Chapter 835 - Taking Their Sweet Time (1)
The couple could only wait. Zhang Liang could brag all he wanted because before the night ended, he wouldn't have a chance to smile much less brag. He was arrogant with a pig's brain. If he had a brain that truly worked, he would have noticed by now that he was being lured into a fatal trap.
The motive was also simple; Zhang Jiren and Tang Moyu were planning to make the Zhang family pay! Feng Tianyi smiled in ridicule as they watched the scene in front of them. This time, Zhang Liang would have to face reality. In this world, one couldn't hide despicable things forever. Sooner or later, everyone would know what kind of people they really were.
By parading himself in public like this, grabbing the credit and hard work from Zhang Jiren, he only put himself at the center of attention. If he had known what was waiting for him after ascending to his position, the couple doubted he could still be this arrogant and boastful.
"It won't be long now," Feng Tianyi told his wife who was eating her dessert in boredom.
If she wasn't curious as to how the Zhang family would end, she wouldn't waste her time being here. She would have been on their massive bed, curled up next to her husband while he tried to finish some of the work he'd taken home with him.
"They sure are taking their sweet time," she commented, eyeing Zhang Xianzhe and his son who were talking to other guests merrily.
The highlight of the event started. Tang Moyu raised a slender brow as Zhang Liang explained the latest project the Zhang Corps was working on. The project was what her twin brother worked on before he resigned from his position as the CEO. Tang Moyu would never believe that this project that was presented meticulously down to the last detail was Zhang Liang's work.
"Your brother is too generous to Zhang Liang," she heard Feng Tianyi say. "He deliberately gave him the best project to uplift not only himself but the Zhang family, not knowing your brother's plan to destroy them while in the spotlight. No wonder people called him the Second Devil."
Tang Moyu understood what he meant. Truly, false hope was worse than despair. It was more impactful than mere threats. Her twin brother lifted Zhang Liang up only for him to crash down later. If Zhang Jiren wasn't her twin brother and was truly a Zhang, the empress thought that he would be a formidable opponent.
She was lucky that the Zhang family hadn't produced a person as scheming and opportunist as her and Zhang Jiren. She was sure that exacting revenge wouldn't be easy for them if the Zhang family had.
Looking at Zhang Xianzhe, Tang Moyu wondered what kind of relationship he had with their birth mother. His expression on the recording told her that he was familiar with Yan Qiuyu. There was no way they were strangers to each other with the way he looked at her.
Thinking about it, didn't her twin brother say that Zhang Xianzhe called Yan Qiuyu's name in his drunken state? Zhang Wuying sent people to kill Yan Qiuyu but why did he stop it and colluded with Elder Tang instead? Tang Moyu couldn't understand.
Just as the project launching had finished, an old amateur recording suddenly started playing on the wide screen, getting everyone's attention. It could be said that none of the guests had missed witnessing and seeing it as they were all focused on the previous presentation.
Zhang Xianzhe and Zhang Liang's back were to the screen so they had no idea what was happening. It wasn't until Zhang Liang heard laughing voices from the speakers did he look around and looked confusedly on the screen, while the Old Zhang kept his smile plastered on his face as he looked at their esteemed guests.
The audio of the video was quite bad and its quality was subpar, but it was clear enough for people to recognize what was happening. The seemingly normal hangout of three young people turned into horror when the camera caught a woman slumped on the ground with a bundle in her arms which people assumed was her child.
Zhang Xianzhe frowned as the expressions of their guests changed from confusion into horror. He turned his attention to the big screen and noticed that something else was playing on it. It was a very familiar scene for Zhang Xianzhe, something that still haunted him till this day.
He even saw the woman whom he hadn't been able to forget after decades since her death. The scene showed his younger self, taking the young infant from her arms as she begged not for herself but for her child.
Her eyes looked at him as if she could see right through his soul. Tang Moyu's face was too striking, reminding him of the person he'd been trying to forget for a long time.
"Turn that off! Turn that off!" he yelled at the top of his lungs but it was too late. Everyone had witnessed the end of the woman on the video— how Elder Tang killed her himself.
The door to the banquet hall where the event was being held was pushed open. A team of law enforcement strolled in pushing their way up to the stage to apprehend Zhang Xianzhe. The crowd made way and didn't dare get involved.
"You are under arrest for being accomplice to the murder of Miss Yan Qiuyu. Please come with us."
Zhang Xianzhe couldn't say anything to refute as they handcuffed his wrists and dragged him away in front of their guests.
