Era of Players: Death God

Chapter 78: Lilith Vs Gareth Emery

In the depths of the forest, Lilith came to a sudden halt. A strange sensation coursed through her, alerting her to the presence of another.

"Reveal yourself," she spoke with her usual emotionless tone. From behind the dense foliage, a man emerged. It was Gareth Emery, the top-ranked student from Class A and third in the overall rankings.

"Greetings, Lilith. I am Gareth Emery," he introduced himself.

Lilith remained silent, studying the man before her. A potential prey had stumbled into her path.

"I didn't mean to startle you. I simply had a hunch," Gareth explained, expressing his intention not to provoke Lilith. He knew he couldn't win against her and didn't want to take any unnecessary risks. If Lilith held the role of the Villain, she would undoubtedly seize his points. Something Gareth wanted to avoid at all costs.

Just as Gareth was preparing to depart, Lilith finally spoke up.

"Where do you think you're going?" she questioned. Gareth's body trembled as he cursed his luck.

"Alright, I propose a challenge. If you win, I will hand over half of my points. And before you suggest taking it all, I am aware of your capabilities. But before you can do so, I will forfeit, preventing you from claiming them," Gareth declared, his eyes filled with determination.

"I see. Very well, I accept your proposal,"

Lilith replied, realizing it was in her best interest to agree. Otherwise, Gareth would follow through with his words.

Gareth Emery, a player from Class A, possessed a unique class: Lightning Mage.

"Thank you," Gareth breathed a sigh of relief, grateful that the White Witch was not an unreasonable person.

Lilith decided to only use the Wind and Flame spell not unsheathing her sword.

The air crackled with electricity as Gareth's lightning bolt narrowly missed Lilith, who swiftly evaded the attack.

''Wind become a sharp knife, Wind Blade!"

In response, Lilith unleashed a powerful wind blade towards Gareth. The blade sliced through the air, aimed directly at him.

But to Lilith's surprise, Gareth disappeared in a flash of lightning just as the wind blade was about to strike. He had used his lightning magic to teleport, leaving Lilith's attack to slice through a small tree, splitting it in two.

Bang!

Lilith narrowed her eyes, realizing that Gareth's lightning magic gave him an advantage in speed and mobility. She needed to strategize carefully if she wanted to defeat him. With her sword still sheathed, Lilith focused her energy on combining wind and Fire, she called this spell: Ignis Hurricane,

''Come flame wind, Whirlwind of flames, Ignis Hurricane!"

As she chanted an incantation, a swirling vortex of wind and flames formed around her. The intense heat mixed with the powerful gusts of wind created a formidable combination. Sensing the danger, Gareth reappeared a few meters away, his eyes widening at the sight of Lilith's spell.

Without hesitation, Lilith unleashed the combined attack, sending a raging tornado of fire and wind towards Gareth. The flames danced around the powerful gusts, creating a devastating force that threatened to engulf him.

Gareth, realizing the gravity of the situation, tapped into his lightning magic once again.

''Lightning Barrier!"

Bolts of electricity crackled around him as he summoned a protective barrier of lightning.

Tchi~ Tchi~

The barrier sizzled and crackled, absorbing the impact of Lilith's fiery tornado.

The clash of elements filled the forest with a cacophony of sound and light. The intense heat and electricity sent shockwaves through the air, causing the trees to sway and the ground to tremble.

Lilith, determined to overpower Gareth, intensified her spell, pouring more mana energy into the raging tornado. The flames grew hotter, and the winds grew stronger, threatening to break through Gareth's barrier. Sweat dripped down her brow as she exerted every ounce of her magical prowess.

Gareth gritted his teeth, feeling the strain on his barrier. He knew he couldn't hold on for much longer. With a surge of determination, he channeled more of his mana energy into reinforcing his defense, desperately trying to withstand Lilith's powerful assault.

The battle between wind and lightning, flame and barrier, raged on. The forest trembled under the sheer force of their clash.

Finally, Gareth managed to swiftly dodged Lilith's spell, he retaliated by unleashing a barrage of lightning bolts towards her. The bolts crackled through the air, aiming to strike their target with precision. However, Lilith was prepared.

With a swift motion, Lilith conjured a powerful Wind spell known as Cyclone Wall.

''Whirl, Whirlwind of Wind, Cyclone Wall!"

A swirling vortex of wind formed in front of her, creating a protective barrier. The gusts within the cyclone were strong enough to deflect the incoming lightning bolts, causing them to scatter harmlessly in different directions.

