Demon King Ascension System

Chapter 135

135 The Group’s Decision (2)

“I will leave you and Robus alone while I will travel the main continent on my own,” Vera spoke after thinking long and hard about it.

“I believe the humanoid demons’ case is more complicated than it seems, and only looking at one of their bases wouldn’t be enough to figure this out.”

“You and Robus should focus on learning how to survive and get stronger in the main continent while I would spend that time trying to figure out what had actually happened here.”

‘But what was most important is that you learn more about the humanoid demons and demons in general.’ Vera kept this thought to herself, not voicing it out.

She had been thinking quite a lot about it. And she knew that although Blake had a level of intelligence that far surpassed the humanoid demons in the first realm and he would even be able to study their behavior as if studying an animal’s, Vera knew that there must be some things that he hadn’t grasped yet about how the demon society worked in general.

She had lived together with him for more than a whole month now. And seeing how he interacts with her in general, it was a dead giveaway that Blake didn’t have the same upbringing as the demons, even with the ones that came from the deeper realms and had a high level of intelligence ever since they were born.

Vera didn’t know whether Blake would be able to survive in the demon realm with his current mindset and the upbringing that he had. But she certainly wouldn’t bet much on it.

And although she could just keep the status quo and accompany Blake wherever he goes, it wouldn’t turn out well in the future where even her presence couldn’t give him absolute security.

She would probably be able to defeat any demons in the first realm that decided to antagonize her.

.....

Be it using pure raw strength or using her knowledge of runes and tricks if the said demon had a stronger raw strength compared to her body that had been partially sealed so that she could exist in the first realm.

She would be able to keep Blake safe from anything if she wanted to.

However, knowing what she had in mind from day 1 she decided to take him in, she knew that she wouldn’t be able to do that for long.

Not only did she want to have a strong partner that she could rely on or even stronger than even herself, which was possible for Blake who had done things that she deemed unthinkable or impossible, but she also couldn’t keep him safe with her own powers for so long.

In fact, she could only do that while they were still in the first demon realm.

When they reached the second demon realm, things wouldn’t be as simple as roaming the lands to kill demons and eat their souls.

The essence of what they would be doing was still the same, as demons, they wanted to eat more souls, get stronger, and eventually evolve and get to the next demon realm. But with intelligence also came complications that were as complex as the level of intelligence itself.

And with all the cunning minds existing in the second demon realm, even Vera doubts that she could keep on babysitting Blake forever and telling him everything he needed to do.

Sooner or later, he would need to be able to learn how to initially survive in the demon realm, and later, he would learn how to not only survive but also thrive in his own way.

Going by that route, Vera would only be one step closer to reaching her own goal.

While on the other hand, letting Blake rely on her all the time would only slow down his growth, possibly even stunting it, and in the end ruined one of her biggest chances to reach her goal faster and easier.

Moreover, the sooner she taught Blake about the demons, the better it is for him as the danger of the demon realm would only increase even more the deeper they go.

In a world where others needed to kill and eat each other to grow stronger, it wouldn’t be a possibility that Blake would be the one who had his soul eaten instead of the other way around.

And hence why, in the end, she decided to let Blake go on his own, without her supervision.

But of course, with the irregular situation with the humanoid demons in the first demon realm, Vera didn’t just let Blake be completely defenseless.

What she wanted was his growth, not killing him.

So Vera took out another pendant from her dimensional bag, similar to the one that Robus wore, but it had a different inscription written on it.

“If you were ever caught in a life or death situation, pour your nether into this pendant.”

“I had drawn a space elemental spell on it and if you activate it, it will teleport you about 3 kilometers away from your last location.”

“But it couldn’t be used consecutively, it needed to gather enough nether from the environment to be able to teleport you again.”

“However, if you really need to use it, you can inject your own nether, and use the same amount of nether if you were to activate the second realm spells.”

Vera then pointed to Blake’s bracelet next.

“If you ever found someone you couldn’t defeat, make sure to run, and also use the pendant. But when you’ve done all that and you are still in danger, use the bracelet.”

“You know what it’ll do. I’ll fly as fast as possible to your location, so survive as best as you can until I arrive.”

“You understand Blake?”

“Blake?”

Vera called Blake’s name several more times, but she still didn’t get an answer from the humanoid demon boy.

“Blake!” She finally half-shouted while shaking Blake’s shoulders before finally getting an answer.

“Ah... Yes... ? You... You will leave me alone, Vera?” Be it because of the intense shaking that he felt or something else, Blake stuttered.

“Yes, Blake. You and Robus needed the experience so that you two could truly be strong in the future.”

“I... I understand... For... For how long would I not be with you?” Blake asked with his eyes seemingly looking far into the distance or rather imagining something in his mind.

“It depends, the faster you evolve, the faster we will meet again as we would be descending down the realm together.”

“So we will only meet again if I had evolved?” This time, Blake asked clearly without any stutter and while looking into Vera’s eyes.

“Yes,” Vera replied shortly.

“Okay.” Blake also gave a short answer, complemented with a rigid nod.

Vera notices something unusual with Blake’s demeanor, but knowing that whatever it was, she needed to do it, she chose to ignore it.

“Remember about the bracelet and the pendant, okay?”

“Yes,” Blake replied once again.

Vera then walked closer before patting and rubbing Blake’s head for a while.

“Do you still want to ask me about anything?”

Seeing that he didn’t say anything else and just kept staring at her, Vera then took a step back, waved the duo goodbye before spreading her wings, and flew away.

Vera flew so high into the sky that Blake and Robus could only see a tiny dot for a while before that dot completely disappeared into the red sky.

But even after the dot disappeared, Blake kept his eyes locked on the last direction he saw that dot flew in before it disappeared.

He did not move or say anything, he just stood there and stared with his eyes both unblinking and unmoving.
