love with her new room.
."My goodness! I'm ready to spend my whole life here literally. Like seriously, I never want to leave this place," Hera exclaimed in pure joy. But her delight soon turned into sadness as something broke inside her heart.
'What did I just wish for?'
Her uncle Benson and aunt Liezel's house was never a home for Hera. She used to count the days and pray for the winter and summer vacations to end soon so that she could go back to school. Her Boarding school was no less than a home for her. Because Hunter had been there waiting for her always.
Hunter had promised Hera on her every birthday that he would build a home for her. That's where she was going to live in future after leaving boarding school. Hera was living in her private world of fairy tale he had made her believe in. It had been her only dream to make a home with him.
She'd heard everyone around her say what they want to become when they grow up, some said doctors, some chose business. They talked about modelling, acting, dancing, photography, teaching, etc. But Hera wanted none of it, and she was never good at studies either. Every single time she thought about her future, the only thing she could think of was to marry her Prince Charming, her Hunter.
In her childhood days, whenever her teachers asked what would she want to become, she would proudly announce that she would become somebody's wife. She didn't mind everyone laughing at her then. Nothing mattered because she knew, she wouldn't want to be anything else other than being his wife, and to spend her forever with him.
'That was my only aim, the only ambition, only wish, only desire. To be your wife, Hunter.'
But her wishful thinking proved out to be worthless. A single teardrop escaped her eyelids rolling down her cheek.
'How foolish was I?'
"Wait till you see the bathroom. It's gorgeous, Hera," Brittany exclaimed, and Hera brushed the tear away hastily with the back of her hand before Brittany could notice.
"How come, all of you assigned to stay in the same room again?" Abby asked. Her words were coated with disbelief and jealousy as well. Abby and Hera were of the same age, but still, they never got to be together in class, nor were they lucky to be in the same room as they were in different sections of the same Grade. This year was no different, either.
"Well, you have me to thank, Hera, darling. I requested Mr Rogers to let us share the same room as we did last year and luckily he agreed. It wasn't easy though, I had to butter Mrs Rogers, and in turn, she influenced her Husband's decision without much effort," Celine bragged with a satisfied smile and wiggled her eyebrows at Abby, teasing her.
Hera examined the bedding arrangements as soon as she opened the door and entered inside. She saw four beds and study tables aligned in straight rows in front of her. Its background showed the playgrounds of their school through the huge glass window. She saw two more beds and study tables arranged on the left side of the door.
Hera discovered the couches and the wardrobes fixed on the right side and the door leading to the bathroom.
"Why do we have six beds?" Abby asked, laying her body comfortably on the second last bed in the right corner while Celine sat on the bed next to Abby's, patting the place with the flat of her hand, gesturing Hera to sit next to her.
"Oh, we forgot to tell you. We'll be having two more roommates. The high school dorm room has six roommates in one room," Brittany stood on the opposite side, leaning against one of the study tables as she spoke explaining further. "That last bed in the right corner is mine and Celine took the one next to it," she inclined her head and pointed her finger at Abby before she continued, "Yes, the same one right now Abby is ruining with her constant rolling and mind you, she still didn't take off her shoes."
Scowling, Celine threw a pillow at Abby. Brittany rolled her eyes while Abby threw it back to Celine. Hera shook her head, laughing at them.
"The one on which you and Celine are sitting right now belongs to one of our new roommates, and the bed in the left corner is yours, Hera," Brittany said to which Hera raised her eyebrows. "And, Brittany, why would you choose my bed on my behalf?" Hera asked, and Brittany huffed before answering Hera's question.
"As I said the bed you're sitting on has taken by our new roommate. And the beds this side," she pointed her thumb showing the two beds on the left side of the door where she's standing right now, "The one on my right belongs to Clara and the other one, though unoccupied, I'm sure Clara won't be pleased to have you sleeping next to her. So the only available bed for you is the one in the left corner." Brittany finished and pursed her lips.
Hera sighed and nodded in understanding. How could she forget that Clara was their best friend too? So when Celine requested Mr Rogers to let them all stay in one room, obviously it included Clara as well. She hated Hera, but she still was friends with her other best friends.
Right then, a new girl emerging from the bathroom whom Hera was not familiar with caught her full attention. The girl had hazel eyes, brown hair, cute button nose, and full lips with a pretty face. Her pale skin was glowing under the light. Hera's wandering eyes stopped studying her appearance when the girl smiled at her way.