The cyclone wall whirled and spun, acting as a shield against Gareth's relentless assault. The lightning bolts crashed into the turbulent winds, dissipating their energy. Lilith remained focused, channeling her magic to maintain the strength of the cyclone.

Gareth, realizing that his lightning attacks were ineffective against Lilith's defensive spell, paused for a moment to reassess his strategy. He knew that he needed to find a way to break through her defenses if he wanted to have any chance of winning this challenge.

With a determined expression, Gareth summoned another surge of lightning magic. This time, instead of launching a direct attack, he used his lightning to enhance his own speed and agility. Electricity crackled around his body as he moved with lightning-fast reflexes, darting and weaving through the forest with unparalleled swiftness.

Lilith's eyes narrowed as she tracked Gareth's movements, her cyclone wall following his every step. She knew that she couldn't let him get too close, as his lightning-enhanced strikes would be difficult to defend against. She focused her magic, ready to counter any move he made.

Gareth, utilizing his lightning-infused speed, circled around Lilith, searching for an opening in her defenses. He knew that he needed to find a weak point to exploit if he wanted to turn the tides in his favor. With each step, he assessed her movements, looking for any signs of vulnerability.

Suddenly, Gareth launched himself into the air, soaring above the cyclone wall with a burst of lightning-enhanced power. Lilith's eyes widened in surprise, but she quickly reacted.

''Wind com, Gust break through, Air Impact!"

She summoned a powerful gust of wind, attempting to knock Gareth off course and bring him back down to the ground.

The wind buffeted Gareth, threatening to throw him off balance. However, he used his lightning magic to ground himself, stabilizing his flight. With a determined glare, he continued his ascent, aiming to strike from above.

Lilith, realizing that her wind alone wouldn't be enough to stop Gareth, combined her wind magic with flames. She unleashed a scorching pillar of fire towards him, hoping to engulf him in its searing heat. The flames danced and crackled, reaching towards Gareth with fierce intensity.

But Gareth was prepared. With a lightning-infused leap, he evaded the flames, soaring higher into the air. He maneuvered with precision, avoiding Lilith's attacks while closing in on his target.

The battle between Lilith and Gareth escalated to new heights as they utilized various spells to their fullest extent.

''Time to put this experiment to the end.''

Lilith decided to end the fight, she chanted the next incantation.

''Wind prevent, visit of silence, Mute!"

As Lilith unleashed her Mute spell, the area within a 15-meter radius fell into silence. Gareth's eyes widened in realization that his ability to cast spells had been weakened. The crackling of his lightning magic diminished, leaving him momentarily vulnerable.

Sensing an opportunity, Lilith seized the moment to deliver her final strike.

She tapped into Gareth's weakened lightning magic, channeling it alongside her own wind element. The two forces intertwined, creating a powerful fusion.

''Wind comes, Lightning pierce through, Thunderous halberd, Lightning Javelin!"

With a resounding incantation, Lilith summoned a Wind-Lightning spell known as Lightning Javelin. The air crackled with electricity as a spear made of pure Wind-Lightning materialized in her hand. With a swift motion, she hurled the Lightning Javelin towards Gareth before he could react.

Swoosh! Tchi! Tchi!

Realizing the impending danger, Gareth hastily conjured a small lightning shield in an attempt to reduce the impact of the Lightning Javelin. However, it was not enough to fully protect him. The Wind-Lightning spear tore through his defense, striking him with tremendous force.

Boom!

Gareth's body was sent flying through the air, crashing into a nearby tree with a bone-crushing impact.

Bang! Crack!

The tree splintered under the force of the collision,

''Gofuh!

While Gareth coughed up blood, his strength waning. The battle was over, and he had been defeated.

Lilith stood victorious, her chest heaving with exertion. She approached Gareth, her expression was unreadable as always.

''My points.'' She demanded.

Gareth, accepting his defeat nodded, acknowledging her victory. The forest fell into a calm stillness, the echoes of their battle fading away.

"Allow me a brief respite," he requested, and Lilith nodded without a word, patiently standing by a towering oak.

After a quarter of an hour had passed, Gareth had regained his strength and was ready to continue. Without hesitation, he transferred half of his points, propelling Lilith back into the top position with a comfortable lead of 20 points over Noah, who now had a total of 260 points.

Noah's momentary triumph was short-lived as he swiftly lost his position within the hour.
