Chapter 28
C28 – A Green Snake with a Story
Green couldn’t resist nudging the daydreaming Lee Tian with its tail and asked, “Big brother, are you okay?”
Startled, Lee Tian snapped out of his reverie and fixed a glare on Green. “When did you get here?”
“I’ve been right next to you for quite a while, big brother!”
Green let out a sigh, giving Lee Tian a meaningful look. “Big brother, you’ve fallen for that human girl, haven’t you?”
Lee Tian’s cheeks flushed with a mix of surprise and embarrassment as he reluctantly nodded.
Green sighed once more, “Big brother, you’re longing to transform into a human and win her love, aren’t you?”
Lee Tian’s surprise deepened. How could this snake understand so much?
“How did you know?” he inquired of Green.
Green flicked its tongue slowly, gazing into the distance with the wisdom of one who has seen much. “Because I’m a snake with experience. I, too, am deeply in love with a human girl. My diligent cultivation to become human is driven by the hope of one day living alongside her.”
It then shared with Lee Tian the story of how, on one snowy night, it had mistakenly wandered into Human Race territory and ended up frozen solid. By chance, a compassionate girl had found it, warming it with her body heat and saving it from the ice.
That act of kindness was what made Green fall in love with the benevolent human girl.
“Big brother, that’s why I understand your desire to become human and chase after the human girl’s heart,” Green said earnestly.
But then, its expression darkened as it warned, “Big brother, humans can be cruel. Why did you so carelessly eat what they gave you? I’ve heard that humans have an ant poison specifically designed to exterminate the Ant Clan!”
“I never realized you had such a wealth of stories! It’s no wonder you understand humans so well,” Lee Tian remarked.
With a cold snort, Lee Tian added, “If I die, so be it. I’d rather die than live my life as just an ordinary beast.”
Yet, no sooner had he spoken these words than he felt a sudden discomfort in his stomach, quickly followed by a searing pain as if his insides were ablaze!
He writhed on the ground, contorting in agony—it was a pitiful sight to behold.
Seeing Lee Tian’s condition, Green immediately panicked. “Big brother, what’s happened to you?”
Lee Tian was foaming at the mouth, looking as though he’d been poisoned.
Green’s panic intensified; he was completely at a loss and blurted out, “I knew it! Those humans aren’t as benevolent as they seem. They must have given you ant poison!”
“This is it, big brother. You’re going to die. What am I going to do?”
Green’s anxiety was so acute that he turned pale, but he was clueless about how to help, and could only watch Lee Tian suffer.
However, after a few rolls on the ground, Lee Tian seemed to ease up a bit and quieted down.
Yet, he still felt a terrible discomfort in his stomach. Initially, it felt like a searing burn, but now it was as if he had swallowed a huge chunk of ice, leaving a chilling sensation that was extremely unsettling.
“Big brother, could the medicine the humans gave you actually be Ant Medicine?” Green asked, worried.
Lee Tian shook his head and replied, “I don’t think it was Ant Medicine. When they administered it, they referred to it as the ‘Spirit Cultivating Pill.'”
“Spirit Cultivating Pill!” Green exclaimed in shock, acting as though he recognized the term.
In truth, he had no idea what it was.
“What is that? Is it toxic?” Green regained his composure, staring blankly at Lee Tian.
